SHSU Head Coach - Football
I thought this was a Lamar board? ::)
The SLC is a football conference first. If you want to play the game, you got to know the game. -
SHSU Head Coach - Football
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
After MacIntyre pulled out and ended up in California, the top three candidates were Dickey, Fritz and Phillips. Fritz emerged victorious, presumably based on the quotes by the AD - due to his defensive and special teams background. SHSU has never had to really worry about offense... [Hidden Content] -
LU football to add former West Brook, Ozen stars
D1-AA at the football level. D1 every other sport
You guys will learn eventually... DIVISION I in ALL SPORTS. If you played anything besides Division I in football, you wouldn't be eligible for the DIVISION I NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP which will be played between Montana and Villanova at the end of this week. There's a reason it is called Division I football. One of the biggest, to prevent people from calling our basketball and baseball teams 'I-AA' or 'Div 2' as has been the case in recruiting battles. We are Division I. Get used to it...though if you'd prefer, I'll call all your sports Division II, if that's what you want to think you are. -
LU is gonna have 3 former D1 players on Defense! Chavis, the LB from Iowa and Garrett DB from Tulane.
And even better - 11 current Div I players when Lamar lines up the appropriate amount of players on the defensive side of the ball this September! Who knows, if UNLV's poor math rubs off on the players, coaches...we may see 12 at times, but the official will throw laundry on those. -
2010 Lamar Foe USA Announces First Slate
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Overall, much tougher than the Junior College schedule played this year.
That was an exhibition schedule. Lamar could have done the same thing, but turned down one, if not two interested parties. In 2011, question their schedule if it stinks. That's their first year, that's their comparison to Lamar's 2010. South Alabama is doing this an unusual way, but you can't complain. They are going to be REAL competitive from the start with how they will have three, if not four classes in the fold by 2011. -
2010 Lamar Foe USA Announces First Slate
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The reasoning is that USA is not a classified program in 2010. You guys are. From my understanding, playing USA does not count as a Div I game (for playoff purposes), so with that being said, they are not going to get too many FCS teams interested in them. In fact, Lamar is already not in consideration for the playoffs in year one due to the inability to get seven Div I wins, which is pretty much a pre-req to get in. USA is doing this so they do not have to start APR calculations and so they can build up a full roster when they first hit the field in 2011. -
Each player is verbally committed to LU. Verbal commitments are non-binding until a letter is signed and faxed to the school. NCAA rules prohibit coaches from talking about recruits until a letter is signed and faxed.
Does Bob West know this...? I recall him saying that Ray Woodard told him about one of your QBs before they signed. Come on Bob, the media is able to report this stuff because coaches are willing, but you can't let them know you actually got it from the coach! -

University of New Orleans to drop to Division III in 2010.
The Sun Belt has 13 schools, 10 with football, so I doubt they'll be adding another football school. Adding Texas State would further spread out the conference that stretches from Denver to Miami, and they don't make much TV money. I believe Denver is trying to join another conference, so maybe if that happens the Sun Belt will add a couple of teams.
If DU leaves soon, perhaps the ideal would be to add TXST as a travel partner with NT. Currently DU is NT's travel partner. ULL and ULM could be travel partners under the new alignment for all sports. -
Give me a break you really want to say waiting on Lamar baseball, 3 straight regional appearances 02, 03, 04. Making the regional championship in 2003. Haven't won less than 34 games since 1999. Sam has been good in SLC for 3 years, how many regional wins in that time? Pick on LU hoops not baseball.
I was stretching a little bit, but Lamar baseball has done nothing significant in the last few years while both TXST and SHSU have helped raise the national profile of the league with OOC wins. TXST even got the league an at-large, how about that? Watch out Cards! Even Southeastern La. is rapidly improving. And there's no divisions in baseball, so no taking advantage of the weaker division (as is the case when SFA and/or Lamar go out 'east')... As far as 34+ wins - hard to not get 34 wins when you have Lamar's schedule. :: insert Gilliigan complaining that no one schedules them despite and try to ignore the fact that every other TX school in the SLC (with lights) seems to get a pretty solid OOC slate :: As far as SHSU wins in the postseason, SHSU went to the regional finals in 2007 after eliminating both Southern Miss and Troy...the last two years have yielded 0 wins, but some near misses. Though not the NCAAs, going 12-0 in the SLC tourney the last three years has been nice! Some teams know how to win when it matters most. In basketball, it's putting yourself in position for March. In baseball, the Kats have been in great position come May to make a run.
This ranking is thanks to Lamar.
Thanks to Lamar? ??? The quote mentions SHSU and TXST directly and says other teams must rise. We've been waiting on Lamar baseball for awhile. Not as long as Lamar men's basketball...

From Yahoo/Rivals...time to make it happen!
14. Southland. The SLC took a step forward last season with Texas State and Sam Houston State making a regional. Other teams, though, must rise to the occasion.
[Hidden Content]

SHSU Head Coach - Football
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Favorite in SHSU land from the fans seems to be MacIntyre (former Parcells assistant, Ga Tech grad, NFCA Asst Coach of the Year)... The list... Kansas wide receivers coach David Beaty New Mexico offensive coordinator and former North Texas head coach Darrell Dickey Central Missouri head coach Willie Fritz University of Alabama-Birmingham offensive coordinator and former Houston head coach Kim Helton Duke defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre, Miami secondary coach Wesley McGriff Texas A&M-Commerce head coach and former Baylor, Kentucky head coach Guy Morriss University of Houston co-offensive coordinator Jason Phillips Klein Oak High School head coach Dave Smith former A&M Consolidated and Killeen Harker Heights head coach Ross Rogers Abilene Christian University head coach Chris Thomsen Washington Redskins tight ends coach Scott Wachenheim ] -
Not sure what this is about, but did not see a thread here. One of our KatFans posted that "Lamar University will start charging 2% of the total payment or $3, whichever is higher, on payments to student's University account." [Hidden Content]
Terror knows i'm right which is why is so fast to try to shoot the ladies down. A LU with top 25 votes will be Terror's worse nightmare.
Not shooting your women's team down. Tidwell has done a masterful job in the resurgence of your program. Outside of your VB coach, he deserves the most praise of any coaches in your athletic department. It is not too long ago that your WBB program was a lot like the previous incarnation of your football team - as in down in the dumps. My remark was more about ULM than anything and your lack of knowledge of WBB - particularly in this case, ULM's "level". The top SLC teams should be able to beat middle to low-middle SBC teams. Lamar is a top SLC team IMO. ULM is at the bottom of the SBC's middle. Now the TXST loss to TSU in women's hoops is just bad for the league.
Still, blowing out a "middle of the pack team AT BEST," is pretty impressive, especially on the road. Don't be jealous cause our womens bball team owns Sam Houston's.
I am not jealous of your WBB program. I know where SHSU's stands...my goal was just to correct UNLV on his typical faulty information regarding sport(s) he does not adequately follow. I've seen more SLC WBB games this season than UNLV has in his life, I figure.
This team has gotten better than anything I imagined. ULM is not great, but they are a top Sunbelt team.
Top SBC team? ??? Did not realize LU played Denver, UALR, Middle Tennessee or Western Kentucky...those were the top four teams last year and WILL be the top four teams this year at the end of the season. ULM is a middle of the pack team AT BEST! Typical Lamar standards, eh UNLV? ;D

According to CBB... SLC guys in the bottom 50 of the top 100... 52. Dallas Gallant (SHSU) 57. Eric Harrington (Lamar) 96. Ryan Hutson (UTSA) [Hidden Content]

Lamar's First Football Scheduling Dillema
TexasTerror replied to TexasTerror's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I bet LU will always have more than 2,200 at it's football games, unlike SHSH.
A new coaching regime and exciting squad will do wonders for a program... Look for SHSU to find a middle ground between a well-known coach (Larry Coker, UTSA) and someone who was not on many's radar at the Div I level prior to his hire (Ray Woodard). Probably an FBS assistant coach or a seasoned veteran of HS or FCS. -
TT can sleep easy now: [Hidden Content]
Yep - got taken care of about two weeks ago, I believe. Not as big a debacle as some of the others, because the teams were just waiting to finalize the contract. Lamar was probably still in the wrong for announcing their schedule without a contract that was finalized (or at least that's the way it seems - since Ga State announced their schedule after Lamar without the game listed). Lamar is learning the football ropes... -
They should have a strong recruiting class also, the question is, how much longer until Bobby Marlin gets a job at a CUSA school, and Sam returns to NAIA?
Unless SHSU does something special, I honestly feel that Marlin's window has passed if you will. Marlin is the big fish in Huntsville and while he probably would prefer being elsewhere, he's combed himself a sturdy niche. Well respected in coaching circles, constant top three placements in the SLC, growing amounts of 20 win seasons (four in last five years), getting his kids to earn academic recognition yearly, etc. If anything, I see Marlin seeing himself like his mentor, Mike Vining at ULM. Vining, if you recall went 383-291 over 21 years in Monroe for a .568 winning percentage. Marlin entered the year with a .619 winning percentage (200-123) since coming to SHSU in 1999.
-
4th thing to expect - SHSU averaging less than 2000 per game.
5th thing to expect - the numbers to increase when school is back in session with SHSU representing the only SLC school that draws 10% of their student body to basketball games in the league. ;D
-
Two things that are expected - Lamar to have the #1 recruiting class in hoops, NWST in football. ;D I'm excited about Bob Marlin's class at SHSU. It seems to be his best one in a few years and with the Kats losing Mitchell, Almond and Brown - very crucial we continue to hold our place in the top three of the league by putting in strong players that can fill the hole.

SHSU Head Coach - Football
Terror, This is an old buddy from SHSU... the big guy from CKI. Hope your doing well. What are our chances of landing Willie Fritz that was at Blinn at one time? Wish they'd look at him, he's a good coach and knowns how to win. Back to back national championships at Blinn.94, 95 if I am not mistaken.
Doing as well as I can after what's happened... Fritz will apply and will be in the mix. He was on the list last time as well.
