1. Every team from the area will be sporting #12 stickers on their helmets starting this Friday.  I think that is a fairly unified gesture, albeit not huge or elaborate.
 2.
I was shocked of how small the scoreboard was. Lumberton is 4a school with a youth football size scoreboard. I was excited that lumberton was getting a new digital scoreboard, got to the game and could not believe what i was looking at.
I was less than impressed myself.  But, to have a jumbotron like BISD and Lamar just put in, you got to have a million bucks.  Anyone got a spare million?  I don't.
 3.
This should have stayed in house.......PERIOD!
Tell that to whomever leaked it to the PA News.
 4.
When I read the reply by Lack, the first thing that jumped out at me was this: "The way the situation actually happened was Ben Jones, Austin Dial, and I  were all talking on the sideline during practice about Dionte Forney. What was said was that we thought it was wrong for the coaches to use Carson (Raines) and toss him to the sideline when they didn’t need him anymore." First, Lack, and the other players disrespected the Coaches by stating that the coaches just used Raines and tossed him to the side. The coaches didn't use Raines and toss him to the sideline when they didn't need him anymore.  Raines only played because the starter was injured.  If Forney had not been injured he might have still been 2nd string, or on the JV.  In College, and in the Pros, when the starter goes down, the backup knows that when the starter is healthy and cleared to play, that the starter will be re-inserted into the starting lineup.  They are not just using the backup and tossing them to the side, they know their role.  They might be called upon again, who knows.  That's how it works on every team.  The samething happened in the UT vs Texas Tech game.  Tech switched out QBs, and it's up to the coach to make that decision. Raider81, I have to disagree with you regarding Forney going to the coach.  I believe it was the right thing to do because, there was an issue, and this type of issue needed to be addressed.  The same as in the movie Remember the Titans.  As a player, if you notice an issue, especially dissention among several players, then you should bring it to the attention of the head coach.  Lack did the wrong thing by bringing his dad into the issue.  It should have been kept in house and dealt with among the team, which is what Coach Neuman tried to do.  He called a meeting among the players that complained so that they could bridge the gap. I played football in High School and if I had an issue and told the coach what my dad said, or his opinion, what Coach Neuman said would be considered a compliment compared to what the coach probably would have told me, or he would have said the exact same thing that Lack alleged that Neuman said to him.  Kids and parents don't run the team.  This isn't Pop Warner.  It's High School football.  If you have an issue, you keep it in house, and resolve it among the team.  Ok, ok, Let's get back to football.  I hope that Nederland uses this as a rallying point.  It would be great.
Dionte didn't tattle to the coach because the coach was being disrespected.  He tattled because he felt was being disrespected.  He didn't like hearing that other players liked the back up more than him.  Big difference.  I stand my ground.  It would have ended had Neuman handled it appropriately.  And, if you'll read Lack's letter a little closer, you'll notice that Mr. Lack was not involved in the meeting.  He was mentioned because his son told another player that he and his dad talk about the games afterward ... something I'm sure most dads and players do.  Neuman reacted badly and handled the whole thing badly from start to finish.   And while everyone in the area is stunned and saddened by the passing of Reggie Garrett, it has little to do with issues that face other teams, such as this one.  No coach is going to say ... ok, this issue with my teams is not important because a player from another team died and let it go.  He's going to address it.  Further, the issue isn't really about who will be QB at Nederland.  It's about how the situation was handled and the fall out.  It is unfortunate it became public, but it did.  Ergo, this thread to discuss it.
 5. I haven't seen any mention of Lumberton.  Anyone know if the L-Train has stepped up?
 6. Who knows how the original story got to the PA News, but it was the PA News that called the kid out by name.  Good for the kid for having the balls to tell his side of the story.  It sure puts a new light on the situation.  Yes, the coach runs the team but, coaches are not infallible.  I think if it hadn't gotten to the point of the Neuman telling the kid and his father where to stick their opinion in the manner he did (I don't believe his denial one iota), then the kid would probably still be at Nederland.  There is a right way and a wrong way to handle things.  Dionte was wrong for tattling to the coach.  The coach was wrong for making it an issue and for handling Lack the way he did.  What he should have done is told Dionte to stop being a whiney baby and get back on the field and do his job.  IMO.
 7. This is Andrew Lack's response in a letter to the editor at the PA News: [Hidden Content]
 8. From past experience, the BE does not appreciate the posting of links from its stories in other forums, etc.  Don't be surprised, Mods, if you are contacted by someone from the BE.  Just sayin'. I don't know this family or this young man, but I am heartbroken over the whole situation.  Last night, I watched an interview with the father on one of the local stations.  He said, "The one game I missed is te one where my baby went down."  What that poor man must be going through.

If you mask me, the handi cap seats at the top of the home side bleachers, are the best seats in the house.
No kidding.  Every time I take my niece to a game, I'm constantly asking people to move so she can see, although there isn't supposed to be anyone standing on the fence.
At least ours is original... you know, not the same as 75% of American high schools....
THATS FUNNY....HUMBLE HAS THE SAME EXACT FIGHT SONG.....AND ITS IRONIC THAT YOU BOTH WEAR PORRRPLE!
Nope. Ours was written by our band director in 1957, and lyrics were added in 1959. The only part that can even be construed as copied is the middle of the song, and that's farfetched to say the least. The introduction and conclusion are both completely original, while the main segment has several added parts and a completely different set of dynamics as compared to the song the notes themselves were taken from. There's a whole different bass line, a different instrumental arrangement, a counter-melodic fanfare for the trumpets, and a pronounced percussion part, in addition to various other differences. In other words, there is only one Cherokee.
Not quite, unless the band director sold that song to various western movies as it has been used in several of the earlier ones. My guess is that maybe he wrote your lyrics to the song but that's all. BTW a youtube search turns up another high school WNHS, not sure where they are from but they use the same song in a slightly different variation. Whoops, just found another school from Indiana playing it, song get's around for sure. Another one namesd Moniteau High in Pennsylvania
Okay after a little internet digging I found the original writer of Cherokee, the correct name being Indian Suite: Cherokee was written in about 1938 by Ray Noble. Look it up.
Now that you've named it, I think that it was in my first piano lesson book!

 12.
Good analysis, Mr. Rogers Wonder if Lumberton fans agree?   :D Sun Article
Well, I think outplayed is probably the wrong term.  If that had been the case, BH wouldn't have made any turnovers or that pretty little interception Lumberton caught.  But even as a true fan of the Raiders, I can absolutely recognize the areas our boys need to work on.  To bad growing isn't something they can do at will! Our boys shouldn't have tried running up the middle so often.  There was just a brick wall there. Regardless, the Raiders did what they needed to do when it counted and won the game.
 13. It didn't work until after half-time.  Blew a fuse or something.

Yes, positive reinforcement is a good thing, but so also, is learning to deal with criticism.  I don't think anyone here was too harsh on the boy.  I am sure he felt awful about it and beat himself up about it.  He wouldn't be a team player if he didn't.  But, there comes a time in a boy's life when it's time to put on his big boy drawers and stick his chin out and be a man.  This, in my opinion, is one of those times.  Yeah, he probably did get picked on about it, and would have whether this forum existed or not.  Believe me, kids got picked on for stuff like that back in the old days before the internet and cell phones and in the small town that Lumberton was then, EVERYONE KNEW EVERYTHING.  The kid learned a couple of tough lessons ... not to do what he did, and to live with the consequences of his mistake, which includes people talking about it and teasing him a bit about it.  He also learned that he will be forgiven and that life goes on.  That's life and now is the time in his to learn to deal with stuff like this.  Playing high school football is about far more than the game.  Every experience these kids have is helping to shape who they are and who they will become.  So tough lesson it was, but he needed it to help him grow.  He'll be a better person and a better man for it.
GREAT POST!! The kid made a mistake and paid the price. THE POINT OF THE WHOLE ISSUE IS THAT THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN KEPT IN THE LOCKER ROOM, ON THE FIELD, AND IN THE COACHES OFFICE!!! I DON'T THINK I CAN MAKE MYSELF MUCH MORE CLEAR!!! NOT THAT ANY OF YOU CARE, BUT THE THINGS THAT YOU PEOPLE POST ON HERE...OTHER CHILDREN FEED OFF OF TO PICK ON KIDS!!!! SO FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE A HEART WATCH WHAT YOU SAY ON HERE...AND DON'T BE SPECIFIC ON A CHILD!! ANY CHILD, AT ALL. NOT JUST THIS ONE BOY!! And no for your information...it wasn't necessarily out of line...just made a mistake in thinking you people may actually be considerate and not be specific on players, but I was wrong. Ya'll get so caught up in this like children, yet I have heard that that is all that the little town of Lumberton has become, unfortunately...drama fest. Happily moved away from there many years ago... So ya'll all go along together and sing your little songs...like children :)
I am not heartless nor inconsiderate of this kid or any other kid.  I happen to be raising a 15 year old boy myself.  His father abandoned him and his sister years ago, so I'm doing this pretty much by myself.  I have no teenage angst and drama from either of my children.  They are well-mannered, responsible and respectful so I'd have to say I'm doing a pretty damn good job.  They have no sense of entitlement like so many kids today.  So this idea you continue to float about this having to be left at the school and not discussed by the community, and not unkindly, to me is ludicrous.  It is exactly this sort of molly-coddling that is all too common these days.  What you have here is not people being inconsiderdate, unkind or childish.  It is your continued insistence that we are all wrong and you are the only one who is right that is childish.  This boy needs no defense from you, because no one thinks badly of him at all.  This is all in your mind and you are blowing it completely out of proportion. #40, you screwed up.  No big deal.  It's over and no one thinks ill of you.  You came back and played a great game last night against Barber's Hill.  Good job.  We're ALL proud of you and your team mates.

 20. You've got half the equation, WeedBGone.  The other half is to not assume someone is a "hater" or "racist" because s/he happens to disagree with you.  It really is okay to have different opinions.  I promise. I'm half Polish on my Dad's side.  My great-grandparents emigrated from Poland.  Dad is 100% Polish.  My Mom ... well ... Don't tell anybody but she's not even a native Texan.  Shhhhhh.  We keep that quiet.  She's from California and is part English and part Heinz 57.
