  1. Yes, I was LB.  I thought that was you Raider88. (I figured out who you are.  I put it together while following the posts on the Raider football thread).  Yes, the team was coming together.  Hopefully they'll get a fresh start and kick off the new program in style.

Also, Go Raiders - Give 'em "L"

As you know, I'm not from Lumberton but I live here now and have a relative playing (he's a Sr. this year)

  2. I agree with you bobcatfan (99%).  But never say never on playing A&M or tu.  We played ArizonaState and TexasTech in 88.  There's always a game or two against Div-1A teams on McNeese, SHSU, and Lamar's schedules.  In fact in 89 we beat UTEP (I know its UTEP) and gave ArizonaState a dogfight.  (TexasTech put it on us though with BJ Tolliver and Tyrone Thurman)

  3. Lamar's record the last year of play was 5-5 (10 game year).

One thing I didn't like about the 88 season was that there were 7 away games (4 home ones).

After the first two games at home we were basically on the road the rest of the year ...  Nacodoches, Tempe, Huntsville, HOME, Jonesboro, Monroe, HOME, Lubbock, Lake Charles.

It's kinda hard to get your fans in the stands if you hardly play there.

  4. Yes indeed !!!  That would be a great renovation !

I can't wait to put my butt in a seat there!

I see you tweaked the fieldhouse a couple of times.  That'll be good, it was kinda' small.  We always locked the door on the other side of the foyer (left and infront of the training room) which gave us more room.  I always felt sorry for the visitors though (& maybe a little embarrassed).

  5. I think the min seating capacity qualification for Div-1a (FBS) is 15000. Either actual attendance of games or ticket sales.

So, for Lamar it would truly need to get community support for that level.

I know I'm looking forward to being a family season ticket holder.  In fact, it looks like Lamar is on the right track to get football back and I'm pleased they started the women's soccer program.  I went ahead and joined the Cardinal Club recently and sent in my company matching contribution form.  If you are interested, get out the support and lets help this happen.

  6. Yep, looks like you're right

"Historically, the Southland’s successful football heritage has sustained itself through numerous membership and classification changes.  Originally an NAIA conference, the Southland joined the NCAA College Division in 1968.  The College Division was re-named NCAA Division II in 1973, and the league played two seasons in that class.  The Southland was an NCAA Division I league from 1975-81, before joining the ranks of FCS in 1982, its home ever since. I'm pretty sure I read my original post in one of Lamar's Media Guides  (88 or 89).  I'm gonna look through it again to see how it is worded.
