1. Yep, Sam.  McNeese was a good/clean rivalry but the Sam black rose and subsequent fight after our 2pt loss over there in '88 followed by our "Rose Bowl II" 41-0 beatdown we gave them over here in '89 - it was getting fun.  I think the Greater Houston recruiting wars helped fuel some of that.

basketball as always.

Put these three answers together and the picture comes into focus ... back then there was a basketball only click (Let's be a bigtime basketball only school like those in the NorthEast).
Anyway, Lamar is back and beyond the 80's politics and the southern newspaper.

That said...when I said DI, I meant FBS..I just don't like the whole FBS, FCS crap. Lamar is, for all intent and purposes, still a DI-AA school, not DI (regardless of whether it's called FCS or DI-AA...you know what I mean). I'm still living in the past on that one...ha! And waiting for the day the BCS collapses (it's coming) and we return to the original labels.

I don't like the FBS FCS stuff either and think the DI-AA and DI-A is more descriptive for the football subdivisions for DI.  But I understand why they changed the name.  To many people "out of the know" were getting DI-AA confused with Division II
Many DII schools are better than the average FCS school. Ask UCA...
I asked them this morning and they said that if many are better then most must not be ... cussed me out, then hung up on me.  ;D

5. McNeese has good crowds.  They had 14000 at the game I went to last year.  Coulda, whoulda, shoulda ... series should be 19-13-1.  The 1988 game at their place we lost by 1 point (18-17)- that stings.  A windstorm blew up right before we were going to kickoff and the stadium lights went out.  I remember being glad we weren't going down the field full tilt at the time.

Can't wait for game time!

Any way one of you guys could sneak in and take some pictures of the stadium. I live in Houston now and never get a chance of going back that way. I would love to see how it is looking. I love the webcam but it does not show the stadium, just the fieldhouse.

This segment has some of the stadium at the end....

.... I would like to see how many of those players were transfers from big FBS schools. My point is if Ben comes to LU he will still have a chance to go pro if he works hard.
I should have stated my point as plainly as you just did instead of illistrating with the Bomar reference and with the old LU reference, only one of the four that I know was drafted was Shavers ...  he wouldn't necessarily be "done" if he isn't drafted - he would come out better but not necessarily done.

... May not be the best outcome but maybe it can help with recruiting by mentioning kids will be playing at Hawaii and potentially a Big 12 school or two during their time in Beaumont.
You never know  Hawaii was almost the 4th opening week FCS/FBS casualty last year.  They eked out a T with under 2 minutes in the game to go up by 5 pts against UCA.
9. "LIMITATIONS: NCAA rules state that only 90 Student-Athletes can participate during the assigned preseason
(two-a-days) workouts. This number (90) includes scholarship and non scholarship student-athletes.
Once school starts, the Lamar athletic department has capped the total roster limitation to a total of 100 for
scholarship and non-scholarship student-athletes."

Should be ok for this year.  The only thing I see is next years recruiting class.  There aren't many seniors (if any).  There will be some position battles to stay under the 100.
10. Looks like the rise and run of hill/stands in the south endzone would come up just under the second floor of the athletic complex and then skirt the building on the East and West above it (then above in the middle).  Sort of like the opening in one FIU's stadium endzones.  Might just be like that for future contingency plans.

As far as parking. They have added 5 small gravel parking lots and 1 decent size one next to the rec. And parking is still pretty bad but could be a lot worse had they not built it.

They had also taken in a good part of the old band practice marching field / intramural field behind the old sorority dorms.

Sometime, not too long ago, somebody posted the national FCS attendance averages for all FCS teams.  I remember thinking that LU's 1989 average of 6000 fell around the 50th percentile from last seasons FCS averages.

Good thing the old LU board of regents aren't over those schools!  That's a LOT of schools that they would have to kill football  ;D
13. yeah, for the 1989 season, I remember in an Enterprise Rush Wood article that that season average was 6,000 per home game.
If you look back pre-Div1aa some of the home attendance records were
18,500 1980 vs Baylor
17,600 1979 vs La Tech
17,250 1979 vs West Texas State
17,222 1977 vs SW Louisiana
17,050 1981 vs Southwest Texas
and about 5 others above 16,000
