  1. Looks like it's a Q' mark right now ... but there are always a few diamonds in the rough that don't get the Sr. year Feb signing date nod (for whatever reason - wrong HS position, etc) that turn out to be more than outstanding college players.  I can't wait until 2010 to find out who those were.

  2. USL was the only place we were instructed to wear our helmets while on the sideline in order to keep from getting hit in the head with ice (or anything else).

Also, in '88 we lost at SHSU by 2 points and got in a big fight after the game when a SHSU fan handed Coach Alborn a black rose. (I was at around the 50 talking to SHSU Coach Moot).  That lead to one of only two promotional items I remember from '88 '89 when the '89 game vs SHSU was deemed "Rose Bowl II" and black shirts were made up.  Of course none of this was a fan on fan violence thing and schools and police need to jump on that when it occurs.  There's a line that shouldn't be crossed.  People are taking their families to these games.

  3. The only thing I'd add to that is that it'd be good to pick up a few transfers that weren't already redshirted.  That way they can sit out their transfer year during the '09 year and then finish out their eligibility.  That would add some strength at the start and maybe give a kid another year of college paid for that they wouldn't get if they played their 4 straight wherever that happen to be now.

  4. I'd have to say - just regarding actual plays - would be the '88 Fball game vs Arizona State.  One of the plays that sticks out in my mind is a multi volly'd pass from John Evans to Robert Allen (offense alway gets the glory).  As time ticket off the clock in 3Q the pass was deflected up by Allen, deflected up by AzState DB or LB, then a diving catch by Allen.  The crowd cheered for the possible INT by AzState but then seemed to end up cheering at the play.

Regarding Bball - I'd have to say the slam vs  UTSA this year was sweet.

  5. Yeah - kinda what I was wondering.  You would be "unfairly" pursuading these select Sr's etc to go to Lamar.  Maybe ok if they didn't play.  It's kind of a kin to a couple of UoH games I went to in late 80s.  They would invite local players to the game, left tickets at will call and brought you down on the field a while during the game.  (That was their old Astrodome days)
