There you go.. I knew it was something like that but didn’t want to misquote.

So..again..who would want an AD job where they can’t bring even a single coordinator?  Maybe someone...but I wouldn’t.  In my opinion they have been left in a bind by him leaving this late.

It's as simple as looking at the job as a long term investment and opportunity, the following season he brings in his guys.

Well.. and don’t quote me on all of this.. the way I understand it by how it’s been explained to me is as follows:  There are basically two different types of contract in education.  Administrative (Sup, principals, AD, etc) and I guess teacher contracts.  It may not be described as such.. Usually a buyout will only occur with an administrative contract and usually when the school wants or agrees to part ways with that person.  I would think so they could get the next person.. because the job has to be available in order to hire someone else.  Teacher contracts are usually given yearly in the spring sometime.. March, April, or so.  And I’m told that those contracts are generally signed immediately but not binding.  Meaning they have a certain amount of time to resign without penalty.  Whatever that may be.  But that’s what I meant about whoever replaces Hodges and potential assistants.  It might be too late for said potential assistants to get out of their current contract.  Meaning they wouldn’t be able to leave where they are.  Now just for example sake.. if Birdwell or Barrier were to take it, they’d both go from a teacher contract to an admin contract.  As I’m told, schools are usually more lenient in that case because it’s an advancement.

Even though I personally think it’d be a step backwards for either of them.  Currently anyway.

No way, to be an AD/HC is always a step up if you're an assistant or just a HC...

Caveat: By asking the following question, I not implying that Randy Birdwell will be the next head coach at H-D.  I don't know if he has even applied for the job or is in consideration for it.  I only ask this as he has been mentioned a couple of times as someone that some folks would like to see at H-D.

But, if Randy Birdwell is the next head coach at H-D, which offense will he run....the Wing T that has been run forever at H-D....or the spread that he is helping to implement in Jasper?

Good question, I’d think the spread, especially with Dawson Victorian being the athlete he is, with his build. Kid literally can go 80 yards every play!

  4. I’ll be the 1st to tell you, I gave Hodges a hard time in the past when it was needed, I also praised him when it was deserved. As the keeper of the gates, a 5th generation Bobcat, it’s my responsibility. Stan Hodges was my coach at HD back in the 90’s, I supported and voiced my support of him coming back to HD as HC/AD, I talked with board members, talked with parents and the community, I was there to congratulate Stan as he was hired. Stan Hodges is like a dad to me, heck the man has stayed under my roof a time or two, sons and dads fight sometimes yes, I”ll say this, Coach Hodges done his job with integrity and never wavered in his stance to graduate young men of good character, that are trustworthy. HD was not a dominate team on the field that often under Hodges, but HD was respected as a program and definitely held its own. I will miss you Coach Hodges, we have both spent many years as Bobcats, it’s a special place, one of the best small school coaching jobs in the State. The new HC/AD will inherit a very talented young team, Dawson Victorian the stud Sophomore has D-1 talent and freakish size, has the potential to be all-state as a Sophomore, Junior Landyn Sellers, Junior Landon Victorian and Senior Cayden Weeks will led HD to a playoff push, HD’s O-line will be the best we have had in many years. I definitely voiced my support of two men many years ago, to get the HD job, one was Stan Hodges, the other was my former HD Bobcat teammate Randy Birdwell, I hope Coach Bird gets an opportunity this time around, to become the HC/AD at his Alma Mater. From what I’m hearing there is a long list of candidates, it shouldn’t be a surprise, after all HD folks love their football! Good luck at Odessa Coach, I’m sure I’ll come visit, ride for the brand! HD Nation!

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Bobcat

Congrats EC alum trent wallace and hull-daisetta for huge comeback. Down 17 in 4th qtr from what i heard, nothing but respect.

Yes, in the 3rd period Mumford hit like 5 three pointers in a row, at one point on the game Mumford made like 11 of 14 3 pointers. Heck, the Rockets don’t shoot like that LOL, if not for all the 3’s Mumford hit, HD probably wins by 5-8 points or so. Coach Wallace his a really good basketball and football coach/mind. Coach German has been a major resource as well, probably 30 plus years as a head basketball coach I think. Way to go Bobcats, we are proud of you! HD Nation!

You guys just call each other on your phones.  Your taking up much needed space in the system drive that is needed for more relevant football programs

Figured everyone needed to see where High Island, Sabine Pass and BV were ranked lol. Especially them DV fans lol. 🤣

Ok lol. I’m pretty sure Evadale’s QB will remember Aguirre. He had 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 6 tackles for loss. Honestly I’m not saying Bland is not a really good player. He’s an impressive athlete with great size. He’s just not the player Aguirre is from what I saw. Easily a first team all-district pick at DE for sure though. If Aguirre doesn’t win overall district MVP it’ll be a travesty. No other player in the district has that type of impact on both sides of the ball.

    Amen! Agreed!

All-State?? If a DE from the district gets that honor it would be #5 Ryan Bland, no one has blocked him all year. I don't remember #23 or #8 (whichever number he'll be this week) making plays like #5 Bland did all night in the match up against each other.

    Congrats to DV and HD:

Don’t take my word on it, Jolly Roger and a few other non Bobcat fans have mentioned the HD DE. We did wear alternative numbers against y’all lol.

#1 Watson from Deweyville is hands down the District MVP, the kid has 977 yards in 7 games and has 2 games left against Burkeville and High Island..... and is a huge piece to a defense that has only given up 183 yards a game in district.

Probably be between him and #23 Aguirre. The HD DE may be in line for an All-State honor. There has been a few non HD fans post about #23, kid is a beast. Not sure about Aguirre’s yards at FB, I know he rushed for 250 yards in one game, averages well over 100 a game, he may be over 1,000 now. To be honest I thought #32 was the best DV back, kid is a specimen.

    Hull-Daisetta 70

    High Island 0

Hull coaches finally put in a full game against Burkeville, da Bobcats coaches let da kids finish out a game. Usually da dogs have been called off way early, way to much basic offense this season. Hull may be ready to upset West Sabine in da playoffs, Hull got some studs.

Agreed, a few players that don't get mentioned near enough, are Sellers, Anders, Goodman and Aguirre. Sellers is just an overall athlete as Sophomore QB/SS, Junior Anders leads the team in tackles at ILB and Senior Goodman is quietly having good season on both sides of the line. Senior FB/DE Bryce Aguirre is in the running for District MVP, he is on pace for about 1,000 yards rushing and a double digit sacks. Sophomore TB speedster Broussard and Freshman TB talent Victorian usually get most the talk.

I was there. And I believe HD would have ran away eventually but I do think it could have been tied or very close at half.  Their QB was a pretty good dual threat QB. Fast backs as well.

Agreed, the 3 move in’s were good, especially #4 and #6. BV fought hard for homecoming. The QB was a work horse.

I agree with all this. BV is much better than that score indicates. They shot themselves in the foot all night but they have some talented kids. They played hard til the end too.

Where y’all at the game? I was, the BV coach had a good scheme at 1st, he ran lots of misdirection reverses, end arounds and HB passes. If they would have lined up and just played football, who knows. Although, I will say, it may have been all the trickery helping them early. Not sure I agree with y’all.
