  1. Hargrave is tough and LCM just finds a way. The Pirates are just gonna have to prove it to me. I wouldn't be shocked if they finished above LCM but the Falcons are a well oiled machine and until I see it, I'm not going against the champ. I put Lumberton last because I wasn't impressed with them. Livingston gave that game was away due to unforced errors. I don't see them making those mistakes in year 3 of the rebuild. May not matter anyway with the virus getting worse by the day. UIL is calling for a break this week. A lot of schools in Houston are contemplating home schooling this fall.
  2. Huffman Hargrave LCM Vidor Splendora Livingston Lumberton The top 3 are all capable of being district champs and I don't think anyone is going undefeated or winless this season (if we play, which I don't think is happening). Everyone is going to beat on each other. I don't think there's a team here that head and shoulders above the group. probably looking at tiebreakers, point differentials and coin flips the first week of November to figure out who keeps play and who stays home.
  3. Chains are a symbol of bondage. I went to the Equal Justice Initiative a few years ago in Montgomery, Alabama, and the sculpture of Africans in chains at the memorial had me balling out crying. Good riddance to the chain imagery. If you haven't had a chance to go, it's worth the drive to go see the museum and memorial.
  4. Bravo West Orange-Cove for this move. The world is for those living and coming after us. The school is for the kids and not us old folk who would pull a hamstring just thinking about running a 40. Let's not be beholden to ghosts. The defense will be just fine. This will be a non issue by game 2.
  5. Not a troll. Just miffed by all this HF is now a great program talk. This is almost as absurd as Rick James sitting down telling stories of how he hung out with Charlie Murphy. He's Rick James! Y'all are Hampshire Fanette. Where you get the illusion of grandeur is mystifying, and most importantly, is unwarranted. This whole line of reasoning is idiotic. One year doesn't make a dynasty. RIP Rick James. RIP Charlie Murphy.
  6. HJ saves those accusations for teams that have a shot of winning state, such as Yates (too soon, sorry!) Y'all are not in that class, no matter how many magic mushrooms you pick up in the pasture and ingest. Huffman may lose a district game for the first time in a long time, but it won't be to HF.
  7. That's why we play. Y'all had a good year. Next year is a different year. For HF to take one year and extrapolate that to being the next district champs is preposterous. Y'all need to calm down on the farm. No one is scared of you. Silsbee doesn't owe y'all a game next season because y'all got lucky against them. The only reason y'all were on the Tigers schedule is you were in their district. They only play good to great 5A and 6A teams in preseason. We beat y'all pretty bad a year ago and y'all returned the favor this season. I give you a soft golf clap. It'll be different in district. I just wanted to throw some water on the how great HF is talk. I'm shocked at how many pages has been wasted on this. You're much more likely to be playing a play in game for fourth place than being district champs.
  8. You act like the other teams don't have people coming back and new kids coming up from the lower levels. HF isn't the program yet where people outside of Western Jefferson County say they're a title contender. Glad y'all are improved, but I will enjoy watching you leave the Lions Den with Horns sawed off. By this time next year, you may be happy that the UIL takes 4 teams per district.
  9. The hierarchy of 4A ball in the area is Silsbee, Huffman and HJ, with everyone else scuffing and occasionally having an exceptional season. The longhorns had a good season. It's been a while since they were competitive. But each year is different. HJ and Hargrave are probably going to be the favorites for the district title, as they should. They both have long time coaches and well established programs that keep the level of play steady. And while Silsbee may step back, their team will be good enough to make the regional tournament if they get a good draw. They're still the team to beat in the area in this classification. I wouldn't schedule a playoff spot for HF just yet. Livingston returns most of their team and Splendora will be much better. Shepherd lost 6 seniors but they still have a good center that alters shots (he's every bit of 6-9). Liberty will be improved too. A good team is going to miss the playoffs. The Lions had a good year before with 19 wins and then sleep walked in 2020 and almost missed the playoffs. When a team hasn't made it in a long time and then gets there, there can be a hangover. That's going to be the test, how will your squad respond to it's first taste of success and teams giving your their max effort because you are now considered a good program building win. HJ and Huffman come ready for war every year. I can't see them ceding the title easily. Y'all gonna have to show me before I believe y'all belong in the top tier.
  10. HJ played good defense against a great team and almost stopped the 100 point streak. That would have been a great moral victory. But to go on about recruiting after the loss is sour grapes. They played the Lions tough last year and not a peep about it. If you're so sure about this, go file a complaint with the UIL, which frowns on this. The reporter should have pushed back on this comment. Where is your evidence? Otherwise, he's just letting the coach libel another coach. Bad job, Beaumont Enterprise. When there were veterans in the editor desks, this would have never happened. HJ could have avoided this by hanging on last Friday. They lost to the better team and there's no shame in that. This was an opportunity to teach his kids sometimes your best isn't good enough but that it's no reason to be ashamed because they laid it all on the line. Clay Davis is wrong.
  11. Yikes! Notwithstanding that result, the past few years of AAU ball has been good. LCM will be fine. District title within the next two years. I'm sticking with it . I had a conversation with a tiger fan at the game and he was complaint about y'all being down. Silsbee doesn't get to complain about being down when it's had all this success in the 2010. Being down is struggling for a decade. Y'all should be proud of the program and the pictures, trophies and banner in your gym are awesome. But complaining about being down should never be in your vocabulary.
  12. Calling off the trap was the mercy part. But when HJ was in half court, WOS was able to limit HJ to one shot. The Mustangs just couldn't handle the pressure.
  13. Watching Yates highlights has been a guilty pleasure every weekend. Had HJ hung on Friday, we'd be writing Silsbee's obit and talking about the Hawks getting ready for Huntsville. They have a good enough team to be playing for the regional championship, they just got a bad draw.
  14. LCM has two Jr high schools. All their kids don't play together until high school. So I wouldn't conclude that that's how it's going to be the next four years. And their 14u youth team went to Nationals in South Carolina in 2019. LCM isnt worried about Silsbee.
  15. I don't think the end result would be any different if the Hawks had a week to prepare for this game. It's going to be a difficult game against a tall fast team that most people have Crayola'd in as state champs. Godspeed Hawks.
  16. I had a good feeling about that. Shepherd's ask was contrary to everything they did leading up to the realignment announcement. It doesn't pay to be petty.
  17. WOS had a great year. They played great defense and frustrated the Hawks for most of the game. They played good enough on that side of the ball to make it a competitive game. They just couldn't take care of the ball on offense and it was all the difference in the world. No. 3 was everything as advertised. It was a great crowd. WOS showed out in force. It was much bigger than it was last week. Good luck HJ. It'll be fun seeing them in our district next year.
  18. Ughh that got ugly in a hurry. Bad clock keeper didn't start it up until WOS got past half court.
  19. Where's this blow out everyone was talking about? The Mustangs look very up to the task tonight. Hard to beat a team three times.
  20. LCM is going to be good in about a year. Their freshmen and Jr high group are solid. There's going to be a roar but it'll be coming from the Bears. They're going to get a district title and run with it. Next two years will be fun, the best 4A district in the area is shifting west to I69. Losing HJ and HF is a blow to the depth but Orangefield will be a nice addition. If y'all play Huffman Hargrave next week, I may venture out. It's a shame that game isn't a regional tournament game. If they both survive, it's a pick'em. The Falcons are a better version of HJ.
  21. As a dyed in green and gold bear, it hurts me but I'm pulling for the Mustangs Tuesday. I know HJ has the out of this world, future WNBA star, but it's hard to beat the same team three times in a season. WOS has played great defense down the strech and they are getting good contributions all around. Could we see an upset? Thoughts?
  22. Only lose one starter and one senior off the bench. It was an up and down year but it looks like they don't finally figured it out over the last couple of weeks and played to their advantage with their height. They're going to be a mainstay in the playoffs the next few years as our younger teams are dominating. We're on the upswing. They will compete for a spot in the regional tournament these next few years.
  23. Good game Silsbee. Best of luck the rest of the playoffs.
  24. Nah we did that last year. There's no gym between us that would have been a neutral court. Coach had to give his team the best chance. They only need the team, coaches and refs. We're not necessary. If not going to game guaranteed a win, I'd take it.
