  1. Livingston is pretty tall, ehh? We quit shooting threes and just drive in on y'all we might have an upset...
  2. They play in those gyms all the time. It's ok to venture out of your comfort zone every now and then.
  3. Both teams have a 90 minute ride to the venue. Last year at Kountze (great facility, btw) was practically a home game for Hardin-Jefferson. Lee College has a great facility. And it's a true neutral court. I'm excited to be there tonight.
  4. Why are we picking on HISD? The school district has ignored the community schools, leaving a lot of kids that can to transfer out because all the good programs are at Lamar, Bellaire, etc. HISDs refusal to bring magnet programs to the inner city has killed these schools. I wish these schools had the programs that would keep most of the kids in their zone at their schools and bring in a few outside kids as well. So as long as the enrollment says they're 4A, they're 4A. I believe only two of their 4A schools qualify for DI but all of them are playing up. Yates has always been good at basketball, going way back to the Prairie View UIL days. To say that the only reason they are good now is that HISD is artificially keeping their enrollment down is ludicrous.
  5. The Lions are tall and long. If they remember this, they can make this interesting as they have been a good defensive team. The downfall is shooting, there are too many times they go through 4-5 minute scoring droughts. They would have to play the perfect game to win. Crazier things have happened. It'll be fun.
  6. 17-7 Livingston after Q1. Senior night. DeBrian Rains and Ethan White honored before the game. Great kids. Shout out to the HJ coaching staff scouting the game.
  7. 62-52 Huffman Final. Good game. Good luck falcons on the rest of their season.
  8. 56-42 Huffman with 146 left to play Livingston is making this interesting...
  9. 45-36 Falcons after 3 Lions cut the lead to 31-27 with 4 minutes before the falcons stretched it 16 point. Livingston end the quarter on. 7-0 run and a long buzzer beating 3.
  10. 28-19 Hargrave at the half . Lions cut it to 3 several times but the Falcons found little runs to keep them at Bay. Ought to be a fun second half.
  11. 16-11 Hargrave Q1. Aggressive substitution by Livingston tonight. Very close and well played game.
  12. I would love to be in the room when they vote on this. From what I heard, this is quite the 180 turn of Shepherd's previous stance. It's a funny and very petty story, the best kind.
  13. 37-29 Tarkington final. Good game plan by the Horns. Much improved from last year. It was a fun rivalry while it lasted.
  14. 29-18 Tarkington Q3. Tarkington has our number tonight. The way they control the pace, the lead feels like 25 pts. Ugh!!!!
  15. 17-12 Tarkington at the half. Good showing by the Horns. They continue to control the pace of the game. Livingston has two players in foul trouble. Will be interesting how they manage that in the second half.
  16. 8-2 Livingston Q1. No score for the first four minutes. Tarkington wants to slow the game down but Livingston is being aggressive.
  17. The Livingston Lions visit the Tarkington Longhorns on the Prairie at 7:30 pm. The Horns (5-1l) got back to their winning ways with a 41-35 win at Splendora while the Lions (2-4) broke a 4-game skid by holding off a plucky Liberty Panthers squad at the Den. The first game was a close affair with Tarkington dictating the pace to win in Livingston. If the Lions have any designs on strengthening their playoff position, a win here is a must. If it's a low scoring affair, Tarkington got it. If it's a Track meet, the Lions have a shot. I have no clue. I was in Illinois the first time and the ball control by Tarkington sounded outstanding in the second half, along with timely shooting, was the difference. I'm rooting for chaos.
  18. I was wondering why Livingston didn't schedule Shepherd. Then I opened the newspaper and it lays it all out. They're really small. I feel bad they didn't drop the 3A. Their travel sucks. But it sucks for all the small schools. High Island has to play leggett Goodrich, zavalla, burkeville, etc because there's no one around their size. There's just not a good way to do this where everyone is going to be happy, especially in football. I wish they would make the split after district like the old days. The basketball districts at least look plausible and makes it easier to follow the rivals all year long because you see them at basketball, track, baseball, etc. District games are barely above non district because you only see the school once every two years if you don't go to road games.
  19. Free throw to put it away with 6 seconds left 58-51 Livingston. Lions move to 2-4, Liberty falls to 1-5
  20. Two freethrows and a fast break has pushed the Lions lead to 55-47 with 2 minutes to play...
  21. Liberty keeps fighting. 51-47. Lions less than 3 minutes to go.
