    Well.  That's...um...AGAINST THE LAW.  So..
If I were him, I'd be praying to get nonrenewed because of skin color.  If that's the case retirement may come early.  He may continue getting paychecks courtesy of Desoto High School for a long time.

From what I saw of the meeting last night, I am not sure that the voting electorate of the De Soto ISD would agree with you.  Three speakers from the public (all that the board allowed to speak) spoke in support of Peterman all to loud applause from the overflow crowd there.  Also, previous to the meeting, the superintendent of De Soto ISD recommended his renewal as well as the principal of De Soto High.
So De Soto "U" is all about winning, scholarships and getting to the league, huh?  Todd Peterman did 2 out of those 3 (and we may learn in 4 years that he did all 3) and where has that gotten him? Possibly out of a job.  Given that, why would a coach of a top program say to his bosses, "Ya know, I love this program, the kids, the community support, the school board support and winning, but I am leaving to go to De Soto."
Really?  Let's look at this.   Had Matt Steppe not tweeted what he tweeted yesterday afternoon and had folks from not only from DFW but all over the state tuned in to this meeting, the De Soto ISD board of trustees would have voted not to renew the contract of the ONLY coach in school history to lead De Soto High to a state championship (not Claude Mathis nor any other coach), less than 6 months after the trophy was raised, by a vote of 4-3 (which is strangely also the ratio of black board members to white board members).  Further, if those that want Peterman gone think that the state championship credit belongs solely to Shawn Robinson, who has now graduated, what does that say to a new coach about his chances of doing anything with a Robinson-less team?
They will get a coach, and probably a decent coach as the lure of coaching a defending state champion will be too much for some to ignore.  But if you think that there are coaches who will completely ignore the sorry manner in which this has been handled and decide to venture into the belly of the beast, well............
And with a 6A State Championship to his resume, Todd Peterman will go where ever he wants.  It may not be the equivalent to De Soto. Of course, after yesterday, I am not sure that he wants the equivalent to De Soto.

Sounds like he might be just the kind of guy they need on staff (at least). There's a lot to be said about a guy who has been where the kids are and can impart that wisdom.

offensively that can work if you have a solid D, lee's problem when they tried to do that was the teams in their district put up a lot of points and Lee is not going to win shootouts. Most of their best players played both ways and injury to one player could hurt offense and defense.

Yes he is.  I don't know how much coaching experience he has under his belt but I did mention to 2 separate people, regardless of what head coach is chosen, they should offer him some position on the staff and bring him home...

Yes...  I nicknamed him 'Mr. Playoffs' when he played and he was VERY key in our success on our 2008 AND 2009 teams.
I also share Jag Insider's sentiments...  If he don't get the position, let him be on the staff.  He can teach our players a lot, being that he also endured a lot of off the field issues during his time at Central.  He could be a great role model and tutor as well as a coach...

I guess I struck a nerve. I stand by what I said in my earlier post, Central has had some really good coaches that never stay beyond 3 or 4 years. The reason that is has to do with lack of support from the administration as well as unreasonable expectations. There is no way you can make me believe that every coach in the history of Central is just there to build there resume and then move on. You would have to be very naive to believe that. Whether it's a principal that went to prison or a revolving door of principals, you are not going to keep quality coaches around that way! In my opinion Stowers, Foreman, Suggs, and Sedberry are all damn good head coaches that all did good things for Central but all chose not to stick around because of all the nonsense. How do you not see that. There is no telling who just never applied because of the lack of support, constant change, and the nonsense! Ozen is in the exact same situation. Carrol Thomas got rid of Arthur Louis because he couldn't beat Mid County and advance in the playoffs! How has that worked for them since then! No established and successful coach wants to work for incompetent idiots. Central is coming off four straight playoff appearances including a co district title in 2014, with 14 starters back and there were 6 total applicants. That is embarrassing and should tell the whole story!

Want to be the first to congratulate Jeff Nelson as the new BMT Central Head Football Coach. Good luck Coach Nelson! Heard it tonight from the horses mouth! You were screwed over once by BISD administration but now go get your redemption. Nelson inherits the only other team besides PNG in District 22-5A that has made the playoffs four consecutive years. Build on the Jag Tradition and take it to another level. Go Jags!

That's too bad too because he was definitely a good one. His situation was interesting to me because he was so young when he made the jump to admin. I understand doing it later in your career, but as a young, talented coach who I assume truly loved the game, it was weird to see him step out.

Nobody in their right mind submits a letter of resignation, or tells their peers, or informs their boss that they are leaving until the have signed a contract or received a letter of intent.

I didn't say that...did I?  Nor did I imply it.  But I do have enough that work in the school system to know that even if he had it on good authority that there would be a job available to him around the holidays...it doesn't get announced until there is actually a piece of paper with a name signed to it.  Plain and simple..if he hadn't signed a letter of intent to hire or a contract then he didn't know for a fact he had a job.
Are you saying that he should've had enough confidence in "someone's word" that he had another job lined up?  Enough confidence to put his family at risk (potentially) by not being employed?  Because I can assure you that had he announced in December that he was leaving for Newton then Kirbyville would not have renewed his contract.  Then a chance is taken on not having a job...You did say "It's BS if he knew he was leaving way after the holidays and just told his staff last week".  Did you not?
Ask your family and friends that work in the school system if that would have been the best thing to do.

Maybe he just wanted to leave.  And maybe he didn't want to be HC anymore.  Being an asst at Newton Football isn't a bad choice if he wanted out of head coaching..
Hard to put a value on winning.

I would love nothing more than Coach Stark to head back to WS.  And then schedule Hardin....and then beat Hardin   70-0.  I'm sure he wouldn't do that because he's probably a better coach than I would be.  In terms of being professional, I mean.  But it sure would bring some satisfaction to me.

This was what Coach Jones wrote to David Smoak. Maybe this will shed a little light on the move. He will also have the opportunity to work with his brother Jared Jones who is Joaquin's OC and his friend AD/HFC Wade Lawson. They all graduated from Joaquin together. This is a home run hire for Coach Lawson and the Joaquin Rams.

As of this morning I have resigned from West Sabine ISD as Head Football Coach. This decision comes after much thought and many prayers. I would like to thank the West Sabine School District, administration, and the community for the opportunity to work at such a great school for the past eight years and the opportunity to coach their kids. These years have all been a blessing to me and my family, and I will always cherish them for as long as I live. This place has without a doubt changed me for the better, and I can only hope that along the way I’ve changed it a little as well. I truly feel the program is headed in the right direction and will only continue to get better; we’ve managed to stay extremely competitive and be a playoff team over the past two seasons even though most people didn’t give us a chance. I believe that’s a true credit to the will and determination of our kids and our coaching staff.

However, due to personal circumstances the time has come for me to take the next step in my life. My father has been battling Stage Four Kidney Cancer for the past year. It has been a roller coaster of a year for my family. Something like this really puts a lot of things into perspective for a person. I feel it is my obligation and duty to return home for my family. This is a decision I have struggled with over the past year, however I don’t think I could be the man that I claim to be if I don’t do what is right and put what is best for my entire family first in this situation. I’ve always preached the importance of “FAMILY” to the kids in our program, and now it’s time I set a good example. My wife is also pregnant with our first child, and I think it’s extremely important that our child gets to spend as much time with her grandparents as possible.

It is for these reasons that I will be taking a job at Joaquin High School as their Defensive Coordinator for the upcoming 2017 season. This is a move that will allow me to live close to my parents in order to help them out and also allow me to spend more time with them. I will have the rest of my life to focus on my career, and who knows what will happen next, but The Good Lord only gives you one family, and that will always be my number one priority.

    Sincerely,

    Jonathan Jones
