Again totally agree, but this generation believes that 55 mph means 65 mph, and gets mad when ticketed for speeding.
    It is never their fault!

Couldn't agree more ! A rule is a rule. If you break it there is a chance you will have to face the punishment for it. We have laws and rules in this country for a reason ! I'm sick of this crap of people doing something against the rules and then think that they are entitled to do it without consequences !!

If you're good enough, you'll get paid. Just not by the university.
Until then accept your free college education and move on. There are plenty of students much smarter and who will do more to better our society in general, that cannot afford to attend college. Most see a degree as more that just a certificate of completion in the minor leagues.
I refuse to feel sorry for any D1 athlete, especially in football or basketball.

This has nothing to do with the issue at hand. The current rules are the current rules, follow them and no trouble will find you. This always a victim mentality is what wrong with our entire country. He is a big boy now. When he messes up, he pays the price. Just like the rest of the world. All you ever want to do is bring up that you were a D1 athlete and all the rest of us are incompetent on all collegiate sports matters because we weren't. It's pretty simple, follow the rules and everything will be ok. As far as should college athletes be paid, this is a totally different subject. Quit tap dancing around the subject to avoid being proven wrong.

Stop.  Just stop. WCS was not a freshman. And you said "all of Coach K's championships came with veteran teams."  His best three players were freshmen and the kid who came up big in the FF was too (Allen).  I would say nice try but your stuff is so weak I can't in good conscience.
1,043 wins, 90 tournament wins, 12 final fours. All records.  Oh yeah, and 5 Natty's.  Oh yeah, and unlike your boy, none of his teams have been placed on probation.  Overrated?  The only thing overrated is your perception that you know this game.
I will give you credit though.  Many times I have said you couldn't possibly make a more ridiculous statement than your last.  And in that regard, you do keep proving me wrong...

I am not sure I want to continue with this conversation, but I will. After about 5 cups of coffee, I am ready to go! ha.  My plan is to respond to the emboldened portions of your retort in the order they appear in the quoted section of this post.
    1)  You are quick to point out that it was you who campaigned and "did all of the leg work" (I am sure the board and superintendent would love to hear you take all the credit for the hire) to bring Hodges to HD. If he is so bad and dividing the community and students in the way you say, why on earth would anyone be so quick to hand you the right to choose the next coach that comes to HD. For that matter, you campaigned for Hodges the year Finney was hired, and publically stated that you were opposed to the decision. Now you say that Finney was the best thing to happen to HD in years. So by your own admission, you are 0-2 at choosing football coaches at HD. Why would anyone look to you to choose the next one?
    2)  You and I have totally different definitions of respect if you still claim you respect these guys. Respect, as defined by Websters dictionary, is: "a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements". You do not show a deep admiration for either of these men, especially not one elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. Once again, proven by reading the things you have consistently said about them on this very public forum.
    3)  While the implication here is that the Hodges/Birdwell regime is jeopardizing the culture, tradition and future of HD, neither of those men have had to be personally spoken to by the superintendent or HS principal about their behavior at sporting events. They have handled themselves with grace and pride during tough times, while certain onlookers have been so unruly in the stands that they have had to be corrected by school administration. You tell me which is more threatening to the fabric of our community.
    4)  Those that you interviewed, do they represent the 40 signatures on that petition? Have you interviewed anyone who refused to sign the petition? What about Mrs. Huckaby or Mr. Godwin, did you speak to them regarding Coach Hodges performance? What about other coaches on the staff? Sometimes when we only speak with those who share our opinion, we embrace the false reality that our opinion is the only opinion. There are a couple of guys whom I highly respect that have boys playing on the team, and serve on our school board. Have you discussed this with them, and if so, do they agree with you? I'll bet they don't and I'll bet you are not choosing to listen to their reasoning.
    5)  Any one of my family members who fits this description is no closer than a second cousin of mine. One is a close personal friend of Coach Birdwell, and the other is married into a family who are close personal friends of Coach Birdwell. Neither of those people have ever had a conversation with me regarding HD football in any form. You say you know it is a fact that my opinion comes from those "blinded" family members, but I've never spoken to them about this. So how do you "know" that to be a "fact"? I am sure they will be glad to read that you consider them blinded. They are more than likely lurking around this board.
    6)  No you wouldn't. Am I to believe that you would rally for them to lose their job then turn around and help them find another? Lets use your refinery example. If you get your buddy a job with JV and he (in your opinion) underperforms, will you then campaign to get him on with Jacobs? You absolutely wouldn't do that and you absolutely won't do what you are claiming you would do.
    7)  Once again not true. We only need to look at the way things went down this year. Team struggles, you are talking to anyone who will listen regarding all the coaching mistakes being made. You want kids playing both ways, you want to run the ball rather than pass, you want to run the wing T....the list goes on and on. That is not support, in fact, it is the opposite of support. I expect nothing less next year if these guys choose to stay here.
    8)  Liberal post? Hmmmm....this one I cannot figure out. I guess I am liberal because I believe more in #character than I do in #HDNation. Trust me, I am not against holding coaches accountable and expecting them to be excellent at their jobs. What I am against is flat our campaigning for these guys, bringing them in, having them uproot their families and lives thinking they had a support system in place because you told them they did, then turning on them almost immediately. That is not #HDNation. Most of #HDNation (besides the 40) are vehemently opposed to the way these men are being treated, and most of them place the blame for that on you. When you are given a platform for leadership (and lets not be mistaken, right or wrong, you have created yourself a platform for leadership) you must wield it correctly or it becomes a danger to yourself and everyone around you. If that leadership platform gets larger because you are elected to the school board, the responsibility becomes even greater. Right now, you are using that leadership and influence to divide, and in the process some of your "greatest friends" are being dragged through the mud.
And I'll close with this, since we are on the topic of liberals. I know that you have very negative opinions of President Obama, so let me pose a question. Do you feel that his supporters are responsible for his performance and the way it is affecting our country? Those who went to the polls and twice elected him commander and chief, do they have some blood on their hands regarding the supposed deterioration of America? If so, how can you not see that, if Hodges/Birdwell are as bad as you say, and you are the "reason they are here", you are at least partially culpable in the deterioration of our football program?
I'm just asking you to think about what you are saying and doing. Some things are bigger than football.

Since you brought up conference, in the last 2 seasons UT is 9-9 in conference play and A&M is 7-9. I know, I know, A&M plays in a waaaaaayyyy tougher conference. In the last 2 seasons in conference UT is 3-6 against Top25 teams and A&M is 3-5 against Top25 teams. So in the last 2 years UT has played against more ranked conference teams than A&M, and has a better conference record. But I know you will hang your hat on that conference thing.

Need a QB first. Romo will not make it through an entire season anymore. Hope he does, but I don't see it. As far as free agent QB's, I don't think any of them are worth taking a shot at. Especially Manziel ! (Idiot).Draft a young one. Then start building a defensive line like they did with the offensive line.

Ozensfinest thinks that the Alabama student committee just had it out for Tony because he went to Ozen.

Thousands of kids go play football on scholarships. Very, very few of the. Get arrested for fighting the cops 2 weeks after they show up on campus.... And that IS a big deal to everybody that DIDNT attend Ozen, FYI.  Only one got sent home by his teammates before their Cotton Bowl this year. Question for Ozensfinest.... How many more of these incidents before you'll be able to admit that the kid seems to have decision-making problem?

You bet I was saying it bout Trey.  He screwed up and cost himself a freaking complete year of football. And what made Trey's actions particularly more gauling is that he had not learned from his days as WO-S when he missed the last part of his senior season due to a suspension by Coach Hooks.  But the year's suspension finally sunk in and Trey did contribute to the OU squad, then graduated and got his degree.  Tony has a chance to avoid all of what Trey endured if he learns from this experience
Again, you try to minimize this by making it an SETX vs. Ozen thread. But, I and all on this forum, know better.  This is not an Ozen thing.  There have been plenty of athletes of all sports who have walked the halls of Clifton J. Ozen High School who have starred at their respective sport at Ozen, have gone on to college AND THE PROS having managed to manage the stress of being a student athlete (i.e. Kheeston Randle and Kendrick Perkins).  And there are others (Trey Green) who are currently managing those rigors without the need of going before a disciplinary committee, university, player or otherwise.
Most hope not to ever see a topic of this nature about Tony ever again.  But ohhhhhh, not you!  You pine for the day that a thread like this shows up again so you can continue your "EVERYBODY HATES OZEN" pity party.  Of course, that is the only way that you make it to that 10 page prediction that you stupidly made earlier.  But as every one on this forum knows, you are prone to making stupid predictions and then blowing idiotic smoke when those predictions don't come true.  You know with every idiotic comment you make these days, you shed more light on why a 5-star linebacker recruit ended his college career for the most part on the bench of a FCS college.

The only one I see on here making this an Ozen thing....is...well....you!  What are your trying to say this fighting and what not is an Ozen thing that nobody else would understand.  That must be what you are trying to say as you are saying as thousands of other FBS athletes have managed to deal with the stress of the world of a student athlete, the only examples (even though I readily acknowledge that there are others) that you have provided are him...and...well...you.
But while you try to make this a war of Ozen vs. the world, it is not about that.  And much as you try to make it, it really isn't about you.  It is about a kid who created such a disturbance by his actions that the player leadership of his team did not want him to take even a single step onto the AT&T Stadium field on New Year's Eve.  Has he committed any criminal act? No.  But he needs to realize that his actions, every freaking single one of them, carry consequences, both good and bad.  If he realizes that, he should be fine.  If not....if he, like you attempts to whitewash this as being hate on an Ozen alum or that he is being punished for a "VERY" common occurrence, then he will likely end his football career pretty soon with talent foolishly wasted.

First time I have ever heard of a player being sent home by a player's committee.  Look you can go 'til you are blue in the face claiming that there is nothing unusual about this or that this is the culture of college football, but the results show that you are, as usual, wrong and you can tell us all about your college days to try and convince us otherwise, but you are just blowing smoke.  There are folks from all over the Triangle, and for that matter, all over this nation who have managed to avoid these "VERY common" occurrences.  So don't try to sell me your crap, 'cause I ain't buying!

No it is easy to critique when 1) this is not his first incident 2) there are guys on that very team from this area who even though younger than Brown, have not chosen the same path and 3) the decision to send  Brown home was first made by a players' committee which indicates to me that this is not the culture, at least at Alabama.  I wish him well whether at Alabama or else where, but to try and defend him merely by saying "well that is just how it is" reveals some of the true problems with American culture today.
