What is NCSA?

East Chambers is hosting their athletic banquet tonight to recognize the accomplishments of the past year. Major Applewhite is the guest speaker. It should make for a nice wrap up for the year.

Took my son and two of his friends to the game last nite. Definately worth the hour long wait for tickets. LaMarque was tough but as most had stated was not able to stay competitive for a full 4 quarters. Some of the most enjoyable high school ball I've witnessed.

How large is Katy's Merrell center, should there be plenty of seating for these games? My son has wanted to watch Yates and thought the possible matchup against la marque might be as good as it gets.

The BH coach definately has the reputation and past record to garner respect by parents and kids , but at BH he had a large student population to choose from. Perhaps someone from a successful 2a school would have a better understanding of how to use the limited number of athletes in all sports. That is something that we deal with constantly on the 2a level. Football, basketball, and baseball along with UIL academics, tennis, golf, and  FFA have to coexist in small communities for success.

After reading the Barbers Hill and the HF threads along with many others. I wonder why anyone would want to coach these days. Parents, misguided kids, bad administrators, and petty shool board members make coaching a thankless task. Maybe we all should step back and realize the difficult task faced by teachers and coachs today and just be thankful as parents that someone cares enough about our kids to put up with us.

Winner of the EC/New Waverly game will face the winner of the Kountze/? game

Look forward to having two playoff games at our new Gym tues. For those that have not been to the new gym, the EC athletic Booster Club has a really good concession stand and food is allowed in the gym. BBQ sandwiches, links, frito pies, nachos, popcorn, and hotdogs along with a good selection of drinks, candy and chips. Hope everyone enjoys our new gym as much as I do.

From what I have seen, there has been stability in the girls sports in coaching, The  volleyball coach and many key parts of the girls program have been a constant and have respect within the community. The boys program is a different matter, not much positive said in the community about the AD / head football coach and many of the others involved in the boys programs, by the parents or kids. It appears this has caused several kids to not compete in all sports which is necessary for a school the size of H-F to be competitive. I hope eveything works out for HF because the program has produced many fine athletes such as Spencer George and Flip Johnson as well as Les Koenning.

I was told by one of the EC coaches and a school board member. Evidently HF made the decision during the season. Don't know why . Like you I will miss not having the game  {win or lose}. It was always a chance to visit and agitate friends from across the county line and kind of seemed like a warm up for the rice festival. It was usually one of the larger crowds of the season probably for both schools.

I think everyone should go back and read the original post, I did not bash HF, I talked about an old rivalry gone. There are numerous threads talking about schedules and the effect the economy, realignment, and coaches have had on what will be the 2010 season and this is why I posted. I know about the past success of HF because i WAS THERE. I am talking about now and how a friendly neighborhood rivalry is gone. Kids from both schools have enjoyed the rivalry, particularly since they have played soccer, baseball, and little dribblers together since they were about 4 yrs old. Many have posted on this football and the basketball forums about the decline in HF athletics programs, and the loss of school support regarding such. Seems to me the loss of rivalry games just adds to this decline in school enthusiasm.

Academics, come on EC rates as well anyone , matter of fact EC high school was exemplary and has students playing college sports and attending some of the most prestigous universities in the country. besides that we are on the football forum thats why I am talking about football

I have always been told , if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. I guess HF's coaching staff can't stand the heat of another possible loss to EC. Just shows the direction of many of the HF athletic programs.

Can you believe HF will not play EC in football anymore. Seems HF made the decision during football season, before realignment even came into play. Another old rivalry gone.

from looking over the fence and having the pleasure to watch HF kids grow up and compete against Ec kids in Little dribblers and little league for the past 12 years, its appears to me that its not a lack of talent, but problems within the school system. There are kids who have tremendous upside, who no longer want to play for Hf in all sports and choose to play only one or none nowdays. It stems not only from personal coaching decisions but from the adminstrative stance of the school also. The problems seeem to be much greater than just boys basketball because the football program is terrible.

Thank goodness Kirbyville moved to 3a or they would probably be in this district also. Should cause a lot of sleepless nights throughout the district with such a competitve district schedule. Go Bucs

If I remember right EC beat Anahuac and Woodville this year. Ec returns a lot of starters also. Should make for an exciting district.

Bucs played with great energy and finally played like a team.  They had many turnovers due to the aggressive Panther press but never gave up.  This was a true team victory where every point, rebound, steal and free throw made a difference.

EC should be very salty next year.  They have only one senior on the team.
