What an impressive list of running backs with a whole lot of stats. IMO having yardage, minus wins can be meaningless in most cases. Therefore, J. Shaw is the best running back because he has the wins to back up the stats. The next best back would be the kid from Newton at this point in the football season.

Alex Brown leads a liberty panther team that is undefeated with two wins against other SETX ranked top 10 teams. with 962 yards and 9 TDs i would say he has the stats and wins as well.

I can't even lie...I forgot about Brown. Lol I'm not sure how, after he ran all over us, but somehow I did.

I didn't take it personal.. i was just talking about the fact that your list was 4/5 3a and 4a teams running backs and we gotta give our 5a and 6a SETX squads  more credit than that

    Silsbee's Calvin Tyler: 111 rushes, 1058 yards, 8 TD's, in 5 games.

Oh yeah he's nice I didn't mean to insinuate that NONE of the running backs in 4A and down can compete with the running backs in 5A and 6A .. Just meant in general when i saw the original post in this thread  We may have 1 or 2 that are deserving of being on that list and your guy Tyler is one of them. Cayce Draper is  another 1 in 4A that can ball .. Liberty's alex brown is good as well.. I was more reacting to the original post in this thread and that was the one that had 2 3A running backs and 2 4A running backs on the top 5 setx list and i was just trying to make it clear that can't be accurate because we do have 5A and 6A teams in SETX lol and im sure their running backs are some athletes

  4. Where are the stats on these guys who are getting named ? New Caney's Allison is going off , and that's 5A you gotta put him in there over some of those guys on the smaller levels.. tougher competition too, and he's like 5'11 185 running a 4.5 he rushed for 1200 yards and 15 touchdowns last year so he's been doing it consistently i hate to knock any of the smaller schools guys off but I didn't even mention Liberty's alex Brown because I know how many monsters 5A and 6A have Alex Brown has 962 yards and 9 touchdowns through 6 games .. but the way i see it basically if you are the starting running back for the playoff contending schools in 5A and 6A you would probably also start on any of the 4a and 3a teams in this area and do well so i cant say any of these guys are better than say the starting running back for atascocita , and i dont even know who that is or what his stats look like but if started for liberty theyd prolly be similar to alex's lol thats the case im trying to make

Woodville went 7-3 last year lol not sure how this season is a huge surprise. The surprise is that they beat Kirbyville as bad as they did. They also have a runningback who is easily a top-5 back in SETX.

Cmon now, top 5 in all of SETX? meaning 1A-6A? out of every single team in this area you can't name 5 backs better than him?

Well why should Newton be Div I or in 4A DIV II? You never answered my question....

they shouldn't. Just because the teams are so darn good compared to CC doesn't mean they should be in a higher classification. The amount of kids at your school is the only thing that should determine that, not the skill of your football team. So this guy is suggesting they get moved up to 4A ? So they have to compete academically in UIL competition, band, basketball , volleyball etc.. against schools 3x there size all because their football teams are good enough to beat 4A school's football teams? It doesn't work like that lol. The fact that they are good enough to compete with 4a D1 schools and beat them just speaks loudly as to how good those coaching staffs are and how great the community is to its football team and most importantly bloodlines in a place like newton. They didn't just get that way over night because people moved in , they have always been good, you can't punish a community for investing in its football team and doing well in that sport by moving them up in classification that's just nonsense lol

    ok you asked for it.

#1).this could possibly be the most overrated Newton team to ever be ranked!

#2). Cold Spring  would possibly turn Newton upside down and mop the floor

#3). Madisonville vs Newton would end in a TIE!

#4). Rusk possibly could of pulled the upset!

    there you have it #Period#notamyth#nuttinbutfacts#

dude trippin lol coldspring would lose to newton badly.

That game OF lost 41-7 was a very bad outing for us.  No excuses, we lost and earned that lost.  However, over the last 3 weeks OF has made some improvements and are not the same team that lost by 34 points.  I think everyone of our 2 way starters are 100% healthy for the first time.

Granted, I'm sure Liberty isn't the same team from a month ago.

With that said, OF needs to make sure they don't fumble the ball to keep the game within reach.

But I still think this year's game will be an uphill battle for OF against Liberty.

good post, I was in no way saying Orangefield can't compete with us based off that 1 common game we have against Woodville. That's why i was sure to include the comment that common opponents do not always matter. It was a close game last year so i wouldn't be surprised if it was close again. Just think the panthers will come out on top this time around.

OK, OK, there is a little disclaimer at the bottom asking for y'alls' thoughts. I considered putting Vidor on here but was concerned about being called biased. Besides, since 2009 the Pirates are 46 - 38 with three playoff appearances; this year withstanding (number 4). Like most of y'all, I start threads to stir the pot a little and IMO, these are my five. You are or course, welcome to your opinion. Evadale was expected to do good but they haven't been phenomenal over the last decade and I was pointing out that they might make a good run in the playoffs. Besides, I'll bet half the people on this board can't find Evadale on the map. Take them off, put us on it and there ya' go! AAW, Liberty has had only one winning season since 2000, (2011) according to lonestarfootball.net. I didn't go back further because that sorta proved my point.

the history forum on this site is 100% accurate when it comes to liberty at least dating back to 2000. That other site is completely off.

  11. Crockett handled Coldspring better than liberty did so i like that they are 1 spot above them in the rankings as of now. My question is, if they lose this week, they're only losing to the #2 team in the poll... so you can't knock them down too far, but would you switch them out with liberty at #3 if liberty were to win and crockett were to lose? or is newton so good crockett would retain their current ranking?

  12. I know Orangefield is always fairly disciplined and they have beat us two years in a row, . I don't underestimate them but I do predict a Liberty win. I can't imagine if they lost 41-7 to a team we beat that they could somehow beat us, that wasn't last year that was a couple of weeks ago , that alone has me thinking this should be a panther win but of course common opponents don't always tell you exactly what the outcome will be.

More than likely out of hj and hf,these 2 should be 2 &3

HJ appears to be better than Orangefield from strength of schedule and win/loss record thus far this season, after that win against Jasper I have HJ getting 3rd behind Liberty. OF should get 4th and HF should go 0-4 in district.

  14. Liberty has had 2 very close games this year, one against Coldspring at home and one in Shepherd ... Against Coldspring they were driving down the field towards our band and our crowd was going crazy chanting DEFENSE DEFENSE along with the cheerleaders but the band wasn't playing at all. IDK what they were doing. Same against Shepherd we had a good away crowd stomping and yelling after we fumbled and shepherd was driving, then the band started playing when we got the ball back and were trying to go score. Seems like there should be some kind of coordination prior to the game with the team and the band, where someone in the band is responsible for making sure they are playing when they should be, and quiet when they should be. I know the last the thing on the coaches mind is probably the band.. but I see the players looking into the stands telling us to get up of our butts and cheer when the game is close... so you know the players care about the crowd so i think the band should be getting turnt up when the players turn around telling us to stand up they should know to get loud as well. Like i said its probably a stupid post from a coaching perspective but as a fan i'd like to give our team every advantage possible and the crowd is definitely a factor in sports.
