1. I don't know a single hunter other than outlaws that practice the "kill everything that moves".  Most leases here (every one I've been on) have had some sort of management program on it.  Some people here act as if people in East Texas don't know a thing about hunting at all. A bit arrogant. East Texas isn't south Texas which is littered with high fences, tame bred deer, and canned hunts.
2. Thats weird because in my opinion its just starting to heat up.
3. Not chasing so far in Kirbyville.
4. Hell a well placed shot from a .22 will knock down most anything in Texas.
5.
Bear Bryant, in truth, the parents are the bosses of the coaches because they are the taxpayers of the district that employs the coaches.  I can't think of a superintendent, especially in a smaller district, that wouldn't cave in to griping parents of a losing coach, even if the coach has no talent to work with.  That said, the yelling at coaches should NOT be done from the stands.  I'm not talking about occasional groans because any coach makes mistakes, and parents do have the right to their opinions.  They just hurt their kids when they act like idiots, and they hurt their kids' attitudes when they constantly gripe in front of the kids.  If parents want a good program, football or any other sport, they need to support the coach as much as possible, give him a chance, and then if he/she is ineffective in building a program, talk to the coach or to the powers that be because that is the parents' right as a taxpayer.
No they are not the bosses of the coach. Not one parent can enter a coaches office and say "As your boss, I want you to ...... )  The superintendent is the boss.  And there are many sup's around that have backbones.  The sup answers to the board.  The board faces the voters.  Many parents dont even vote though.  Coaches do pay taxes as well.  I do agree with you in that an ineffective coach is not going to be around long.
6.
People that are employed in the public school system should not be treated any different than anyone else.  If a public school official is not performing at the level that parents feel that they need to be than I feel that some criticism is warrented.
Nobody is saying that they should.  Its the tasteless comments that we are talking about.  Coaches are professionals who do this for a living.  Coaches don't approach their jobs attempting to perform that job at a certain level that parents (who know nothing about coaching) feel they need to be at.  The parent's are not the bosses of the coach. Like I said earlier.. Parents do have the right to say things from the stands... Coaches have the right to laugh about the idiocy of those comments.
7. It usually doesn't bother the coaches to hear fans yelling at them.  Most know that the football dads don't know a thing about football.  Makes for many field house laughs.  A lot of it is jealousy.  These football guru's work in fields where their job is just a job.  Other than getting off for the weekend their job gives them no excitement.  Not that way with coaching.  Most 'football guru dads" couldn't even tell you if thats a 2tech or 3 tech, is it a read defense or an attacking defense, cover 2,3,4 or man coverage, loose 9 or an 8 tech, stunting from stemming, o line rule blocking or zone blocking, log block from a kickout.  People have such a sense of entitlement. "I pay taxes therefore I can say what I want". "Its my first amendment right".  Yes you do pay taxes but so do the coaches, Yes its your right but its also other peoples rigth to see you as a fool. The same guy thats badmouthing the coaches from the stands is usually the same dad thats acting as the coaches friend, always hanging around the fieldhouse glad handing them.  We all know the old saying. Every team needs that perfect coach who knows when to play the best kids, in the right positions, run the right plays, run the right defenses, make all of the exact correct adjustments....... But they can't get him to put his popcorn down and come out of the stands.
8.

By the way, what do the horns of a trophy deer taste like?
What does the meat of a trophy deer taste like?  95% will tell you they would rather have beef, which is much easier to come by.
I personally believe that is an incorrect statement. I think that it is more like 98.5%. And to your intent in rebuttal of bassman, anyone that shoot a deer "for meat" is in a losing proposition unless he is shooting it out the back door of his home. Out of the billions spent by deer hunters in Texas each year, it isn't in order to get backstraps or ground meat.
I am one that is in it for the hobby, the meat is a little bit of recoup.  I consider myself a Ted Nugent type.  i can get hyped up with buck fever over any deer.  It doesn't have to be a big buck.
9.
Better 6 deer with 5 of them does. I can't get over the fact that some people think that does should have some kind of protection or shouldn't be killed.
I would never say that the whole family should shoot off one tag but it totally pisses me off to see this one family taking out 6 bucks.  They start out with shooting 8 points (and any 8pt at that) and by the time they are done they are hammering away at anything.  I laugh when I see a spike with 4"horns and they call it a "longhorn spike".
10. yes the poaching is killing us but I"m sure poaching goes on everywhere. Also some of these leases must change. This is crazy... I hunt on a family lease but in this case each and every member of my family (2 boys, me and wife) can tag out on bucks, we get two does per family. Now I have enough conservation sense to realize that if we did that it wouldnt' be too long before there would be nothing left. last year we killed 1 buck and 2 does off my lease. We save tags for a south Texas trip every year. However I know several families that are maxing out everything and taking home 8 deer off my lease with only 2 of them does. Drives me absolutely crazy!.
11. I agree with that. The problem with this is that these rules do not allow for the killing of trash bucks. My son killed a 6 point 4 years ago (his first buck) that had a rack no bigger than a softball. It weighed 140 pounds. Under these rules this buck could not be killed. I know that these are not the norm though.
12. I don't think so. Letting the natural deer in the area grow another year isn't going to all of a sudden make a bunch of trophy ranches in east Texas. Ours goes up almost every year but its been doing that for a while. I'm not 100% against this. I have mixed feelings. I welcome more mature deer.
13. I understand meat hunting and that goes right in line with the east Texas, kill it if it moves. When it was legal, there was no questions but due to that practice of killing yearling deer, the state is moving in to remedy it. That is why the new law with the state wanting the herd to grow up. It also doesn't make sense to do a meat hunt in south Texas when it is going to cost you $500 for Bambi when you are on a trophy ranch. If these ethical hunters knew how and would kill mature deer, then there would be no need for a 13" spread restriction and it could go to a 3.5 year old deer no matter the spread. As far as the can of worms, if someone is on their own lease and they want to kill nothing but spikes and four pointers, then go for it. It is there land. Of course with the new antler restrictions, that may no longer be legal. What I"m saying is that they aren't in it for the antlers. That doesn't mean that they have the mindset of "kill it if it moves". Many of them don't fill all their tags. If they had that mindset they would fill them all. My grandfather has hunted all of his life and there isn't a better sportsman or hunter than he when it comes to reading deer signs, tracking deer, and the like yet he may bring home a 6point and be done. Yes he passes on deer but ultimately he's not in it for the antlers. I just hate that antlers are running the show. People can say that they want the age of deer to grow but in the end its all about antler size.
14. Ain't that the truth. ;D I may be dogging out us east Texas hunters but I believe a lot of it is the mentality in this part of the state. The "If it's brown, it's down" (mis)management style doesn't leave much to be judged. Maybe some of these antler restrictions will help with the education but I have my doubts. I do believe that even though it isn't perfect, in the long run it will help. Of course if it is a private lease, someone can always get into the MLD program and not have to worry about those rules including up to hunting with guns during the archery only season. I don't know why I'm even doing this cause its going to open a can of worms. Its sort of arrogant to assume that hunters don't know what they are doing when they shoot smaller bucks. I know many many experienced and ethical hunters who really don't care about trophy hunting. They simply enjoy the hunt. They are legal, ethical and very knowledgeable.
15. I would have shot him as my cull buck. I have one coming around that is just at 13". Don't know about him yet.
16. whatever you do just make sure you go to the Huntington Meat Market and Deli! Nowhere else can you eat a 24 ounce steak for 11.95!
17. I've never been duck hunting. WOuld love to go one day but my wife says deer hunting, and SETX sports are enough hobbies.
18. Well me and my boys are going to do our best and get the squirrels away. Its their first time to ever go squirrel hunting and I believe I now have two little addicts! They like it better than deer hunting.
19. Didn't go bowhunting. I took my boys out squirrel hunting. Took 8 of em.
20. Defenses cause fumbles, kickers miss fieldgoals because of defensive pressure sometimes. thats part of football. Learn how to lose gracefully with class. I wouldn't be surprised if any team in this district loses a couple of games. Evidently Lumberton's D needs a little work. Whats Vidor's all time record against Lumberton?
21. Some on here look at the polls in the wrong way. They should be looked at in a "pound for pound" way.
22. I just started reading this thread but that remark is true class! I'd be embarrassed having someone from my town say stuff like that. And isn't hull daisetta one of the bigger 1A's? I thought they used to be 2A.
23. I will go crabbing with my kids and when I get home I'm going to cook a few crabs and drink a few beers while sitting on my back deck.
