1.
Lots of good cats are caught up the Angelina River just North of the Neches/Angelina split on drop lines in about 25 feet. Further south on the cuts between the Neches and Steinhagen, trotlines running parallel with the banks are real good using shad in about 8'. We caught a freezer full last year of an avg. size of 2-3 lbs. The cool thing was we could bait up early(5 a.m.) and then bass fish til noon and then run our lines. We averaged 10-15 a day over a two week period. Also caught some descent white perch in the process.
I 've always tried to fish mine perpendicular to the banks.  Tie one end off at the bank and another off on a snag in the water.  I'm excited about this year.  Wish I could get me some yellow mudcats for bait.
 2.
I try to throw a line or two out every other week or so, depending on how busy I am.  I usually use goldfish or perch for bait.  Where do you usually go?
I fish in the Neches river below the Hwy 96 Bridge between Evadale and Silsbee.  Mostly where the Village creek empties into the Neches near Vidor.
 3.
I think all freshmen and most sophomores should go through strength training. They need that development. But juniors and seniors that only play one sport should use that time for skill training for that sport. I am of the opinion that at small schools (3A and down) athletes should play multiple sports. No reason for some of the best athletes at the school just play one sport. At Silsbee, this year's varsity basketball team had just 2 players that did not play football. The remaining 10 played football, including 3 of it's starters in Elam, Gaines and Holmes. Of the 16 players on the Tiger varsity baseball team, only 2 of them did not play football. There are several that are three sport athletes at Silsbee. Football, basketball, baseball, track or soccer, combination of the three. Even though Silsbee is the largest school in 21-3A, it counts on it's athletes being multi-sport athletes. Silsbee makes all it's freshmen athletes go through UOS.
You are totally correct.
 4. A lot of fishing talk on here but not any about my favorite kind.......trot lining.  Anyone else out there that catfishes?  I'm getting geared up for spring break, will be setting lines out soon.  Last year I mainly used cut bait (buffalo) and I slated the bluecats but ops won't bite cut bait. The yellow mudcat are hard to find anymore for bait but will concentrate on perch for the ops. Just wanting some catfish talk.
 5. The 8pt,7pt, and one doe came from my lease between Buna and Kirbyville,  The spike and three other does came from Rock Springs.  I'm about to set up some hog traps.  Anyone have any preferences on a portable vs corral type trap?
 6. Well I had one awesome season.  Between me and my two sons we killed 7 deer.  The best season yet.  My oldest killed a very nice high rack 8 point and a doe, my youngest a nice 14 inch 7 point and a doe while I took a very old longhorn spike and does.  I still have the "deer lease" in my blood for now but am begrudgingly moving towards catfishing.  The only downside was that the hogs were very elusive this past year.  We didn't get any whereas last year we took 5 of them.
 7. I have Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck now and they are at 35K on them.  But they are bald.  I will be switching to a more aggressive tire when I buy.  Will probably look at the Mud Grapplers.
 8. Have gotten a 14" 7 point and a doe so far.  The 7pt would have been a nice 8pt or 9pt but one of his main beams was broken.  Leaving for Rock Springs in the morning.  After that will be back at my home lease on Saturday to finish up here and get ready for youth season.  Its been a tough year because of the drought but I have had a blast.
 9. My youngest son got a 8pt opening morning and then a doe a few days ago.  It is eating my oldest alive that little brother is ahead.
 10. Our far leftist friend tried to sneak back on here again?  Mr. Enlightened isn't too bright.
 11. Well I guess its too bad for  me... It has been discontinued..
 12. I'm interested in this Muzzle loader gun.  Anyone have any knowledge of this weapon.  Does it meet the standards of TPWD for a blackpowder gun?
 13.
For IDK Select Ball, Summer Ball, Year Round Ball, Super Select, Elite- Call it what you want, its still "Daddy Ball". There are some darn fine baseball coaches, even at the 1A and 2A levels in this state and they are not all hired as "Football" coaches. I dont know where that misconception comes from. Ever thought there just might be some "baseball" guys out there that happen to coach "football". Believe me, they exist. Too often, coaches are tagged with a "label" they do not deserve. What the average person fails to see is that these coaches, even before they have stepped on a field for a Tuesday afternoon baseball game, have already given 6 lessons over JFK and the Cold War to over 150 students. Just because that man is not asking the parents to pay 500-1000 $ per kid (or more in some cases) to play for him, does not mean he does not know the game. And most have played baseball beyond their HS years as well! You my friend are disillusioned. And by the way I loved your comment about "The coaches you see are not really that good". Really? Well who died and made you the super duper 4A and below baseball coach master evaluator. Do you even know any of these coaches or does your "select" team just borrow the fields they take care of all year during the summer. Yea, thats what I thought. Keep yellin Daddy! he he
Excellent post
 14. Have you tried Bobs Pawn Shop in Woodville or the Gunslinger in Jasper?  Both places , if they don't have one in stock could order  you one.  They are both competitive in prices as well.

Mine: Thompson Center Muzzleloader Henry 17 HMR Sako 300 Win Mag 45-70
Just so happens I have a TC Omega in a 50 cal, stainless with Blk composite, BSA 4x12, I'll trade for a TC Encore 204Rem barrel or 250$
Dont wait on me but if  you still have it in a couple of months I'm defenitely interested.  Christmas hit us hard and now have a 10yr old's birthday that is going to smack me good.  I came out like a bandit at Christmas and my wife may shoot me if I mention buying a gun right now.  I"m very interested but like I said, don't let me hold you up on selling the gun.
 16.
I don't think anyone that would disagree that the quality of education is typically better in private schools than in public.
That is a MAJOR misconception. Private schools don't have to adhere to the same guidelines that public schools do.  Private schools can hire joe-blow the sacker at Market basket to teach Algebra if they want to. Now with that being said there are some very elite private schools but by and large the publics out do the privates in the area of quality of education.
My 300 Weatherby Mag... does not get out much since I have yet to take a trip to Canada. :P I bought the gun on a whim since I just had to give back a Savage Anshutz .22 (1200.00) gun that I had just inherited... Long story- but the short of it was my cousin had yet to pick a gun from the collection and guess which one he wanted ( I had already nab the Ruger) ... exactly the 1200.00 .22 long rifle. Well I went to the gun shop next to Academy to see if I could replace  the Anshutz and much to my surprise it was a 1200.00 .22 rimfire an I said heck with that  I bought a pristine Winchester Model 70 in 300 Wby with a 26" barrel.. a pretty unique gun in itself... but it does not get used much because I prefer hunting with the Ruger or the Marlin... No doubt it can handle the larger game but I have yet to make a hunt for elk or moose. Maybe next year ;D unless your paying and in that case we can leave tomorrow!
Is a 300 Win Mag more or less powerful than a 300 Weatherby Mag ?  I've always wanted a 300 win mag.
 19. I went on a 35 mile mud ride a few years ago and it was my once and ONLY time to ever do that!  I will never ever ever ever ever do that again!  Those guys were ramming into each other and then banging their racks out again with hammers while I was sitting their in total fear that if my new fourwheeler got damaged my wife would have my hide!  Been there done that!
 20. As far as head shots.... wounded deer?    THey are the safest shots because they are either hit (dead) or miss.
 21. Wait a minute... Are you saying that a 400 yard shot is unethical?  If someone is proficient at it and comfortable with it then there is nothing unethical about it at all.  I wouldn't take it because I don't feel comfortable at that range but for others that are more proficient at that range then there is nothing at all wrong about that shot.
 22. Shot two hogs with one shot Friday afternoon.  Totally unintentional but cool nonetheless.
 23.

I was all set to head up to the deer lease this afternoon, taking tomorrow off, but i've thrown up about 10 times since midnight.  curse word.  here's hoping i feel well enough to at least head that way in the morning.
That is terrible no matter what you were going to do. I would rather be at work, forced to work overtime and then go to the dentist than have a stomach virus.
Amen to that.  Hope you get to feeling better bullets.  Life is to short to have to miss hunting!
