Mogonigal reacted to PhatMack19 in 3 UCLA Basketball Players Arrested in China
3 Players arrested for shoplifting, including Lilangelo Ball, face 3-10 years in prison and a lengthy trial that could take months or maybe years.  China has almost a 100% conviction rate when people are indicted.

UCLA was in China to open their season against Georgia Tech.  So California legislator banned state funded travel to Texas, North Carolina, and 6 other states due to discriminatory bathroom laws, but they will pay to send teams Communist China?  Typical liberal hypocrisy.  At least the players won’t have to go to states where they can’t pee in whatever bathroom they choose.

If we are going to tear down statues all over the country, shouldn't the sidewalks in the Hollywood walk of fame have the dedications such as the one to Kevin Spacey, torn out?

That play wasn't football.  That wasn't "physical" play.  That is a kid trying to hurt a defenseless person.  Watch it again. He takes his time and waits until the QB has no clue and is completely unprepared.  Then he unloads on him.  This is in complete opposition of any kind of virtue or value that athletic competition provides.
These are kids and kids do dumb stuff sometimes.  I understand the context.  This was an athletic competition between two teams of kids.   As much as the coaches and fans talk about these games being a "battle" or a "war", they aren't.  That is your baby out there.  My baby.  Our babies.
My son is a physical DE.  He plays hard and has been flagged for late hits and a hit out-of-bounds.  Always trying to play hard football but sometimes he loses focus.  Hence the penalties.  I have never doubted he is trying to play football.  This hit isn't football.
But keep up that "head on a swivel" attitude.  Keep rationalizing cowardly behavior.  When football is pulled from the parks and schools because it is too dangerous and encourages unsavory behavior, it won't be the kids fault.  It will be ours.

I have been of the opinion also that this is not the medium to judge or accuse the kid.  His actions are on video to see and to pretend it didn't happen does nobody any favors.  I don't think I have seen anybody post anything threatening or disparaging to that young man personally.  There is an abundance of folks taking the high road here.  I don't know his name, I don't want to know his name.  God bless and good luck to the young man.  I can tell you care about this young man and don't want to see him crucified in this public medium.  I don't think that is happening.
However, the actions the school employees (coaches), administration, and the UIL take in regards to this incident is of interest to me and apparently many others.  Many on this board have relationships with these schools in many different ways.  This situation could have happened at any school (yes, your school too).
Is there a pattern of behavior or communication by the coaches encouraging this behavior?
Would a fifth official on the field made an impact on the behavior of the athletes during the game?
What action, if any, will the school system take in this situation?
I think these are valid questions to discuss and this is the appropriate forum for this discussion.  We are not contaminating any UIL or school district decisions by having a civil discussion about a real event.

I guess i had better backoff of my "tirade" and simply let such statements ,as the one in the heading of this post, be allowed to stand without question.  Kind of reminds me of how Charlottesville is the fault of only one side and nobody should question it.

Yes, both parties do have plenty.  I do have one more question for you regarding your "me thinks thou doth protest too much.  No, I am not asking if that is an original quote.  I am curious to know how one becomes qualified to quantify what is too little protesting vs too much protesting vs just the right amount of protesting?  Surely you are not a member of the "protest police"?

Of course, we shouldnt bring anything to the forefront that could suggest the possibility of culpability on any side but one.  I understand and will try to contain my opinions as we usher in the new era of tolerance, civility and mutual respect.  Qualities that a certain President regularly promoted..  ( Bottom line is the FACT that there is ignorance on both sides and some seem unwilling to acknowledge it)

It's is so very interesting that the Dems had the Presidency and both Houses in 2008 and were obviously elected by some really smart people.  Could one conclude that, during the 8 years of the Presidency of the "enlightened", the voters suddenly became dumber?  I can't imagine that happening while someone so very smart was in power- the  one who knows better- the only adult in the room- the visionary-the chosen one- yada yada yada- I know how  repulsive and unacceptable this question will be but I just have to ask.  Is it even remotely possible that some over estimate their intelligence/intellect?  Are they so firmly convinced that they, and only they, know what is best?  Could it be that the thoughts, ideas, and values of others ought to be considered rather than dismissed?  Wouldn't these questions fall into the category of tolerance and inclusiveness? Two areas that are allegedly the exclusive provenance of the left?

How did this happen if, as you infer,  the vast majority of the "smart" people are on the other side?  So smart that they lost over 1000 state legislative seats and both houses and the Presidency?

Pretty interesting perspective from one who might possibly be a fellow deplorable.  How dare you have the temerity to believe that your opinion could be as valid as someone on the left?  I can't help but wonder why this West Virginia circumstance was looked askance upon when Trump did not immediately denounce what happened.  If my memory is correct, when the Dallas Police officers were murdered, the President at the time was hailed as the voice of reason when he declared" Let's not rush to judgement. Let's wait for the facts"  But, since I am very willing to consider information broadcast by Fox, that immediately disqualifies me from having a valid opinion.  I guess I need to listen to Dan Rather and Brian Williams more often in an attempt to gain enlightened status.

I know there are many topics and news stories about the Silsbee Tiger basketball team......I just wanted to post my own "topic" on this forum because of how the Silsbee folks have been behind WOS 112% during the 3 year run at the football state championships. And also the 2015 baseball state championship. We might bicker and trash talk during the season but we're all SETX'ns. Silsbee just brought us ANOTHER State Championship to our little corner of Texas. Yeah, it might be  the Tigers first SC, but hopefully won't be the last. From a diehard Mustang.........GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!

Coach Davis is a great guy and does a fantastic job at HJ.  He puts in hours above and beyond for the benefit of the kids.
Lazeek is correct re:  Carpenter.  He is back at WB due to a family situation.  That is a great family that has been through a lot in the last year or so with an illness and I know them well. They absolutely love Clay.
I don't know much about Moreaux.  To be honest, I knew more about him in football and knew he didn't play basketball, at least last year.   As far as the other kid goes, I can only tell you if the family has an issue with Coach Davis, you can add him to a long list of coaches to which that would apply.

Is there a problem with Coach Davis because all of the kids that have left , the parents and players seem to have a problem with him
Might make sure you have all your facts straight on why kids leave a school.  Moreaux didnt even play last year and his reasons for leaving were completely non sports related. Carpenter went back to WB because of a family situation.. Anyone who knows that family knows what is going on and knows that there is nothing but respect for Coach Davis. That leaves one that left for reasons mentioned earlier and that has been well documented already and no need to re-hash it.

no idea whether that applies to HS.  I think he went to Marshall.  I know he was voted team MVP on his 8th grade team.  Name is Clayton Carpenter.  Great kid from a great family.  Like you mentioned, a year of JV ball will probably benefit him in the long run.  Never hurts to boost confidence and HJ has a lot returning.   Regardless, I can assure Hawk fans you will enjoy this kid's time at HJ in every aspect.  And none more than Coach Davis.  This kid is very coachable with a great attitude.  And never hurts to have something you can't coach - height.  And plenty of it.
