1. Two years ago, the Troup Tigers boys basketball team didn't win a game. Last season, they were 6-21. This time around, under the new direction of 1985 Troup alum Darin Harley, the Tigers are 24-7 and outright district 15-3A champions. [Hidden Content]
2. Congratulations to former LCM boys basketball coach Darin Harley on a district championship. He is back at his alma mater Troup High School and in only his first year his team clinches the district championship. Great win for a good man. [Hidden Content]
3. Per kogt website: UIL District 22-4A Executive Committee met Friday, February 10, 2017 to consider moving the venue for tonight’s boys’ basketball game between Silsbee HS and West Orange-Stark HS. A safety plan has been developed and will be implemented. Therefore, the committee voted unanimously to keep the game at West Orange-Stark as originally scheduled. Silsbee ISD and West Orange-Stark CISD were required abstentions for the single action item discussed. It is the committee’s hope that true sportsmanship will be displayed according the guidance set forth by UIL-Austin as stated below: Regardless of the outcome of tonight’s game, all of the players have proven their willingness to work and sacrifice in order to achieve athletic excellence. We ask that as a spectator, you consider the time and effort each of these teams, coaches, and athletes have put forth. Cheer these young athletes, applaud them, but do not, through any of your actions, cause them to doubt the value of athletics. By your conduct, allow these young people to feel pride in their communities and school. While your sportsmanlike actions may play only a small part in the outcome of this game, it will play a greater role in continuing to encourage competitive athletics. We also ask that you show your appreciation for the students who will be taking part indirectly in tonight’s game–the cheerleaders, the bands, the pep squad, and the students who have supported their teams at home and away. These young people play an integral part in their team’s success. The officials for this game have been mutually agreed upon by school officials for both schools. Their role is not unlike those of players, coaches, teachers, and school administrators. Without them this game would not be possible. Their knowledge and application of the rules are a result of annual testing, years of study, and continual participation in clinics that further refine their understanding of the game. We ask you, as students, parents, and citizens, to demonstrate the kind of respect for these officials you would extend to any dedicated person in a position of responsibility. This means that you as a fan: 1) Should not criticize the players on either team, 2) Should not boo the officials, 3) Should not have alcoholic beverages on public school grounds since it is a violation of state law, 4) Should be courteous to the visiting fans, 5) Should cheer for your team, and 6) Should show respect for injured players on both teams.
4. what is the official tip off for the game tonight? i know it was said the jv game was moved to Saturday so I am just checking.
5. beaumont enterprise reporting that for the wos silsbee game tomorrow that home and visitor fans will have separate parking, entrances, concessions and restrooms. there is only one bathroom for men and one for women in the lobby. Not sure how they plan to separate that.
6. I put it in this thread because i noticed the lcm / silsbee thread was locked earlier today... and now the conversation regarding penalties is now discussed in this silsbee/wos thread.
7. I have no idea who "owns" this site.... i am just a casual reader. I do not understand the frequency of "locking a thread". Don't you want traffic to your website? I have seen threads "locked" when nothing offensive or derogatory is being said. A moderator apparently decides enough has been said on a given subject and then shuts it down. can someone given insight into why you would want to limit traffic to your website?
8. can this round of the playoffs spill over into saturday? or does the winner have to be determined by the end of the day Friday? I have heard both.
9. actually two district champs... dont forget huffman
10. Coaches are competitive by nature...  They love to win. How many times have we seen a "star player" get disciplined for one reason or another... But the coach find a way to have the discipline handed out NOT interfere with the "big game".  And if you ask the coaches, I would be willing to bet, MANY times coaches play a kid they don't like, simply because the kid has talent.  I will go out on a limb and say 99.99% of the time, coaches are gonna have the most talented players on the field simply because THEY WANT TO WIN.  It's in their coaching DNA.
11. I was at the game last night ...  early in the game it very obvious the png qb was ineffective.  maybe just a bad night.  I felt bad for the kid. He played the entire game...  does png not have any other athlete that could have played qb?
12. From kogt.com: Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD Athletic Director, Randy Crouch, has announced that Ricky Ryan, currently LCM CISD’s Secondary Math Specialist and math teacher, will lead the Lady Bears Basketball Team for the next school year. Ryan, who just completed his thirty-second year as a professional educator, has a long successful career as a basketball coach as well as math teacher in Southeast Texas. Coach Ryan has served stints teaching and coaching at Bridge City and West Orange-Stark high schools, he was a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball team at Lamar University, assistant coach for the women’s team at the University of Houston, head women’s coach at San Jacinto Junior College, and head coach at WOS from 1999 through 2005. He taught math at Orangefield High School and Lamar State College - Orange, and directed teacher quality grants at LSC-O prior to joining the LCM CISD faculty in May 2007 as Secondary Math Specialist and continued to teach as well as work to improve mathematics instruction by working with curriculum, assessments, teachers, and students. As a head coach he had successful teams that compiled 168 wins while losing only 95. According to Ryan, “I was fortunate enough to coach two district champions, two regional runner ups, 1 state semifinalist, and I state finalist. I was blessed to have several very talented and dedicated players while at WOS; Tonya Dove, Jojuanna Rogers, and Pam Anderson, who all extended their basketball careers in college, and Travessa Gant who was both a high school and college All-America and played in the WNBA and overseas professionally.” When discussing his decision to put Ryan in the head coach position, Coach Crouch said, “Ricky has a vast amount of experience as a teacher in both the classroom and on the basketball court. His maturity and class along with his teaching wisdom will carry great weight on and off the court, as it does in the classroom, and this will be a valuable asset to our girls’ basketball program. Mr. Ryan’s knowledge and desire to help young people will enhance LCM basketball on a daily basis and will greatly benefit our young women’s future walk on the “court” of life.” According to Ryan, “The LCM community has always had a love for girls’ basketball. I plan to work hard to help the girls reach their potential and exceed their expectations. It will take everyone working together, players, coaches, parents, administration, and fans to us reach these goals.’

14. I love watching kids that are not only talented but hustle and work their tail off on the court... I don't know the kids name and have never seen him play;  But the Lumberton point guard is a player... And fun to watch.  Good game and great effort son. A bear fan
15. As an Lcm fan at the game last night, I will say I and many around me were embarrassed by the select FEW fans hollering out for png players to take a knee. I will say to the best of my memory, it seems like most teams I have seen will be silent and take a knee when it APPEARS to be a serious injury.  That was the case last night.  The collision occurred on the Lcm sideline and we had the best view of what appeared to be a very serious injury.  I believe that is what added fuel to the fire.  It had the appearance of a serious injury ( remember last year the orange community had to witness a players death on the sideline ) and it seemed disrespectful to the LCM community that on the png sideline the coaches and players were preparing for the next play while this LCM player layed almost motionless on the field.  All that being said, I doubt the png players/coaches saw how violent the collision was.  And, regardless, the booing from the lcm fans and the hollering to "take a knee" was ( in my opinion ) classless.  When your getting your "arse" kicked...  show class.  Tip your hat and work you "arse" off to go get 'em next year. I may also add I have no problem with a winning team allowing their second and third string to score REGARDLESS of the score.  If you don't like it, then stop them.  Those kids deserve that chance to showcase their skills as well... and many of those kids never get a chance. If I'm losing, the last thing I want is the winning team to "lay down" for me...  give me your best for four full quarters... and let my team do the same. Good luck to the indians from here on out... I envy the support your community shows for your team.  God bless. A bear fan, jf
