I doubt that any WOS team has EVER given up those kinds of yards. The big question is, is WOS that bad this year, or is Hunt that good. I think Hunt is just that good. In Jasper's first five games nobody came close to shutting him down, and WOS didn't do much better than the first five teams. If you have not been following the Jasper-WOS thread Hunt had on his first six carries 3 TDs and over 200 yards. Hunt didn't have three hundred plus yards in the earlier games because he sat on the bench after the half as far as I know. Unless Silsbee has a RB like Hunt (and few teams ever do) then Tigers better be ready for a slobberknocker football game. WOS is still a good and dangerous team even if perhaps they are not at their usual level. Don't know about Silsbee. Wouldn't try to pick a winner. Good luck to both teams and may the ball bounce well for you.

This belongs in its own thread perhaps, but a friend volunteered this the other day. She said she was born in the USA so she considers herself black. She said that if she had been born in Africa, then she would accept the term African-American. That seems reasonable to me.

Good post. From where I sat (Jasper's side of course) Jasper was much more than a one trick pony. Somebody was doing some good blocking to spring Hunt loose. And as for speed and size, WOS was indeed very good. Jasper was just faster, and bigger just judging that only a few times did WOS chase any Jasper player down once they cleared the secondary. Even when Jasper recovered the ball on the 2 point attempt, no WOS player even came close to chasing down the Jasper player as he scooted to the end zone. On the other hand Jasper in most cases seemed to usually chase down the WOS players. And at the seven minute mark in the fourth quarter, Jasper didn't even try to use their speed, they just went on a smash mouth up the gut running drive of some 80 yards to kill off the clock. I would not call that a one trick pony. But that was only last night. It is a foregone conclusion that WOS will get even better and I think that anyone that has to play them in district better bring their "A" game. And honestly I hope that if both teams make the playoffs I hope they go in different brackets. I hate to see Jasper have to play any team twice in the same season. Still ticked off about 1986! Just joking. A little bit anyway.

WOS will get good for Jasper. Always have. Don't expect this year to be any different.

Clearly not the LaMarque of old; or Jasper is much better than I expected. Or some combination of each.

Unless it has changed, I think the AP poll is sports writers across the state, from big cities. They do not often have a clue. Remember one year Jasper had an athlete ranked 7th best senior in the USA by RIVALS. But was not picked at all on AP all-state teams. No credibility at all in my mind for the AP at least as relates to small schools.

Hup, I didn't want to call out Cleveland! They may still want a payback! Coach W must have been mad about something....

Per the Jasper announcers, Jasper putting up 70+ points is rather rare. But I remember in the early Walkoviak years Jasper put up 81 on somebody if I remember correctly.

I am kind of surprised that Jasper did handle Livingston with a bit of ease. But the Jasper announcers applauded how Livingston never quit playing hard. Jasper did have many reserves in at least for most of the second half. And from 6 to 7 minutes left in the game they let the clock run. Livingston, you should be much better next year.

Perhaps. Have to see it to believe it. Livingston has generally been tough for Jasper. Regardless of record, I expect Livingston will be up for this game.

I was not at the game so I have no idea. But I did listen to both games. LCM did much better in the first quarter for sure. -
Congrats BC. Way to bounce back.

WOS will be ready by the time they get to Jasper in October. They always are!

Congrats Jasper. Good luck to LCM in the future. -
You are probably right. Jasper has not had great success at Disch Falk. Hope this is the break through year. Like it was at Dell in 2007. Almost the same scenario. Jasper had the worst record of the four teams. Basically put a good Southeast Texas whupping on both teams they played. Scored 25 runs and stole some 20 bases. On paper Jasper does not have much of a chance against Argyle, but that I am confident they will show up for the game ready to play ball. Might be another upset year. Go Dogs!
-
I expect that you are correct. That is how it was done in the past as I remember. Best record against the worst record. Then by default the other two teams play. In each case the team with the best record is the home team. Anyone have any better information?

Salado 10 Jasper 1/Gm1-FINAL/Salado leads series 1-0

Considering that Jasper never matched the 3 runs that the first pitcher gave up, in retrospect it looks like a good idea to save the pitcher for Saturday. In the past Jasper has won the first game big, then lost the next two games. And vice versa. So games on for Saturday! go Dogs! -

Go Jasper Dogs!!! -
Don't know a thing about either team, but pulling for the Kirbyville Cats!
-
True, Jasper's power throwing pitching "Ace" was limited to playing shortstop. But the other two starters more than picked up the slack Of course Jasper scoring 25 runs in two games didn't hurt...

I have only seen this Jasper team once. If the one game is somewhat representative of this squad I would say the huge difference between 2018 and 2007 was the 2007 team aggressiveness on the base paths. Then Jasper had runners that literally would sometimes steal all the way to home. Walk to first, steal second, steal third, and then steal home. I have never personally seen anyone else do that. And Taylor Hart did it against a very good Bridge City catcher. Of course, every team has its own personality, and clearly the 2018 Dogs have their own ways to win games.

Hope to see you there!
