EAST CHAMBERS VS. TATUM BROADCAST/TATUM ADVANCES 45-7
purpleeagle replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Went and watched this one. Did not know Tatum was this good. Overstreet is the real deal. I have watched Crockett and Tatum both play and this should be a great match up (assuming Crockett wins). Both have good size with outstanding QB's. Hope someone will post the place and time for that game. Best of luck EC, you had a good year. -
UIL Looks at CROCKETT vs NEWTON
purpleeagle replied to Claude's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Newton coach told me yesterday evening that nothing was going to come of the investigation. It seems to me that if the investigation is being done from "in house" that the matter had already been looked into by the school (prior to the Newton game) and found the players elgible to play. Seems to me like the next decision by the same school would produce the same results. but come next year "WE SHALL RETURN"...... good year Eagles, good luck E. Chambers for you now carry the banner for this district. -
This Newton boy is pulling for you. Should have no problem with Malakoff, they played a weak schedule except for Crockett.

Buna wins by 28. Buna may just be the second place team in district 10 2a.

WO-S will probably have as many touchdowns as Kirbyville has first downs. Sorry Kats, hope I am wrong, but I have seen WO-S defense and K'Ville will have a lot of three and outs.

BUNA VS. NEWTON BROADCAST/Newton wins!

Newton's running back, Kevin Shorter, will probably be out for another two games . He told me last night that he should be back for homecoming. That means he misses E.C. and Woodville games. Buna has a good team and should make the playoffs. Good luck Buna for the rest of the season. -
Kats win this one. Good luck K'ville.

Buna vs Newton? Who leaves with the "W"
purpleeagle replied to buna3242's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Will be a lot closer with Newton's star running back out. Newton 42 Buna 7 -
Championeagles, I think the 3 point game with Silsbee missing the field goal as time run out was year before last in Silsbee. It was not that close last year in Newton.

NEWTON VS. KIRBYVILLE BROADCAST/Newton wins!
purpleeagle replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Kirbyville played hard. Good luck throughout the rest of the season Kirbyville. -
Vidor sneaked by a fairly weak team in Tx High. The only reason that Tx High was picked 3rd in their district is because they were two pretty good teams and then a bunch of weak teams. They were a 6 - 5 team last year that lost most of their starters, 8 on offence and 7 on defence. Bridge City 34 Vidor 20.

Thursday night, game conditions. Crockett scored on 80 yd run the first play. Newton received the kickoff and turned the ball over on the third play and Crockett scored about 5 plays later. Newton made adjustments. Very even game. Crockett has a huge line. Final score Newton 14 Crockett 13.

Can't just blame the coaches. Hemphill had about half as many kids suited up as Newton did. The have to want to play first. It is going to take a little time for Hemphill to get their program back. Something has to motivate the kids to get them out to play. Hemphill did not look all that bad. They have a pretty good qb and a fast running back. They will be better this year than they were last year. It takes a few years to get a program back on track. Hemphill was once a very good 2a team and I hope they will get their program back on track. There was nothing wrong with the coach that they had last year, we have him at Newton now and are proud to have him.

Newton's offence seemed to do what ever they wanted. The Dean kid looked good at QB which should let Holmes remain on defence. The defence made some mistakes. Newton is learning a new defence and that should improve over time. Newton dominated the scrimmage but the real test comes the next two scrimmages when they meet Coldsprings and Crockett. The J.V. was outstanding scoring 10 time to Hemphill's one first down.

Newton Football Begins New Era
purpleeagle replied to ChampionEagles's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Best of luck W.T. W.T. has assembled an outstanding coaching staff. Several coaches have previously been head coaches and if you have the previledge of being around them, you will find an outstanding group of Christian men that you would want your kids to be around. -

Former area coach, now senior pastor
purpleeagle replied to bigred360's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
There is nothing no greater than serving the Lord. I would bet that even while coaching that he had a good impact upon the players. Coach Barbay had a tradition before each game, they neil down on their knees and the team resites the Lord's prayer. A tradition that I think will probably continue with coach W.T. because he to, like Barbay, is a Christian. Congratulations Pastor/coach Rose. -
Well said ChampionEagles, we have one of the best coaching staffs in 2A football. Trevor moving back to linebacker will be a big difference in our defense. Our line will still be undersized. I think this will be a team that will get better as the year go on. Have not heard if we got any transfers from other school or not. Remembering that the 8th grade kids will now be on the soph or JV team and some of them may be skilled enough to play varsity but I suspect that they will be another year away. This is the bunch of kids (undefeated since pee wee football) that Coach Barbay told me was the best looking group of kids coming up that he has ever had at Newton. The future is looking bright in Newton football if our school does not keep losing players. At the rate we are losing kids we may be down to class A football in a few years.
