The game was at Woden. Newton played bad, neumerous turnovers and missed neumerous shots from 4 feet in. Newton took the last shot in regulation with the game tied and missed four shots at the buzzer. Newton led by 5 with a short time left in the first OT then Newton turned the ball over twice letting Woden tie the game again. Give credit to Woden, they came out to play. Woden has a good team. I think their district record would be 6-2. Newton is now 7-1. Should be a good finish in this district. I think Woodville had 3 loses before last night. C-Camden had 2 loses before last night. Newton still has Central Heights at home this Friday and they have to go to Woodville and still have to play C-Camden at home. Could get interesting.

Newton (phi slama jama) looked pretty good. Newton's center got into foul trouble early and did not play most of the game. Newton is half way through district and 7-0. It will be a tough second half, a lot of good teams in this district. C-Camden, Woodville, Wooden and Central Heights are all good teams. Shelbyville has a real good sophmore at center. This district will be well represented.

Burkeville High School gym. Similar to Evdale's gym but a little larger. Stadium seating both sides, maple hardwood floor. Large entry area, snack bar with see through windows and seating, neumerous dressing rooms. Recently built with a price tag of 3 million. Zavala also has a good gym.

We could'n buy a basket, but neither could C-Camden. Hope we got the bad game out of our system. C-Camden is a good team. We have a strong district this year and this will help whoever goes to the playoffs.

Harper left Burkeville and that program may never be the same. PNG has never been the same since Ethridge left. Hooks, Ethridge, Harper, and Barbay are proven WINNERS. Wow, Deweyville is not in the same class with Buna. Reality finally hits Deweyville after starting 4-0 against a weak schedule, Vinton, Evadale, High Island and Burkeville. If you want to soar with Eagles(Cougars in this case) you have to start playing quality teams in preseason, even if you lose. As Earl Pitts would say, " WAKE UP AMERICA".

Gosh, could this be an indication that Kirbyville might not win state this year. It wasn't the bad pep talk at halftime that did Kville in, it was that team with the WO-S wrote on their helment.
