Hope you heard right about W.T.Johnston. Hope Newton worked out something with him to stay.-- W.T. Johnston is a top notch coach and a top notch person. He will definately be a head coach and Ath. director somewhere soon. He is just to good to stay an assistant.

Shelbyville was a game team both times Newton played them. Should be a good game but Shelbyville is capable of winning. Newton beat them 10 points on Newtons home court. Both games were very close and competative. Should be a good game.

Coach Northup told me last night that the time and location would be determined Sunday. Shooting for Angelina College and possible tuesday night. Nothing definate until Sunday.

Jaspers next head coach will come from a county adjoining Jasper county. A county on the east side of Jasper. The rumor is that this man is being pushed by Brooks and has been told the job is his. what a game. both teams were 4-0 in district. S. Aug. led by 10 points late in the 4th quarter. Newton came back to cut it to 4 points with about 2 1/2 min. to play and S. Aug. went back up by 9 with about 2 min. to go. Newton cut the lead to 4 points with less than a min. to play and then stole the ball and made two points and was fouled with about 17 seconds left. Newton missed the free throw but got the rebound and tied the game with 17 seconds. S. Aug drove the length of the floor and made a layup but it did not count because of a charging call. Newton had 7 seconds left and drove the the length of the court and scored with one second left to win the game 66-64. What a game.

It just might be that the one they want will be added to the list. My guess is HC/WB

Newton will reload, could be better next year. If we stay healthy we will make a run at the state title. Injuries hurt us at the end of the year when we were peaking out. Offense should be as good or better and the defense should be a little better also. Had a JV team that was undeafeted and some size coming up with enough skill players coming back from the varsity to make next year a good one.

Newton's QB (Flannigan) had surgery on knee 12-09-08 and now faces 9 months of rehab.

Arp will put up a good game but not enough pass defense to keep up with k-ville. The team to watch in this bracket is Rice Cons. They have a running back that is very outstanding. I think K-ville will take them to but should be a good game. Go Cats, Go Mustangs, Go Eagles.

Don't sell Franklin short. They eliminated traditional playoff team such as Teague and Marlin. They are a running team that can control the clock .
