  1. Just a real hot shooting night for the Warren girls. Tiffany Weise hit for 39 points, and Christen Lee and Brandy Burnes were also in double figures. If I am not mistaken, all of the roster played at least some, in every quarter. The Lady Warriors finish the first half of district at 4 and 2.
  2. To address an earlier post, I don't think that point guard is the problem. He is quick and capable of moving the ball to Sims, Andrews, and other positions. The real problem has been the inability of the entire team to handle smothering presses, something that this team has been well coached on and should be good at. When a press is put on, it is common knowledge that the point guard is not going to blow past 2 and 3 defenders, but must make the pass to a cutter or drop down teammate, who then accepts the responsibility from the point to make the secondary pass, possibly even a third pass to split the defense quickly before pressing defenders return to position. THIS IS NOT HAPPENING !!!! Whether its the 1st, 2nd or 3rd pass, turnovers are being committed, and thus denying Paul Sims and Matt Andrews from taking their shots. This is the area where the whole team has got to make a committment to step up, and play the game they are capable of. One other area that I hate to even mention is the officiating crews continuing to allow handchecking, bumps, hacks, pushes, etc. by the pressing teams. This forces the offensive team to have to make further adjustments to accomodate the forgiving of those FOULS that are not called. My apologies to the very few crews that make these calls. Nuff said !!!! I still think Warren can be a playoff team, but its up to them. They have the coaching and the talent. We'll See.
  3. I think it was Anahuac 52 Warren 40. Warren had way too many turnovers in the first half, and were already down by 20. They (Lady Warriors) brought the score down in the 2nd half but they had dug themselves too deep a hole to come back. Lady Panthers executed well, made their free throws, and had good ball movement. Very impressive point guard ran their offense which had balanced scoring. Tiffany Weise and Christen Lee each had 14 for the Lady Warriors.
  4. Paul Sims - Warren (Excellent Technique) Very capable of a 40 point game !!!!
  5. These rankings look pretty close to me Cat22, but from here on out to Feb. there will be a lot of changing places, and shuffling in and out of the top 15. I know of at least 2 teams that are right on the edge of entering this group, and possibly a couple of others. Will be fun to watch.
  6. Very Impressive win for the Spurger Girls. Good Job!!!!!!!!
  7. This does not surprise me. I have said all along that Kountze is an extremely talented and well coached team, so this just supports my position. Congratulations from all of us in 24 2A on your performance against a 5A team.
  8. At this time, I see Kountze, Warren, and EC, but any the others could sneak in and grab a spot. I agree with whsalum, that the key is, who can win on the road. This may be the most competitive district (From top to bottom) in SETX.
  9. Glad to see Kountze move up. Very talented team and very well coached.
  10. I agree 100% warfan!!! For the most part, in games that I have seen recently, a team that has a good press is forgiven bumps, pushes, slaps, and especially hand checks. To be real clear, allowing hand checking is allowing a constant pushing foul. I saw a crew at the Evadale Tournament, that absolutely supported the rule, blew the whistle on every check on both teams press, and I really admired them.
  11. Kountze is a very good, and well coached team. They have speed, an absolutely smothering press, and they all shoot well. My personal feeling is that they will go very deep into the playoffs, possibly to Austin.
  12. As one of the above posts said, this was an extremely physical and hard fought game. EC up after the 1st, Warren by 12 at half, EC up after 3, and leading most of the 4th, and Warren coming back for the win. Huge stat was Warren hitting about 70% of their free throws, to the Bucs around 30%. Once again, lots of girls hitting the floor and scrapping for the ball. Just plain lots of hustle by both teams. The Lady Warriors were lead by Tiffany Weise 14, Christen Lee 13, and Brandi Burnes 10. The Bucs were led by C. Thomas with 16. Both coaches used multiple rotations and made many adjustments. New Coach, Sherrie Broocks of Warren has been very impressive in her leadership of this group.
  13. The duck hunting on dam B has been hit or miss. As of two weeks ago, there was heavy hunting pressure on both sides, scattering the few ducks there. Hoping for better numbers, but doubting that it will happen. Lots of rain in the Mid West and lack of cold will hold the birds right where they are. Some Arkansas hunting lodges are suffering also. That tells you how far north the ducks actually are.
  14. Newton looks really solid!!!!!!! Lots of hustle, press was smothering, and Addison Staley was awesome. FG percentage had to be way up there. Warren at 4 and 3 now, can play a lot better, but did not show it today. No emotion, no ball movement, no defense, no shot selection, usually spells NO WIN. Coach tried different looks and combinations on the floor, but it just wasn't going to happen today. Give Newton a lot of credit. They really got after it!!!!
  15. Exciting game and another great performance from the Warren "Pep" band. A ton of compliments from the fans of both teams. Big thanks to Warren Band Director Russell Hopkins and his very talented band.
  16. Warren jumped out to an early lead, and led by as much as 19. Spurger rallied in the 4th and cut it to 6, before the Lady Warriors regained the momentom, and won by 10. Tiffany Weise scored 17, Courtney Ellis 12, Brandi Burnes 9 for the Lady Warriors, and Kyrston Denmon had 14 for Spurger.
  17. This is just going to be an excellent game. My prediction is Warren will win this one by about 5. (65-60) sounds about right. Can't wait to watch it!!!!!!
  18. This will be a great tourney to watch. Just about all of the teams entered are a threat to win it.
  19. Great job Warriors, another extremely well rounded and solid effort. This team is really playing with confidence and getting better with each outing. Keep it up!!!!!!!!
  20. The last I heard was approx. 4:30 PM (Freshmen and JV are also playing) and they did start very early this afternoon.
  21. Great job guys !!! With a little tweaking on the boards, this will be one solid team. Saw lots of energy and hustle, and a good knowledge of Coach Carters system. Very Impressive!!!! And, A super job by Hoppy's band in the corner.
  22. A little strong there GURU, they (The dawgs) may match up a little better with the returnees, but "easily" take the Warriors down, NOT A CHANCE !!!!!!!!
  23. Orangefield by 15. It could be closer if Nederland is hitting their 3's.
