1. Sports reporter gives his opinion.... The article published states:  The final TABC poll for the 2009-2010 basketball season was released this past week. The Spurger Pirates who were one of only four teams to play in Austin were ranked ninth behind teams who could have and some who were expected to be there but weren't. I'm not sure if this was blatant sign of disrespect or ignorance on the part of the coaches who take part. The Pirates though had many people in their corner willing to stand up and voice their opinion on the issue especially on www.setxsports.com. One of those writers whom I have to agree is known as Rebel Yeller. "The final poll is a no brainer." It should be the state champion as number one, the state runner-up as number two and the semi-finalists as three and four. I think most readers could understand if this was a preseason poll for the 2010-2011 season but it wasn't. The voters definitely got this poll wrong.    One thing the voters did not get wrong was the announcement of DANIEL BLANKENSHIP as a member of the All-State Division 1A team. The Pirates have plenty to replace his points but do they have enough to replace his leadership on the defensive. Hats off also to GEORGE WHITTAKER who along with BLANKENSHIP were named to the All-Region team. One obvious athlete missing from this group though is junior point guard CHASE McGALLION. How do you leave off a player who is ranked number 167 out of 500 point guards in the entire nation and number 23 in the state of Texas. Twelve of those ranked ahead of McGALLION in assists played more games than him. A 6.5 assists per game is a statistic worth nothing.
 2. Thanks to everyone that have showed respect & support for The Spurger Pirates
 3.
time for alot of spurger fans to eat crow, spurger never really had a chance to beat cayuga. however locals are often blinded by the facts and think with their heart. spurger had a really good season, but they had no chance against cayuga.
How dare you say this! Spurger fans can see very well. And I, as a fan, sum it up this way...... 1. My "local" team made it to Austin, where is your Beaumont team? 2. These boys have worked very hard all season long. The proof is making it to the drum. 3. This was the first time ever for Spurger to be in the state tourney. So they have made history for our small Spurger town. 4. This is the 3rd year straight they have made the playoffs, 08' lost out in the Regional Championship against Big Sandy. 09' lost out in Regional Quarters by 1 to Bremond. And now this year made it to state. One of the last "four" 1A-1 teams left playing in Texas. Their losing two key senior players this year, that will be truely missed. The Pirates next year will be returning Coach Isaacs, 4 seniors, 1 junior, 2 sophmore & adding a senior that had taken a year off. They also will be moved down to 1A-2 & already have their goals set high for next year. 5. HEART, what's wrong with that? Looks like to me that you need to show you have one. VERY PROUD TO BE CALLED A SPURGER PIRATE FAN. CONGRATS TEAM ISAACS! KEEP YOUR HEADS UP! CONTINUE TO PLAY WITH THAT, CLASS, HEART, & DETERMINATION THAT YOU BRING TO THE COURT & ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE...
 4. Wow!!! Great game... Congrats Coach Isaacs & The Spurger Pirates (district record 5-0) [move]1st PLACE[/move] [move]1st HALF DISTRICT SCHEDULE[/move]
 5. Spurger Jrs., Chase McGallion & George Whittaker

 7. Spurger by 30 Message to the HI coaches: Spurger doesn't use a running clock when the game becomes a blow out. I have witnessed this twice in HI, both in Jr. high games w/ Spurger. One last week w/ the Jr. girls & one when this Boys Varsity team was in Jr. high.
 8.
I totally concur with you on this issue.  In fact, I was at the Spurger-Sabine Pass game last Friday.  I could not believe what I was hearing.  One fan from Spurger called a fan from SP, using the "N" word.  This is not a reflection on Spurger's community as a whole.  However, there is no place for such a behavior.  It is beyond reprehensible and it is not something that we want kids to emulate.  The fan from SP that the young oiler was referring to, in my opinion, should be banned from future sporting events.  I hope the school does smoething about it.
This is an out right lie about this Spurger fan. I know the Spurger fan your speaking of & he wound never use the "N" word. He would also not ever speak to a player in a negative way (they're kids). Now on the other hand he will and does give the refs. HE!!. And they did deserve it on that call!!!!!! Chase McGallion received a out right dropped shoulder to the nose & knocked flat on the floor. He told me after the game, when I asked him how he was. He said, when I came to the first thing I saw was the score board that said FOULS #10-1. "They gave me the foul?" He got the foul, a bloody swollen nose, and black eye the next day, but still had a heck of a game!!!!! AND yes this totally pi$$ed the Spurger fan off. But again I can guarantee he would never use the "N" word. You can ask anyone that knows him.
 9. Sr., Hutto was released by doctor, didn't start, but got some minutes of playing time. Freshman McLeod out sick. Sr., Blankenship & a HD player collided face to face, both had to come out to stop the bleeding. Blankenship with a cut to outer mid-nose area & the HD player w/ Lt. eyebrow cut. Both returned to the game. The Pirates was mixed up alot & bench got alot of playing time. Shockingly no one got in foul trouble. All in all the Pirates played a good game. Can someone post some stats? Congrats Coach Isaacs & the Pirates ;)
 10.
Spurger is a perfict example of a school that only playes one sport. They play backetball just about year around and it showes.  This realy showes early in the season when teams are adjusting from football to basketball. I am glad to see them having another good year and I hope this is the year to see them in the State Tour. I have watch this group play sence they were 10 yearsold , glad to see the hard work that they have put in start paying off.
HOW BOUT----Whittaker, McGallion (TOGETHER) have played Little Dribblers since 5 years old (playing up on the older age groups alot) Rawls joined a few years later, then Blankenship. Same knowledgable Little Dribblers coach from get go that taught them fundamentals & straight up how to play the game. All of them are athletic & very determined young men. One young man has not played this year, but may be joining them in the near future. He, Whittaker, McGallion, Rawls are 4 of the that placed 2nd in the Little Dribblers Tournament 3 years ago. AND now the Pirates have a GREAT COACH, that lets them play the game. The pirates respect him, he respects them & their rolling on.

So you think the point guard( i think her name is mindy) isnt good on defense? is that what you disagree about?
I never said that she was bad at anything and here name is spelt Mindi.
o ok sorry then, thats is just what it sounded like.
IMOP and mine only,Mindi is good on def and ok driving the lane at times just to many turn overs. The hollier girl needs to learn how to be a team player, she shows signs of being agood player at times and then at times wont give up the ball when needed. The best player that spurger has right now is the means girl. And the best two hustlers they have are the little hatton & the rich girls. I agree with court side Kelsey Sheffield going to the bright spot for spurger in the next couple of years, passes well, shoots ok(will get better) and handles the ball better than any body on the team right now as a freshman. Needs more playing time to learn to make the right choices.
 12.
MCL injury is a stretch, partial tear,or complete tear of the lighment on the inside of the knee.
Most MCL injuries you can play with a brace. My daughter had this and played in a brace and still uses it to day. I think its all in how much discomfort the kid can stand. It allso depends on if its a tear or dislocated knee cap.
 13. Alot of playing time for the younger guys and a few to many turnovers. A sloppy game with not very good def, by either team. The refs came out at halftime and was whistle happy. I hate when they let them play a good physical game first half and come out second half and call everthing that was ok the first half. Don't get me wrong it wasn't one sided, it was like that for both clubs. 3rd time I've seen Goodrich and seems they get a little better each time. Whittaker -20 Mcgallion -17 lead the team tonight. Good to see Blankenship with the team (not playing) but with the team. Congrats Pirates ;D ;D
