Not in my opinion, but people seem to see rivalries where none exist.  When I was in Vidor, the Pirate faithful would've been happy with a 1-9 season if that one victory was over Ned, but that didn't make it a rivalry, especially not for Ned, who beats Vidor 9 out of 10 times.
This appears to be the first real test for WOS.  I expect a tough, hard hitting contest, albeit, not close.  That said, my prediction is WOS 24 Silsbee 6.

WOS will come into Silsbee with a great deal of confidence, as they should because they are a very good team which comes from an exceptional program. Silsbee does not have the program WOS has built but I feel it is desired. Coach seems to have the expectations and work ethic to grow such a program. In my humble opinion this is not the same Tigers of old. We will see what comes it Friday night! Best of luck to both teams.

WO-S just took the #1 current spot in the state with 28 in a row after Bremond lost tonight snapping a 49 game run.  I believe this is the first time since Hull-Daisetta set a national record back in the 1930's that a local team has held that spot. Aledo, Gunter and DeSoto are tied behind us at 19 wins. Plano kept WO-S out of #1 during the streak from 1986-1988.

What about spotting you guys 13 points before the 10 minute mark of the 1st Q? Those two fumbles were gifts, nothing created by Crosby. It seems you want to overlook that part of the game.
Also, Jasper went for it on 4th and 3 from their own 20. Resulted in a FG for Crosby. IMO, that's 16 points "gifted" to you guys and you won by 6.
Paint it as pretty as you need. Fact is, Crosby not as good as you want them to be.

Good list, but I think you need to add 2003 North Shore ..Thats a team that was very underrated and is probably one of the best as far as talent and coaching

Really hard to make a good comparison on these. You simply can't ignore the pre and post Spread Offense asterisk. What Daingerfield and Yates did (IMO Carter isn't even in this convo) is unreal. But a team in the Spread era giving up less than a TD a game is equally impressive.

I believe Katy in 2015 only gave up about 4pts a game and had 10 shutouts. Your right though spread offenses have changed what it means to shut a team down. I think holding a team scoreless in this era is much more difficult.

If remember right didn't Bay City have Gold Medalist Joe DeLoach and the number one prospect in the nation and a future 1st round pick Hart Lee Dykes on that team.

    Meh...
i went on a rant on Twitter last night but I believe all three were overhyped.  That's not the same as saying they weren't great but they all have a built up media aura around them that just wasn't true.
Look up what Bay City did in 1983.  They won 4A that year, not Carthage and I'd have put money on Bay City if they had faced Daingerfield.  The Permian team Carter beat in 1988 lost 3 games and Carter wouldn't have even qualified for the playoffs had it been 7 years earlier.  WOS played that 1985 Yates team in the 3rd round of the playoffs in the Astrodome as one of the smallest 5A teams in the state (we dropped to 4A the next year) and WOS was winning that game deep into the 4th Quarter until Yates got two very late TDs to win 19-6.  I was at that game as a Junior in high school.

In answer to the original thread question: Yates over Carter no question.

I'd put 2003 North Shore over both of them.  Only one team scored more than 7 points against them that season in the age of the Spread and no one ever seems to give them credit.

Oh, and also, we're talking about a coach that always knows WOS can be better. Heck, if I'm not mistaken, he wasn't too happy about the Navarro Semi Final last year. At least I'm pretty sure that was the game. And we won 49-7 or something like that. And you know Ash, Cocah T will never show his hand and will always expect nothing but perfection in a game for all 48 minutes. If it's not 112%, it's not good enough. That's why he is a legendary coach.

way too early to say, it was a good scrimmage. RJ to Riggs is a thing of beauty, a lot of people will get torched by that combination, if we can get Stansbury to make plays and Preston Hughes to do his thing it will be a fun season. WOS will be fine, They put pressure on RJ every play, our offensive line was struggling. I believe as time rolls on WOS will fine tune the offense and the defense and run thru their district as usual and steamroll deep into the playoffs. I didn't like the touch QB crap but you have to protect your players. Couldn't believe the ref let PNG Sack the WOS QB like they did. WOS had a TD stopped on the Option pitch that I thought was premature. I think both teams will do very well this year, good to see both teams rebuilding and knocking the rust off. IT will be a fun ride this year for both teams, good luck to WOS will be following them as I always do come playoff time. Curious to see how PNG looks against West Brook next week.

Scrimmages mean nothing.  Maybe WOS didn't seem to be as dominant but they still did pretty well (beat) against the predicted local 5A district favorite which has more than twice the enrollment. Only time will tell. Best of luck to the Indians.  I hardly think the word garbage should be used.
