I hope whatever happens Nederland can either work out something more suitable to everyone or be as transparent as deserved by the community so everyone can be as comfortable as it is possible to be. This does not need to split the community. I hope it serves to strengthen it somehow.

I kinda hope that IF it fails, they come back with a more reasonable proposal.

Typically people don’t go stand in long lines to pay higher taxes. But they absolutely will stand in line if it means their taxes will remain low. 
Just an observation. 

There was a sign on the cooler at the BC Dollar General a while back that said that the store wouldn't accept EBT payments for energy drinks.  The clerk said that she'd taken several good cussings over it.  
It gets on my nerves that we could go to any grocery store and determine which people were paying with food stamps and which were paying with their own actual money based solely on the contents of their buggies. They need to go back to passing out eggs, butter, and cheese, if you want my opinion.
 

No punishment could have made up for what King did to Byrd.  And to all the good people of Jasper, which is most everyone there.  Easily overlooked is the fact that unlike many cases in the deep South, the three miscreants were all in jail within 24 hours, and tried and sentenced within a year or so.  No cover up here!  The people of Jasper were handed a job to do; and they did the right thing.  Glad this chapter is finally over.

I can answer for him. They came in under budget by about 1mil. 

Why does everybody assume that BC is trying to avoid Sweeny?  Does BC not even have a chance against them? I mean, if you look at their district they are the only team that's over .500 in total records this year.  I'm not saying that Sweeny isn't good but BC is also good.  I'm hoping for some good playoffs baseball.

Maybe the timing wasn't right the previous time(s) that smaller bonds were defeated.  
For the sake of argument.... I need groceries at the house.  Everybody agrees that something needs to be done.  I'm not wrong for thinking a $450 trip to HEB is a little out of line.... and not because I don't support feeding my kids.  Maybe we need to just grab up what we need to tide us over until payday, but purchase a side of beef, the Thanksgiving Turkey, and the ingredients for Christmas Cookies on 4/24/19.  
They're just opinions... mine doesn't matter.  It's just a lot of money, and IMO it's overpriced. It'll be interesting to see how the voters feel.

$200/square foot seems a little high for commercial construction, but I'll use your number.  With that number in mind, you could create a complete BRAND NEW Central Mall for less than NISD is asking.

705,158 square feet at your price of $200/square foot... add the three, carry the four.... $141,031,600 for a complete, brand new shopping mall.  Not a school that will house 1500 kids for 182 days per year, but an entire shopping mall that would DWARF the plans that Nederland has for the kids.  And you'd still have 15 milly on hand.
I don't care what you guys choose to do as a community.  My problem (as it has always been) is that NISD isn't going to be getting what they're going to be paying for.... for the next 40 years.

Make no mistake...The state is pressuring the local appraisal districts to jack up the values as much as they can before they (the legislature) “come to the aid” of the taxpayers...Talk to any Hardin or Tyler County taxpayer..It’s all smoke and mirrors from  the boys in Austin...

I agree -- it is incorrect and disingenuous to suggest that someone is not compassionate or generous or good-hearted simply because they do not support a policy proposal. People can disagree on policy directions and community decisions about how to solve problems without being morally bad. Just because someone doesn't want to see a tax increase doesn't make them selfish -- And being eager to spend money someone else has earned doesn't make you generous. I have no trust for anyone, politician or otherwise, who pretends to be "good" because they have big ideas about how to spend money that someone else earned. Taxes are not a good in and of themselves. They are a necessary evil at best. Those of us fighting for fewer taxes, even on issues of education, are not "selfish" for doing so. They just have different ideas about how to accomplish good things.
Even though I look at the bond proposal as what is probably a good thing, I am glad there are people in the discussion willing to carry the flag for the other side, even if just to play devil's advocate. There is nothing wrong with trying to pump the brakes on massive spending projects and nothing greedy about wanting to keep more of the money you have earned.
