  1. I won't... or any other Democrat, for that matter. Those same objections that I can't overcome regarding voting for Trump exist when it comes to voting for a Democrat, too, lol. I was standing in a group with two other intellectuals the other day (ok, that was purely to get a response, lol) and all three of us apparently voted Haley last week. Trump's gonna carry Texas, no doubt... and I really don't care a whole lot for her. But at least she's not Trump. I mean, if we wouldn't even vote for Cruz in 2016, Haley's not gonna take the Lone Star state this time.
  2. Actually, it's more like choosing which poison you prefer. The problem that MAGA has is this.... the wheels didn't fall off when Biden took office. In fact, we're in better shape now than at any point in Trump's term. With the exception of the migrant crisis, of course,... but by an other measure things haven't been bad. Me? I'd rather watch some old dude fall around all over the place and get confused about everything than listen to four more years of Trump's nonsense. And most Americans agree with me. Them Trump flags gonna be at half mast come November.
  3. Believe it, lol. But with everything that's happened since I cast my last vote for Trump in 2020, I won't be voting for him again. I've just got too many moral objections to do it again. My thought is that maybe, just maybe, if MAGA gets it's teeth inexcusably kicked in again, they'll realize that they can't win with that guy or his brand of politics and behaviors. But I can already hear the cries about cheating... there's no way that MAGA can admit that they lost, no matter how broadly they get outvoted. But, hopefully after November when Trump has again lost, y'all will remember that CB professed almost two years ago, that "the race is over and the Democrats will win if Trump even announces that he's running in 2024."
  4. I suspect that a lot of Trump's supporters (the uneducated, white, blue collar, etc...) will fade back into whatever they used to do on the weekends. Hunt, fish, get drunk, beat up their wives, etc... I think that the conservative group who were somewhat politically astute before will wake up and realize that they've been sold a bill of goods, kinda like they did when the Tea Party fell apart a little over a decade ago... they'll sheepishly come back to their basics of conservativism instead of idolatry. The scary thing is that nobody under the age of about 30 will ever disassociate Conservatism and MAGA, and they'll never again even consider supporting conservative candidates..... The fact that MAGA is now poised to lose its fourth straight major election cycle should tell people something... it doesn't work. I mean, it did once, against the previous most hated politician ever (Hillary), but once the masses got a taste of what Trump is about, they turned, and not even a woeful ticket like Biden/Harris can be stopped by MAGA. Just last week Trump was vowing that anybody that supports any candidate other than him in the primary "isn't welcome" in the Republican Party. For Christ's sake, Trump's daughter-in-law is about to be the co-chair of the RNC. It's not the Republican party anymore, it's the Trump Party. If it doesn't work, double down, i guess. Some people would rather do things their way and fail than actually succeed, then claim that everybody else is stupid. I don't understand it.
  5. There aren’t very many conservatives left. You have the liberals, the independents, a very, very small group of conservatives, and then MAGA… the people who worship Trump. Conservatives believe that they know best how to spend their own money and want to keep it. Liberals believe that the solutions to all of our problems can be done with other peoples’ money. MAGA believes in whatever their daddy tells them.
  6. No, I don’t believe that illegals should be able to vote in our elections. I also don’t believe that they should be counted towards our apportionment of representation, either. For instance, someplace like Colony Ridge could have 75,000 illegals, none of whom can legally vote in Texas… but they are included in the census for purposes of redistricting. For argument’s sake, pretend that for each 100k people you get your own state/us rep. The end result is that there are 100k people total, with 75k of them not being able to vote. The 25k remainder of legal voters end up with as much clout as 100k legal voters in an area that isn’t 3/4 illegal. I believe that every US citizen has the right to vote ONCE. I’m opposed to non citizens voting, and I’m opposed to voting practices that allow people to vote more than once or vote fraudulently. But I can also say that I have personally heard two elected officials (both Repubs) say directly to me that “everybody doesn’t need to vote.” So you end up with shenanigans like two years ago when Repubs at the state level tried to outlaw Sunday afternoon early voting in a poorly veiled attempt to thwart the “pews to the polls” voting practices that are typically done by black congregations. I got my pride hurt a little bit when I realized that my party actually does have members who believe in surpressing legal voters.
  7. I thought changes were coming? I think this ought to put a wrap on the future over there. Welcome to mediocrity. Hope to meet you there soon. Sincerely, CB
  8. Actually, what he said is that 70% of Haley's voters weren't registered as Republicans. How many were democrats wanting(?) Haley to get nominated? I dunno. How many were Republican leaning moderates who don't feel strongly enough to commit solely to republicanism? Probably most. That's the point that no one wants to understand... Trump can't win with MAGA voters or registered republicans alone. He NEEDS those moderates and even some crossover libs/dems to win.... and he spurns them. In Texas, you can vote in any primary you wish... you just can't vote in both. Why should anybody be excluded from voting in the primary of their choosing? Oh, wait... I forgot that y'all are all from the camp that doesn't believe everybody should be allowed to vote. As a fair-minded conservative by nature, this was one of the hardest facts to deal with. A large part of the Republican base does, in fact, believe that some people shouldn't be allowed to vote.
  9. That's weird... because Trump said that the stock market is due for a huge crash if Biden gets re-elected. Are you proposing that the crash Trump is predicting in 2025 will actually be a result of Trump's policies from prior to 2020? [Hidden Content] the interview%2C which aired,to be%2C Herbert Hoover.” But you're spot on about the economy having less to do with who's in office and more to do with the cyclic nature of economics. Trump's success in years 1-3 was just a result of the good work done by Obama, if I'm to believe your rationale.
  10. Anybody here a registered Republican? Fake news.
  11. Right… makes you wonder why the Trumpers want to play it for four more years.
  12. They? Trump pumped out trillions in aid and brought us the vaccines that y’all despise. The stock market is higher than any point in Trump’s tenure. We made it out of what all indications would be a recession unscathed, other than higher interest rates which are once again falling. Biden is diminished, no doubt. He should NOT be the next president. But you shouldn’t look back fondly at the trump years, while ignoring the last year (which was a disaster) and ignoring the fact that things are better right now than at any point in Trump’s presidency. Unemployment, stock market, etc. Biden’s age and the mess at the border are huge issues, though. Even if I ignore the facts and pretend trump is somehow better for the economy, it doesn’t change the fact that Trump is unlikable, already lost to Biden once, and since nothing has changed since 2020, will likely lose again. So why nominate him again?
  13. I don't hope that Republicans lose, but what's going on between Republicans needs to stop. And for what it's worth, the economy is in way better shape than it was in on Election Day of 2020.... but Trump fans don't want to talk about that. That was caused by the "plandemic." Nobody wants to remember who was behind Operation Warp Speed anymore.
  14. It's the same thing up here... texts, commercials, mailers- and they're all very bitter about our local race for state rep. The thing is this... It's just a primary and most of the turnout will be people who are fairly involved politically. Those people are VERY motivated to fire anybody that MAGA or Abbot believes need to go. If you go to a meeting of the Republican groups in Hardin or Jefferson County, all you'll likely hear is people claiming to be RINO hunters, etc... We need to fire the Speaker, our local rep, state senator, etc... Do you know what they call Democrats who aren't liberal enough for the extreme left? Nothing... because the Dems don't eat their own- that's a purely Republican thing. And trust me, independents and open minded left of center voters want nothing to do with the dysfunction that defines being a Republican. While I don't agree with a lot of y'all, nobody is gonna argue that y'all are much more interested in politics than the rest of the population and are more "like" the people who attend meetings, read articles, and vote in primaries... and to a man y'all support the same candidate(s). I think Phelan and Bailes are in real trouble.
  15. I early voted for Haley in the primary. I think she bows out after 3/5/2024 unless she does unimaginably well. I'll probably just refrain from voting for President if Trump is the Republican nominee... and I'm 99% sure that he will be. And whoever gets "lucky" and gets selected as Trump's VP pick will get eviscerated (aka Pence) by Trump eventually, just like everybody else who's ever worked for him. It's like this- All of the liberals/democrats hate him and will never vote for him. The majority of Independents/Moderates are also so turned off by his actions that they will either vote for someone else or just stay home. Somewhere near 40% of Republicans/Conservatives are like me.... they just aren't going to vote for Trump. As easily as I can say that Haley can't win the primary, I can just as easily say that Trump can't win in the general. The question is this... who is more ignorant? The people who vote for the Democrat (presumably Biden) or the people who nominate someone who can't beat Biden? I'll put it like this... you have the most powerful person in the Texas House representing SETX... Dade Phelan. I think there's a very good possibility that he loses to Covey, in large part due to the endorsement of Trump. On here, I see people who are like "yeah, he's a RINO... he needs to go. Did you see where Trump endorsed him?" At the end of the day you're just shooting yourself in the foot because you're going from having the top dawg in the House (the Speaker himself) representing you... and you give that away because he's not MAGA enough for you. It's a huge loss for the locals, but at least MAGA gets a win, right? It's the reason that San Francisco kept sending Pelosi back to Washington. Was she perfect? Heck, no-far from it. Was she the most powerful person in the House? Yes.... case closed... you don't fire that person. Or at least you shouldn't. But the Left, while I disagree with them, are proving again that they are politically superior to the Right.
  16. First, I don't think he was the best player on the field the week that Jasper came to Silsbee... Smith from Jasper should have worn a cape that night. Secondly, the "on the field" part does mean something... Miller was MIA in the second half against Bellville. He wasn't too injured to start, just too injured to stay in the game once it started getting out of hand. I know that he's got a future to think about, and I understand his decision to chill on the sidelines while the rest of the Tigers were getting a demonstration on how the Slot T is supposed to work. Being the most athletically gifted kid on the team and being the best player on the field aren't the same thing. But I wouldn't argue too much if Miller won.... he's still pretty deserving.
  17. Catches... They propose a "consumption tax" or VAT (value added tax). Kinda like a sales tax that's tacked on at every step of the production process. [Hidden Content] 1. those types of taxes always have a larger impact on people with lower incomes. 2. If you didn't like inflation from the last couple of years, you'll HATE the addition of the consumption tax.. it's going to raise the price of everything that you purchase. 3. It won't be collected locally... and you'd better hope that those hairy-legged women in the Peoples' Republic of Austin see fit to return some of that money back to your area. 4. Those are all facts... my opinion is that they will get an okay from the public to allow a consumption tax, then forget to phase out the property tax. As always, we don't have a tax problem, we have a spending problem. High taxes are a result of high spending, not the other way around. Now I shall return to the shadows.
  18. I'm the only poster in the entire history of SETXSports.com who ever had their posts removed for being too complimentary, lol.
  19. Is this your way of quietly admitting that the Mighty Jack Dallas deserved the WRS over Reed from Silsbee?
  20. I think D. Miller and T. Smith are the odds-on favorites, but I'd honestly vote for Nguyen on offense if I had a vote.
