I think it's WOS since the 80's. When is the last time they had a losing season? How many head coaches have they had? I know that is part of BISD's problem. Their other problem is the disintegration of the feeder school.

Ozen girls play killer team ball, and they WILL run you out of the gym.
-
Ponder this. What is the most consistent program in the area? Why are they consistent?

Take a lil look back when Beaumont was the "Football capital of the World". Beaumont claimed the title but, we know that the Golden Triangle was where it was at. What you see is a hotbed of student athletes in the golden triangle that were superior trained athletes and well-educated students. It wasn't because of new facilities. If we would compare that to today's facilities we would be amazed. They were students first. They graduated from college and pursued a career in sports. Back then it couldn't have been for the money. I have personally met some that turned down the offer to play in order to obtain a regular job. The athletic and academic programs all functioned at a high level with less resources than today. The problem has shifted from students getting accepted to their first choice college to students passing the state test. That is a no win situation.

I've seen their Pop Warner League play and I know they have a lot of players from the program that played pro ball. I think of Gtown like Orange with a Bmt option. A system set in place from little league up to varsity with the option for kids to transfer in to their school just to play ball.
-
I think what people are trying to say is that the coaching is better. The Ned and Gtown situation is the best example. You also have to go with the kids you have. Once you start winning, the kids will flock to your program if you are in a large area.

They gave who Central? Where did BCP students come from? How about French? Where is Central located? Now, lets look at Westbrook. South Park kids went to South Park. South End kids went to BCP. North End kids went to French. That leaves the Pear Orchard riding the bus to Westbrook. Last time I checked, Central wasn't in the South End or North End. How about those kids from Bevil Oaks who ride to Central?
Everybody talks about neighborhood schools but forgot why they were done away with in the first place. The district offered freedom of choice. You can go to any school. Now that the people have spoken everybody want to force kids to go to this or that school. Creating another high school was not the problem. They just shouldn't have put it in that location. Central was the combination of two 5A schools. Westbrook was originally two 4A schools, then later absorbed a diminishing 4A school. The pear orchard had Westbrook, but gave it up to try and recapture something that has been dead for years.
-
Aggies they should have done that when the state cut funding for all districts 3 years ago. Every district around here started cutting back. We steadily taking cuts in the back.
-
As for Ned not making the playoff prior to 88, remember they used to play in 22-5A with Beaumont's 3 5A schools. The balance of power shifted when they started combining schools and firing coaches.

Dennis is nice! He should be playing in Beaumont though.

For the right price anybody can name it.

I think Coach Nelson was a coach who also cared for the students under his watch. He did a lot to try and keep the kids out of trouble. There are probably only some parents that know what I'm talking about. I think circumstances just happened. The first incident put a target on his back and the district used that against him. I wish him the best.

He really is talented and works hard during the off season. The school initially had a problem putting him in a position. We knew his position but the coaches had to figure it out.

TEA did investigate and determine that a sub did in fact help one student. There was no widespread cheating as reported in the news. The sub told the truth about what happened. There was a lawsuit involving Lambert and an assistant principal under her about her daughter being valedictorian --suit was dropped.

I partially disagree PNG. The protests are not student led, they are parent driven. In 1995 BISD was having problems passing state mandated test. That is not the issue right now. The issue is about financial responsibility. It is true that students are more informed now because of social media, but they are still students with the same interests. The amount of people that have attended BISD meetings since the indictments were handed out are pale in comparison to the amount that have attended since layoffs were announced. I sympathize with the teachers because they are the ones who have the most impact on our students. We should release more administrators, but that alone will not fix the problem. I applaud the students for exercising their rights, but it will not change a $25m deficit.
BISD could sell the Thomas center!

If the state takes over today, there still will be layoffs tomorrow. Stop wasting money and get on with it. Personally, I want every person on the board replaced because they allowed this to happen. None of them were doing their job. Everybody warned that no one would be happy if the state took over.
I just wonder where all this "community action" was in 1995 when the state was going to take over BISD because the students couldn't read. Everybody (me too) complained about Dr. Thomas' salary but I know he got his contract because the others turned down the job and they begged him to take it. He initially withdrew from consideration.

The Salvation Army Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange started a girls volleyball league. Check with them.

With Ozen's new coach and that sophomore RB they have a really good chance if their O-line is decent.
Vidor is always a sleeper. Their team is either good or bad. When their good, they will have two or three 1000 yd RBs.

What age group?

FYI Ozen's PS3 coach did try to recruit at Odom. The only reason my buddy won't let his son go to that school is because PS3 was promising to buy them shoes and other BS.
-
It speaks a lot about your little league program when the high school coaches allow your player to call (or change) their plays on the field. This currently happens on varsity teams. No, not every play, but the coach do respect their judgment. These are the kids that have been taught to understand what is going on.
-
I don't have a problem with them nixing 7th grade football. It's a joke here. Tell the truth though. Its for the budget not for player safety. Some of those kids have been playing tackle since they were 7. Flag football will not teach kids the basics.
-
Bigcam I agree that most coaches know what they are doing. I kind lean to the point that we are just overzealous fans. They even help some kids get in school. Can we try to find a best 22 players? 22 starters mean more kids that get seen by recruiters. I know Ozen is a smaller school. When I mentioned 5A earlier I actually meant old 5A(6A now). There's still a difference between a small 5A and 3A.
Coaches usually do what they got to do to win, rightly so.

JMO:
There is no doggone way that kids on 5A teams should be playing both ways. That is not saying a lot for your talent pool. All BISD schools have done it at some point. For us to sit on here and talk about how much talent a team has, then talk about any player playing both ways is contradictory. If talent is as deep as we think it is, there would not be a need to play both ways. Either we are over zealous fans or the coaches don't know what they are doing. You decide!
Any Coaching Changes for 2015 ?

They've had the same coach from then until the late 2000's if i'm remembering correct. Then, the new coach came from the system. The middle school runs the high school's system. When Orange still had a pop warner team they ran the HS system.
