Congratulations  Ozen sounds like they are evenly matched. Thanks again for updates JustUs.

They aren't evenly matched. I think Ozen had the better team. They stopped taking advantage of their size. They were better offensively when they set up their offense. It was a good game though. Among other things, Central needs to work on their free throws. They had an opportunity to win it at the free throw line twice.

  2. Everything is not the kids fault. Coaches have to be up for the challenge as well. I've said it several times on here. The best programs in the area have stability. BISD will never be dominant again as long as they change coaches every couple of years and they let kids transfer schools at will. They have created a culture where coaches just do not want to stay here. You recently heard Coach Foreman was offered another job. You have to ask yourself why did he apply to a smaller school nonetheless?  How many coaches has the district went through under the current AD? It is very rare that a good coach will stay here long. Look at all the winning coaches that have been here since the creation on the school trifecta.

WOS is the standard here! Great program. Two coaches in 25 -  30+ years.

Much as it hurts me to say it, Ned is a well coached team. They always have been. They maximize the talent they have and don't make excuses. They know what to do with talent when they get it.

    PNG is a respectable program.

Flannigan has had 2 Freshman teams every year he's been the Bruins head coach. Hell he's had the numbers to have 5 total teams in his program. Varsity, JV a and b, and Freshman a and b. I will give him credit for that. The kids turn out to play for him. If he can find a good OC and the defensive staff keeps improving then the achievements will come.

Previous coach did not allow anyone to play that did not participate in the off season activities. If the turnout is low for that then you know the rest. Current coach is not like that.

Actually West Brook's football numbers went up after Stump left.

The incoming freshman numbers looked like a 3A program. Then, quite a few kids quit when they hired the new coach (thanks to some bitter assistants).

This past season Ozen freshman team played a few games then the numbers dwindled, then they went 0-10 for the season.

This past season Ozen JV went 1-9 with 25 to 29 players

The program was already on life support due to hand full of players on varsity. To opt to stay in 5A by the AD and Administration of managers is

a come on man moment. Its no way they can compete with Nederland, Central, PNG, Memorial  Going1-9 or 2-8  is a real possibility. I wish them the best. Its no surprise someone wants them to fail. Its no way they should be a 5A football team.Smh....

Westbrook went through the same thing when Stump left.

Did anyone see how many kids Central fielded on varsity this year? It was a doggone shame. All (bmt) schools go through this from time to time.

  6. BISD is trying to save  money using that same old OC Mike Taylor philosophy. If you are not familiar with him, he is the one who closed all the other high schools in the first place. They never should have opened Ozen there in the first place, BISD has even tried for force kids to go to Ozen. They tried it with my daughter.. I am, however for keeping it open because it gives 22 more kids an opportunity to play football, 5 more for basketball, etc. That's another valedictorian and honor grads. It gives the kids opportunity. The problem is zoning and freedom of choice. They need to rezone the schools to something normal. They have talked about neighborhood schools but that does not apply to high schools. I live near Central but I'm dual zoned to Brook & Ozen. My kids graduated from different high schools cause I moved across the street. Going to a regular zoning plan makes more sense which is probably why they won't do it.

  7. I'm just glad to see him and 12 of his teammates have the opportunity to further their education and play football.  Kids like Whaley and Locke somewhat expose themselves with their talent and the offers come pouring in but for others the coaches along with parents have to put in work.  I don't know how many off the 2013 received scholarships but with 12 off the 2014 team and 6 on the 2015 team having offers to play at various levels before the season starts, something is being done right on 88 Jaguar drive.

    Well Said!
