  1. I guess I exceeded my "like" quota for the day. Lol. Not sure I like that feature
  2. But for fun, the BEST Freshman basketball team of all time was my 1985 BCP Cougars! Later to become the Central Jags...not the French / Central but the BCP / Central Jags Can you name any of the players???
  3. You are correct. I have a couple of nephews in elementary school in Beaumont. They are zoned for Amelia, but my brother put in a request prior to the start of school, to go to Regina Howell. The district granted it, so both kids are attending school outside of their zone. Now, when they go to the 8th grade, they will have to go to their zoned school or they can put in another request for the school they want to attend. It may or may not be granted. Same for 8th graders going into the 9th grade. The difference is, Varsity sports aren't part of the equation before high school. So you may see kids in Middle School in Beaumont playing together, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will attend the same high school. You CAN transfer high schools too, but you have to sit out a year of Varsity (This is where the UIL comes in). So if Boyd would have attended Central his freshman year and then transferred to Ozen, he would have had to sit out Varsity his sophomore year. None of which has anything to do with a transfer coming in from another area. If the BISD would just stick to strict zones, there wouldn't be as much confusion.
  4. I believe / hope Woodard was just trying out the two QB's at Lamar before the injury. Don't think he planned on using a two quarterback system. I agree, you may win some games shuffling in QB's, but you miss the leadership element. And against good teams, it doesn't work. Now, depending on the match up, you may elect to go with one or the other for a specific game, but rotating them in the same game will normally cause you to be predictable and outthink yourself. Disclaimer: this is coming from a basketball expert LOL
  5. Well now that we are more than a month into the school year and after playing in some varsity scrimmages and the Nederland Fall league, I can say that Kevin Dotson at Kelly will be a top 3 Freshman player in the area. He will get substantial varsity minutes this year...wouldn't be surprised if he started on a pretty talented Kelly squad. He's 7'3...I mean 6'3, dunks with ease, shares the ball, nice touch, can handle the ball and knock down 3's. Kid is picking up the system and improving everyday!
  6. If the 7'3 kid played in a JV game, the coach of the opposing team would have a heart attack and half the team would be in the restroom for most of the game LOL
  7. That is a great question. But none of us on here are privy to that answer or information.
  8. I am officially closing the book on this one. Either people really don't understand, don't want to believe the answer they are getting, or just stirring things up. For the people out there asking sincere questions, I answered them to the best of my knowledge and hope I helped you. For the ones that just don't get it, maybe you should enroll at Kelly I hear they have a pretty good communications program
  9. He was being steered to Kelly because of education and the fact that the guardian has a kid at Kelly. When that fell through, he is being zoned...not steered to Central. It's not about basketball. Its about where he lives now. Everyone is just making it about basketball in my opinion. Obviously the kid is a good basketball player and I can see how people out of the loop may think that he is being steered to Central. But the timeline I posted above is how it went down.
  10. Yes youre asking reasonable questions. My comment was not directed at you. And I'm not upset at all, I just find it humorous
  11. Strange thing... with all the accusations, I'm surprised there are so many questions?
  12. Opps...did I just infer that Hardin Jefferson was a better academic school than Central?
  13. Painting with a pretty broad brush there. Not all adults in AAU are thinking about themselves. And some do have the kids best interest at heart. I'm still a little confused on how these kids could have been "steered" to a better academic school. Hardin Jefferson has open enrollment...for $1000 per year per family. But who is going to take the kids from the central Beaumont area to Sour Lake everyday and pick them up. And I don't see families lining up to take the kids in and buy them clothes, food, tickets to the movies, tickets to Friday night football games, Homecoming suits, trips to the dentist, ....I can go on and on but I believe my point is clear.
  14. Actually his AAU handler lives in Houston. And even if that were the case, who cares. If the kids school in Atlanta didn't shut down, we wouldn't even be discussing this. The UIL will make sure everything is done correctly.
  15. But there is a Sonic. That's really all a town needs!
  16. Not in Beaumont. You have to attend the school that you are zoned for. His guardian is zoned for Central. If you attend a school outside your zone, you will face eligibility issues and not be allowed to play. I know everyone has their own opinion about how and why this went down. I will try to help out a little on some of the subtle accusations.... 1) Nigerian kids school shuts down in Atlanta. 2) Nigerian kids are relocated to stay with guardian in Beaumont the following week. 3) Guardian has a kid at Kelly...attempts to enroll both kids at Kelly. 4) Kelly starts school 2 weeks before everyone else in this area, so it was too late to get them in and NOT BE BEHIND academically. (Which is paramount at Kelly) 5) Guardian decides to enroll kids in zoned school...Central 6) UIL and every other "expert" in Southeast Texas try to determine whether or not the kids are eligible to play. And that's where we are folks. Nothing underhanded, no school favoritism, no recruiting. It is fun to watch the back and forth on here, but at the end of the day, this is just a story about two kids that came here for a better life, got screwed in Atlanta and now attend Central High School. They are nice boys and I hate that they are having to adjust like this. And the guardian is making a huge sacrifice, both financially and with his time. 7'3" and 6'5" kids don't eat Happy Meals from McDonalds! Hell I have a 5'9 kid that's eating me out of house and home! lol
  17. I was at the game sitting among all the orange. Not sure why people were surprised Lamar would go into Huntsville and win the game. After all, they had a reasonable amount of success against Baylor the week before. And SHSU is NO Baylor. I figured if we could hang 30+ on the #4 team in FBS football and stop Baylor on 3rd down more than a handful of times, we could beat the KittyKats. Actually, if Carson Earp hits a couple of receivers on slants and Harrington going up the sideline, this game would have been 70-46.
  18. Kelly starts school 2 weeks before public schools. The kids were in Atlanta when Kelly started school. When they were scheduled to start school two weeks later in Atlanta, they found out the school was closed. Then it took them over a week to get here. And its not easy to get into Kelly. After starting the process, it was determined that it wouldnt be possible for them to catch up and they needed to get to class.
  19. Actually the TAPPS rules that Kelly follows are similar to UIL. He was coming to Kelly because that's where his guardian wanted him. His guardian has a kid at Kelly. We couldn't get the 7'3" kid in because Kelly starts school 2 weeks before the BISD. So he was too far behind. As for the Cleveland kid, I don't think he ended up coming to Beaumont at all. Believe he is still in Cleveland. There was talk that he might come to Kelly during the summer but I believe there was going to be in issue with grades.
  20. Not only that, but the only reason he came to Kelly to begin with is because his school shut down. That pretty much makes him a non-recruit twice removed. lol
  21. Correct. The school in Atlanta closed down this month.
