  1. Fair statement. Especially concerning southeast Texas.. CT was an exception but retired. All communities are stupid for not allowing THEIR CHOICE to at least see the 9th graders through graduation. Just my opinion, of course. But to be fair, the most consistently successful programs (no matter the sport) have consistent head coaches. People claim they want someone to build a program and/or change the culture, then don't allow them time to do it.
  2. Probably won't have a choice. Doesn't the community usually give the coach about 2 or 3 years to win a state championship before they move on to the next one?
  3. No clue. I just heard it was a close family tie. Not familiar with the Reescano lineage.
  4. I seriously think you have no idea the level of physical maturity between a 13/14 year old kid and a 17/18 year old kid. Unless this 8th grader you speak of is one or two years older than his peers.. which would also explain why he was so dominant (I'm guessing that's what you're implying?). No offense, but when an 8th grader makes other 8th graders look bad it doesn't mean that they could start for any varsity team in the county. Don't get me wrong.. maybe the kid can play. But I wouldn't bet the farm on an 8th grade kid from Hardin being able to even remotely do well playing with or against the teams in Liberty, Cleveland, or Dayton's district.. Let alone starting offense. My thoughts, if that kid would've indeed been Hardin's starting quarterback last year.. he would've been running for his life against East Chambers, Woodville, Anahuac, and the others just like their actual varsity quarterback was. Besides.. we're talking about the AD's kid? That's what I heard anyway.. What are the chances that A)Hardin keeps the coach around long enough to see the kid graduate anyway? (look at their track record) B)if the kid is as good as you're implying, why not take him to a school where he'll get an opportunity to shine? and win? C'mon, guy..
  5. Unless there is just a mass exodus of students.. WOS will remain locally dominant at least I'm guessing. Newton went through two great coaches and is still Newton. The kids just traditionally have more than everyone else in their respective classification/area. WOS will do the same.
  6. Very impressive. I heard that this kid has very close family ties to the Reescano family recently in or graduated from Hardin.
  7. LaPorte is not what they once were.
  8. Other than the name of the new hire and most everything about his coaching past.. it's been pretty quiet.
  9. There's an underlying point to my statement.
  10. Concerning?...
  11. Again.. I couldn't care less either way. The school can go about it however they want to. I would just think that since the ENTIRE team/community/state knows that WOS is going to have a new head football coach next season, maybe get a new guy in there so they can get rolling with THEIR plan.
  12. To each their own I guess. Is C.T. going to remain around the field house / weight room? Or whatever... I would think that even if they know who's going to take over, they would go ahead and let the guy take the wheel. I mean.. that's just my opinion. Sure seems like this particular thread has been dragging on for a while since the announcement of the retirement.
  13. Lumberton struggling a little bit without their 6'6 D1 player? Who knew...
  14. Just curious.. is there an expected time to which someone will be hired for this job?
  15. Quite a difference between a goal and what you're talking about. Every good coach in the system will say that's their goal, train like a champion, have kids believing that they're winners, and do everything possible to win every game.. but will realistically know whether or not it's a legit possibility. Coaches know their talent level and they know the other team's.
  16. I doubt anyone that has gone 0-10 every year would be on that list. I mean the countless coaches that win 10+ or so games every year, make consistent playoff runs, and just do better with less. Several folks on that list will spend an entire career having not gotten a ring.
  17. There is no question that the goal every year is to win the state title.. I'm talking about the standard to which you fire someone or not. That's a little ridiculous. Have some realistic expectations.
  18. Some of the best coaches in the game never won one. And.. some decent (at best) coaches won one or more due to some freakishly athletic players at opportune times.
  19. How many schools in Liberty Country haven't won a football state championship in.. ever? All but one, right? As much as it pains me to say, I do believe that Hull Daisetta is the only school in that county with a state title. Having said that.. statistics show us that neither Liberty or any other school in Liberty County will NOT win a state championship in football in the next 7 years. Possibly ever. So.. just my opinion, of course. Maybe don't make the standard as winning it all. Maybe overall athletics success (as perceived by the community), consistent high percentages of participation, and maybe positive culture changes and expectations. Anyone who believes that a coach's individual success should be rated on a state championship is going to stay overly disappointed. Most really good coaches spend a career trying for a championship without getting one. Phil Danaher just retired recently as well. He won more games than any football coach in Texas public school history. Zero state titles.
  20. 1st.. I said that your comment SEEMED like that, not that I personally believed anything. 2nd.. You might not have gotten an interview because you have 36 years....of coaching experience? If you've been coaching for nearly 40 years then I wouldn't entertain your application either. It doesn't matter who you know if you're that old. Just sayin...
  21. That sounds about how it usually works. Or maybe the new guy will eventually leave on his own after having that AD/HFC on the resume.. or perhaps not. Maybe he'll make a home of Liberty, Tx. But Liberty isn't the kind of place to allow that for too long.. judging by what's happened in the past. We'll see.
  22. Just my opinion.. your comment seems a little like that of one made by a disgruntled applicant who didn’t get the job. If so, relax. You were probably given a favor. Based on what I’m told about the kids currently in the program, it’s likely a dog fight for 4th for many more years.
  23. Not sure how the girls side is run. I know it’s fairly successful.. and I believe the coaches are pretty consistent. Are they not? I know that pretty much all successful sports in SeTx have pretty much had the same coach for a long time. You’d think that schools would notice that correlation. I know I have.
  24. Definitely more so than usual for SeTx. I meant that he may have retired there if able.
