Rumor is someone has videos of a payoff. I have friends at Lindale and in Austin ISD. Getting the talk on both sides. I don't pretend to understand legal merit, I'm not a lawyer and I don't think you are either. The argument from the Austin side is the game was relatively evenly called in first half, then a mass change happened, if a video of a payoff exist then TASO might be dealing with a pretty interesting lawsuit. Lots of Ifs, ands and buts. I don't have the answers just giving you info I'm getting from up there.

All I'm saying is I have never heard of any lawsuit regarding officiating in any game. Also, your statement about a payoff has absolutely ZERO to do with the complaints from Austin LBJ and the NAACP. Their complaints are based on alleged racial bias by the officials.

Is Austin ISD aware of comments? I'm sure they are. Is the coach a party to a potential lawsuit? Not yet.

Any potential lawsuit has no merit. Do you know how many basketball games I've seen with 40 foul calls, 30 of those against one team? I don't know either, but its quite a few. I can tell you how many lawsuits resulted out of those games, zero. Before anyone gets smart, yes I know we're talking about a football game on this thread, but its the same premise.

I took it as there were racial slurs from the officials. If that’s the case, that’s not cool at all... really it’s not cool if it was a player or an official, but you’d expect professionalism from Refs vs the opposing football team...

So, I watched the video of the link attached in LC-M's post. The man representing the NAACP specifically said "people" were saying racial slurs. He did not say officials. In a complaint based mostly on the way the game was officiated, one would have to think if the officials were the "people" throwing out racial slurs, this would have most certainly been mentioned.

Yep. 2 years probation sends a loud and clear message (heavy on the sarcasm).  The school’s own district shutting down the season and giving up the playoff win sends an awesome message too and here’s what it is:

    Luke 23:41

“We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

That’s what one of the criminals being crucified with Jesus said to another criminal in reference to Jesus being punished.

Those kids (not the turd who committed the crime) got to learn that life isn’t fair. That’s about it. Oh yeah, and that they can’t always trust the people in charge to make good decisions. They’ll get to learn that one over and over.

Very well said, and is the absolute truth. Great post.

It's a polarizing issue, so naturally people are going to disagree. We're not the ones being combative here.

Anyone wanting an entire team to be punished for one player's illegal actions is being combative by the nature of the comment. It's really just like saying if I go out and drive drunk, run a red light and hit another car, causing the death of the other driver, then my family should be punished the same as I would be. It just doesn't make good sense. (AAW, I read your comment and point taken, thank you.)

  6. Some of these comments are absolutely insane. This kid unfortunately committed a crime. He should be punished accordingly. However, no one else on the team should be punished for his actions. That's ridiculous. Those of you comparing his actions to a holding penalty are comparing apples and oranges. You're comparing breaking the law to a holding penalty. Not even close to the same thing. The school district caved to the fake angry mobs and keyboard warriors like a few of you on this thread.

If they told me that I have to leave and I had a son playing on the team I will just had to leave I will not do anything or hurt the team like that he had a choice and he made the wrong choice he cause his son team to lose by forfeit it's not right for the kids to play real hard and lose like that but it's the choice the dad made and was he wrong I can't say yes or I can't say no if I know if I was the dad I would've just had to went home or watch it from the parking lot

He was watching from the parking lot. Please read the article in the link with the original post.

He picked the wrong sacrifice to make his point. He was still on their property. He knew the consequences, right or wrong, and he took a stand at those kid’s expense. I don’t agree with what the school made him do either. But I’m not gonna sacrifice all those kids’ win because I wanna be a jackass.

I'll counter by saying the school officials that made the unnecessary decision are the real jackasses. They did not have to do what they did. It was done out of pure animosity, hatred, and a hunger for whatever power the school officials feel they gained by taking that action. The guy went to the parking lot for crying out loud.

The dad is a freaking IDIOT!

Why? Please explain how watching a game alone from a parking lot, apparently with no one else around with the exception of school officials who followed the dad to harass him, makes the dad an idiot? He was not allowed entrance to the game, and went to the parking lot to watch. Wearing a mask in a parking lot is the equivalent to wearing a mask alone in your car.

I really hate these idiots who think they have a right to get sick and make other people sick. Just goes to show you how stuck on stupid America really is.

It is unfortunate that the kids playing the game have to be punished. They didn't do anything wrong.

Please read the article.. He wasn't allowed inside the stadium without a mask. That's just fine. Then he was watching alone from a distance and the game was still cancelled at halftime? This is a PRIME example of a power grab and over-reach by a petty school official. I get it if the guy was in the stands, he wasn't.

I’m not disagreeing with your logic, but what is their top 5 ranking based on if not the current game(s) played?

The only thing a ranking can be based on in HS football this early in a season, which is performance from the previous season. I do not disagree that any loss should move any team down some, but the competition a team plays matters when considering the rankings as well. A ranked 3A D2 team getting beaten up on by a ranked 4A D2 team shouldn't bear as much weight as playing a weaker team. If that makes sense? That's just my opinion on the subject. I also felt like the original question was taking a shot at Newton as well, which I thought was kind of silly considering, well, they're Newton.

So when WOS beats them by 50 are they still in the top 5? Next week vs Gilmer who will beat them by 40+ are they still top 5?

I don't make the rankings, but apparently you are a fortune teller. No, if they get beat like that 3 weeks in a row they will probably not be in the top 5 any longer. However, none of those games have any bearing on how Newton would fare against the other teams ranked in the top 5 in Newton's classification. I'd say no 3A D2 team in the top 10 would do well against any of the teams Newton will play during this 3 week stretch.

No doubt. I just know as a kid that played HS and college football, and coached at levels from pee wee to college as a GA, that even  the toughest SOB can make a group of kids go to war for him if he does it right. Maybe he doesn’t possess that skill.

There's definitely some sort of disconnect with the football kids for some reason. Baseball doesn't have a problem playing for him though. That's where it confuses me. I know football and baseball are two vastly different sports, but motivation and getting kids to play for you isn't any different between the two. (At least IMO)

Or...it could be that he hasn’t done a very good job. It’s oft times good to look at both sides. A good coach can have high expectations AND make the kids and parents like it. Maybe he’s just not good at that.

That's certainly a possibility. However, the majority of complaints I've heard about Jones are:

    1. He expects too much.

    2. He's too hard on the kids.

Also, Kirbyville hasn't had much talent in the last few years. That's certainly part of it.

  15. I've seen some comments on here saying Jones "bit off too much", and "I haven't heard anything good." If "biting off too much" means holding young men accountable, and EXPECTING them to work hard everyday is "biting off too much" then so be it. If "not hearing anything good" means little Johnny's parents are pissed off because Coach Jones is mean and requires too much of little Johnny then so be it. It's a shame people act this way when someone in charge expects something of them or their children.

This is the hidden content, please

    From the article...

“I mean if we were to lock down really hard, I know I hate to even suggest it,” said Kashkari. “People will be frustrated by it, but if we were to lock down hard for a month or six weeks, we could get the case count down so that our testing and our contact tracing was actually enough to control it the way that it's happening in the Northeast right now.”

Kashkari continues, “If we don't do that and we just have this raging virus spreading throughout the country with flare-ups and local lockdowns for the next year or two, which is entirely possible, we're going to see many, many more business bankruptcies, small businesses, big businesses, and that's going to take a lot of time to recover from to rebuild those businesses and then to bring workers back in and re-engage them in the workforce. That's going to be a much slower recovery for all of us.”

The Northeast has had the worst results with the virus by a landslide. That's not really debatable. This Kashkari guy has a ridiculous take IMO.
