This was closer than I thought, did Buna have some guys missing or Coldspring play better than previously?

Buna had some starters out. Still should’ve been much worse. About 80% of the game was played on the Coldspring half of the field, but the offense struggled to punch it in. Also missed a FG. Coldspring only had 3 or 4 1st downs the entire game. They scored in the 4th on a WR screen that went for 70.

No doubt these are two of the better back to back classes Buna has fielded in quite awhile. This next game against Anahuac won’t be a pushover. They started  a good number of sophomores and freshman last year best I recall. More than likely the winner of this one finishes 3rd in district play and the other in 4th. Buna could actually finish 8-2 which would look good on someone’s resume.

Wish the Cougars the best of luck the rest of the way.

The majority of starters will return next season as well. Only 5 seniors on the team.

Cats have little to no identity on offense. They run the ball well and the zone read even better, but they go away from it too early in drives. Playcalling looks more like what the coaches want to do and what they want to see rather than what they CAN do. QB is inaccurate, throwing hospital balls and receivers are getting little separation but let's throw it anyways. I understand he's a 4yr starter and playing his heart out that's clear. They have a solid RB room between 10 and 21. QB runs the ball well with physicality and they have good athletic skill guys as well as QB2 who can fly on the option. I'd like to see some simplified creativity with jet sweeps, more motions, and just simply run the damn ball. The defense is really good as well as their kicking game in all phases (Kickoff, punt, field goal). It seems simple to rely on your run game with multiple guys that can produce, play physical bend but don't break defense, and a solid special teams' unit.

They were much better offensively with the QB2 in the game last night.

Thanks for your non-bias evaluation of tonight’s game. Almost as good as your evaluation of the BC/Orangefield game.

edited:  the only game that matters is the one BC gave to Orangefield

BC did give the game to OF. I had people from OF tell me that. There’s no bias in my statement. It’s a fact OF scored 3 points on drives that started outside of Buna’s 40 yd line. The Buna offense was really bad too before you try to take that and run with it.

Would have been a whole lot worse if EC had wanted.

Meh. I’m not sure about that. Sounds like you’re saying EC pulled everyone for the 2nd half. That didn’t happen. They even started the 2nd half with an onside kick attempt.  Could they have been tinkering around offensively? Sure. They didn’t pull players until about 8:00 or so left in the 4th.

    Nothing backhanded here.

Just think a couple of Buna posters are whining too much about a transfer for EC. One particular Buna fan has made a point of it so it seems a bit serious.

I had to edit an Orangefield fan's post making some very baseless accusations about EC and it's athletic program. It's that kind of comments that I would deem as quite slanderous and is not in "good fun".

I would come on here and defend Buna had the roles been reversed.

Apologies for misunderstanding the intent. One Buna fan isn’t all of us. Most of us were cautiously optimistic about the game and hopeful for a win. We feel like it’s a year early for this team. Only 5 seniors once again this year. Vast majority of the team is sophomores and juniors.

There have been several comments from a couple of Buna folks (not just in this thread). I mentioned it was a couple of them, not all of Buna so no it's no shot at Buna.

One or two of the Buna posters (along with an Orangefield poster or two) have always complained about EC and their "abundance" of transfers. You need to go back and look at other threads.

Has EC received a transfer or two? Yes. (in this season only one can be considered a true transfer since the other two are actually EC kids) But that was not the reason why EC won 35-7 and not 20-14 from last season even though Buna returned a lot from that team. (according to you)

I had EC in this one by 2-3 TD's and my thoughts weren't about a transfer. Just a better overall team.

And that’s exactly what I said in response to you. EC was the better team. No, it’s not “according to me” those are the facts. You can keep on going with the backhanded comments all you want though.

    Right.

My question for a couple of Buna fans. Was this 35-7 win because EC is the better team or was it because of their one transfer? (I don't count the one who came from PA and the other from Manvel. Both those two started at EC)

First off, if there was a lot of talking it certainly wasn’t on this website. Unless I missed something, I saw one comment about EC transfers and I don’t believe it was meant in seriousness, but seemed to be just in good fun. Regarding your comment Aggie, it seems more like a shot at Buna than anything else. That’s fine. EC was most certainly the better team. Their speed will go unmatched in the district, and they’re more physical than what most people think. They’ll beat up on OF as well. They’re that good this season. Buna will still return 19 of 22 starters next season. The turnaround they’ve had is real. However, this season EC is in a different class than everyone else in the district.

  9. Yall do realize this was a 21-14 game last season and Buna returned everyone? I also disagree about the non-district schedule. Jasper and St. Pius aren’t good football teams right now. EC scraped by HJ with a 3 point win with HJ’s starting QB out. Buna scrimmaged HJ and I think South Beau is better than HJ, St. Pius, and Jasper for sure. We know Woodville is better than Jasper, they just beat them. Hardin is the best team either team has played though. I’ll give yall that.  I’m not saying Buna is gonna come out and dominate this game or anything like that, but I think they have a punchers chance in this one.

Well they have a very good quarterback in Gonzalez. He's proven his worth from last year and this year as last year.  They beat 2 - 4A teams, one being BC who is suppose to win their district and a 3A team in Woodville that made playoffs last year.   I'm a huge LCM fan, but don't be surprised that the don't take this one on LCM's turf.   LCM ran into a buzz saw with HF, with that said, dont be surprised if they take the district with WOS in it.

BC gave that game away. Let’s stop pretending they didn’t. I know OF fans don’t want to hear that, but it’s true.

Man, hard one to pick.   I have grandchildren at both schools.   LCM has a decent offense,  defense showed to be lacking against a very good HF team.   OF has an excellent offensive team and appears to be tough on defense.  They beat BC and BC was picked to win the district with all their HYPE. (Go Tigers)  OF beat Woodville 20-6, LCM beat Woodville 21-6.   I pick LCM 24-23.   Only because LCM has home field advantage. 😊

Serious question, what has OF shown on offense to say they’re “excellent” on offense?
