Kind of reminds me of Silsbee last season. Yep overdue for a game where they shoot the lights out. Hopefully have a few of those in the tank. -

Ghost is an 8th grader at Orangefield now. But Ben Elliott can go on a heater too. -

Heck they haven’t beaten LCM yet. Let’s hope the Bears catch fire and pull the upset of the playoffs so far. -

They will need to press to just keep the ball in front of them, to just slow the ball down. Against Yates’ press, they looked like they were having a slam dunk contest on the backend of that thing. At the same time, half court set seems to favor BTW as well. Silsbee wins by attrition if they pull it off. Booker T’s studs are as skilled as Silsbee’s, they are just half a foot taller. -

First half of district at home vs second half of district at Yates, correct. BTW is decidedly better than Yates. Silsbee can beat them, but I believe it will take a better performance than tonight. -

Silsbee has been the class of 4A basketball in Texas for over a decade. Yates is probably next. Argyle has been really good as well. Dallas has had some really good teams obviously, but none have been as consistently dominant. Silsbee is the cream of the crop imo. -

This. Could play great. Could also play like hammered dog poop. -

Because Booker T has made them look pedestrian. -

Gotta agree with Matt Faye. When these two teams meet, you need to find a bigger venue than Dayton. -
My dad really liked him and loved to tell a story that was I’m sure a “stock” one for Jan. He would tell people about a game where he was so bad he couldn’t make anything. He said he was so mad after his 4th missed FG, he went to kick the bench and was lucky he didn’t break his foot. Because, as he would tell it, he was so bad that day he missed that too. 😂
-
Most did. My dad went to HS in Lubbock with another of the tough old guys, EJ Holub. He got my dad a job with a finance company out of KC (EJ was an all pro center and lb for the chiefs - he may have been the last two way all pro). Anyway, two other Chiefs who worked for Interstate (the company) during the off-season were Len Dawson and Jan Stenerud. When your star QB is “humping it” in the off-season, you know most all of them were.

Butkus, Ray Nitschke, Lee Roy Jordan, Sam Huff. Jack Lambert came a little later but was cut from the same cloth. Those guys were all a different breed. Tough as nails. Butkus was the cream of that crop though.
-
Welp, we can no longer be friends...

My dad had a picture when I was growing up of an offensive lineman who had his hand in Butkus' facemask, and Butkus was biting his fingers. Classic Butkus. They just don't make em like those guys anymore.

Silsbee vs Jack Yates Monday 7pm Dayton Predictions
TxHoops replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Rarefied air. When Houston schools in this classification are anxious to prove their mettle against the Tigers, that says something about the state of your program. And I know that is absolutely the case for one team that appears to be on a collision course with Silsbee. Hopefully they will be looking past the Bears tomorrow night and get tripped up. Not likely, but one can hope. -

Funny you mentioned this. I was unaware of the series totals, but was just thinking yesterday that in basketball (especially the last several years), Yates has probably been Silsbee’s biggest rival. Those two have had some unbelievable games against each other as well. -

I must have missed that gem. I do remember one basketball aficionado posting that Whitmire was one of the most underrated coaches in our area. That guy is almost always right by the way. -

Go Tigers! Hope it is a clean, injury free game. Glad you have joined the site, by the way. We have been missing a Yates presence on this board this season. And you guys are always passionate and a welcome addition. -
Bama will be trying to find home plate for the first time in game 3 tomorrow.
