My State Semifinal Winners (coverage area & other)

You brought up defense. What about blocked shots (4), altered shots (a ton), etc? I would say in a 2 point game (vs Marcus), keeping the other team from being able to effectively score in the paint probably had a big impact on the win. And by probably, I mean definitively. But hey, your guys two points and 4 boards in that same game was probably a bigger difference maker. In the state championship game, when he had 8 & 10 (with 3 blocks), your guy had 3 pts and 5 bds while leading the team in turnovers (4). We can keep arguing but we can agree to disagree. Obviously Cam got better over the next two years. And despite your friends who were parents of his teammates, if you don’t think they don’t win it all that year without him, I’m not the only one who would disagree with you. Ronnie Courtney would too.

Yeah Gatlin was solid, but me thinks you are not giving enough credit to the value of having a 6-11 kid in the middle. He was a much bigger factor than Gatlin in Austin that year. They certainly don’t beat that great FM Marcus team (that went back to back the next two years with Marcus Smart and Phil Forte) without him. No offense but no one is putting your guy Gatlin in a “big 3” with Clark and Richardson over Cam. As you know, Cam and Kelly were the only two burger boys off of those teams. And I remember those teams well - my best friend’s sons lost in the state finals to Marcus in ‘12 before bringing home the hardware the following year in route to McD AA game appearances themselves…

Had never made it past the third round until this year. -
He was still a force and ended up being the most notable though. But you’re right. Clark and Richardson were probably the best two, although most wouldn’t recognize their names 15 years later.

Courtney won one at FB Bush with that Cameron Ridley team. Definitely two of the all time Texas HS basketball coaching legends.

10-12 FTs in last few minutes of game too. Scales 6-6, Thomas 2-2, and Willis 2-4. Fairfield really dominated the paint on the offensive end and weren’t terribly big. Just a lot stronger. Fortunately, they had no answer for OF’s guard play. -

Scales gets fouled and hits his 3rd and 4th in a row to extend lead to 68-64. Fairfield comes down and gets another easy basket inside 68-66 47ish seconds left. Bobcats ball after timeout. -

Fairfield and stay in front of Scales but Bobcats getting exposed inside. OF leads 66-64 with 1:13 left and the ball coming out of timeout. -

There is no better source on Texas HS basketball, especially in this region. -

Thank you for the updates. At some point I got old and following updates on a message board became very exciting for me. Great win Cards! -

Some folks kind of downplayed it early but you could tell from his first season there he was gonna be something special. It is also the most talented Bc team I can remember, and boy do they know how to execute. I was with you going into the game - I didn’t give them much of a chance at all against Washington but really, REALLY hoped I was wrong. -

We can compare teams after the season. Let’s enjoy this one. (And it’s not particularly close to begin with which makes it even more silly to do so at this point.) -

Man after my own superstitious heart… -
Really good guard play. Not a ton of height but not tiny and are scrappy inside. Well coached.

Not sure what is going on with the water there but I hear about it all the time. I will say from what they say, it is extraordinarily high. Oldschool makes a point though…

T Completely agree. The whole thing was so dumb to begin with - “yeah I went pro for a few years but that isn’t going great so I’ll just hop back into college.” No way I would have risked that if I were Oates on such a ludicrous position. -

Tanking is out of control in the NBA. It’s beyond me why they refuse to address it. EVERYONE knows it’s happening and it gets worse (and earlier) every year. -

They should. If a school chooses to run a kid out there before the case is final, they should assume the risk. Jmo. -

That team was good but statistically the third best team in the last 10 years, behind the team the following year that won 33 games and lost in the third round and the 2018-19 team that won one more game and also lost in the third round of the playoffs The 18-19 team set the school record at the time for wins (29) and playoff wins, which the 22-23 team came within one of the season total. Obviously, the 23-24 team beat both of those marks. none of those teams won district They actually dropped down 4 years before that. 2017-18 was their last season in 4A. And make no mistake about it. The 23-24 Hitchcock team was the same team, another year older, that also blew the brakes off Kountze (who took 2 of 3 from OF that year) by 40 in the regional finals. they were a buzz saw.
