RanchHand reacted to WOSgrad in What happened to D-FW this year?
You know, the argument that the venue site doesn't hold an advantage would hold more IF the DFW would have not been crying and catterwallering after the 2015 UIL State Championship weekend.  You remember that one?  That is when Argyle (44 min to Arlington vs. 4 hr, 44 min to Houston), Celina (1hr, 1 min to Arlington vs. 4 hr. 17 min to Houston), Mansfield Legacy (29 min to Arlington vs. 3 hr 35 min to Houston), and Frisco Lone Star (46 min to Arlington vs. 4 hr 3 min to Houston) all fell in their championship final games.  In fact, if not for first year program Brock, DFW would have gone home empty that year.
Now in the years before and after the 2015 Championships, you heard nary a word from DFW (kind like here by some) that the fact that the state championship venue gave DFW area teams any advantage.  BUT OH, immediately following the 2015 championship, the OUTCRY WAS INCREDIBLE FROM the what I now call the Excusoplex that the Houston area and SETX teams HELD SUCH AN ADVANTAGE playing in their backyard.  So to now flip back is a bit of a dip in the hypocrisy pool.
So there have been many good arguments here for holding the championships exclusively in AT&T.  As a whole, the Jones have been much more supportive of high school football than the McNair's and I can see the UIL extending their appreciation for that.  AT&T may well be a swankier venue (although I am not sure that the NFL or those folks that have lawsuits pending against Jones, the Cowboys and the NFL over their seats at the 1 and only Super Bowl held there would agree).
But to indicate some sense of entitlement on the part of the DFW to host these game smacks of nothing but pure snobbishness when some of the best ball being played is done outside of the area.  Right now, I think you should look to Austin and Central Texas (Westlake, Lake Travis, Judson and before this year, Yoe) and East Texas for that.
And that snobbishness is highlighted no more than when Anything but Slick Ric Renner insists on providing a tally of championships won by the "DF Dub."  I don't know if it makes a lot of folks feel as ECBucFan does, but it certainly does me.

Putting all our eggs in one basket on this one.Defense,defense,defense.Not going to win a shootout with these guys but got to find a way to put up at least 4 td's,maybe more and hold them to less. That's a tall order but achievable. Will see.

If you have a child in the band, cheerleader, drill team, football team, rotc, etc., there is no excuse for not being there on a consistent basis.  Every one of those kids has atleast one parent.

Totally understand that but generally, you see the same teams year in and year out at the finals...in baseball and basketball.  The smaller schools (NCAA) don't have the luxury of being able to recruit the bigger named stars like the LSU's, the UT's, etc.  It's rare for a small school to make it to the finals.  That's the only point I was trying to make as far as the NCAA rule is concerned.  And I only brought that up because I felt that the UIL was "trying" to follow some of the NCAA standards.  I have absolutely no clue if that's true or not, but I do know that football is a huge money maker.  Every team that makes the playoffs in every division has to pay 15% off the top to the UIL for each playoff game.  I'm guessing that helps to pay for JerryWorld or whatever....who knows.  I just know that that adds up to a lot of money....and more money than baseball or basketball brings in for sure!

Bottom line, our local newspapers no longer have 5-6 sports writers on payroll. Just 1 editor and 1 writer. That's it. It's hard for one writer to do several features leading up to game night. Now days they get stringers to cover the games.
Remember also, we use to have 4 TV stations here locally (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX). Now we just have 2. Media as a whole has been reduced, condensed for financial reasons. Also, with the internet and social media now available, print media is about obsolete. I personally think Danny is doing a fine job at BE considering he and the new guy Matt don't have much to work with.
I take pride in this site in providing as much accurate info as we can possibly put out. I know for a fact many coaches from our area view this site religiously. That tells me all I need to know.

Just curious as to what point Coach T WOULD be voted as Coach of the Year by the Beaumont group?  It certainly hasn't been in the last 3 years at ALL.  It probably matters to others more than it does to him but it has nothing to do with being "spoiled".  It has to do with the principle of the thing and makes it seem like Beaumont is a wee bit jealous of the success of WOS.  WOS scores over 800 points on offense in a season and has NO ONE on the offensive side recognized.  Spoiled?  I don't think so.

I have to agree with Johnson and Tyler.....the others??????? And just because a coach is "supposed" to win a SC, shouldn't exclude him from coach of the year DBerry. I mean really? You take a bunch of over achieving, undersized kids to the TEXAS State Championship and you say that "what was supposed to happen?" Get out of here with that!

I wish there was never another game played at AT&T.
It doesn't matter where they are played, people are going to come to the State Championship Games, regardless. Exiting the parking lot at AT&T was just stupid. Never seen anything like it. I sat in my truck for 32 minutes, without moving. WTH????

Not only that, I don't want to ever have my name on anyone else's words. Not even my boys. I'm not naive enough to think they haven't ever looked and read here. However, I would tell them as I would tell anyone else, if you feel strong enough about something to post it in an open forum then put your name on it. That and I don't need any problems with momma. Lol

I'm still enjoying the victory last night. Honestly haven't asked but I'll find out later. Sitting here trying to make myself believe all of this is real. When these boys were very young we knew they were special. As they got to be 9, 10, and 11 the reality of what we thought was right before our eyes. We said back then that they had 2 State Championships in them. Now we've lost a few of those boys. A couple of them moved to Beaumont and actually one is visiting Yale this weekend to play football. The pride and joy that these boys have given me and a lot of other people is just amazing. I didn't mean to go on a rant about the boys but it's just what's on my mind right now. Can you even imagine? Three State appearance in a row. Not to mention a State appearance in baseball. Thanks for the ride fellas!!!!

    IMO...
    1. Winning culture of high expectations and athlete commitment created by good, consistent coaching.
    2. They can put 11 athletes on the field that can compete at almost any level in the state.
    3. They've got a top notch field general right now, that really operates the offense. In my VERY limited opinion, in the past (8 years before the JD era), WOS seemed to do a lot of run, run, throw the deep ball and let their athleticism take over. In the little that I've seen the past 3 years, they've really been able to develop a diverse offensive scheme due to the continuity and skill at QB.

Disclaimer: I'm just a very casual fan, that never played the game. And.... I'm super proud that WOS is representing SETX so well.

Here's what you don't know, the Sup didn't and doesn't decide that. He offered charter buses. Coaches and players made that choice. They said it's not a vacation they are going to work. So your opinion of the Sup is all wrong!!! And yes they did stay in a hotel.

So I'm leaving the game and some Giddings fans (kids) yelled at us "Better luck next year!!"
As I said, they were kids and they were laughing and it was actually good humored, but I quickly responded...."better luck next week!!!", then drove away.

Good season Panthers, good luck WOS.
