I guess Lee's coach has been in education less than 5 years because he started at $80k, I don't know their raise structure though so who knows what he makes now. When Sedberry was at Lee he applied for the Central job so I would imagine it was a raise for him to leave GCCISD and go to Central at the time. If it is Flannigan it would make sense because he's been a coach for a long time and could probably negotiate a higher salary. I know BISD started Foreman and Suggs around $80k so if Flannigan isn't making much more than that it's understandable for him to apply for a potential raise closer to home.

Westbrook isn't in a far easier district either. North Shore and Atascosita are tough and will finish 1-2, but the rest of the district is mediocre to sub-par for the 6A level. Westbrook, The Woodlands, Lufkin and Montgomery are pretty solid for the top half of a 6A district.

No way man. Not even close, Lufkin was 5-6 in 5A last year if i'm not mistaken. It just sounds scary to say Lufkin they've fallen off, Montgomery is losing like 17 starters, and the rest are not very good. Woodlands is the only team West Brook should lose to. Sterling is gonna have to battle to beat Kingwood they will have to battle to beat Summer Creek and there is 0 chance against North Shore and Atascocita. You cant make a case for West Brook struggling with 4 different teams in that district.

Well, he made more than the position was offered for at GCM. Starting salary for a GCCISD head football coach was a little over $79k last year, whic is why I remember the Lee guy that came from Texas City starting at $80k. Maybe the teachers are paid great but when you can go to the SW side of Houston or north to Montgomery County, not be expected to win, and still start at 6 figures, GCCISD and their lack of talent becomes a hard sell to sought after coaches.

This is the hidden content, please

That pay is a range based on experience. And if they hire a guy they really like they will even offer more than the scale listed. So unless they hire a coach who has only been in education for 5 years, which isnt the case, they are paying well over 90k. GCCISD pays really well man. Wasnt the guy they just reassigned making 100k+. They pay WAAAAAY better than BISD, otherwise why would a coach leave when he has more talent and just beat Sterling, and Beaumont is in a far easier district than Sterling, assuming it's Flanigan and not Toby since no one apparently knows who applied.

According to the Baytown sun 45 people applied for the job. About twelve were interviewed last Thursday and Friday. With head coach being announced Monday the 23rd. This is a great job to have with awesome kids. They work hard and have stuck together despite all this going on.

Did the SUN put out a list or just # of applicants

You must not have seen them play on the underclass levels? They have a qb/rb combo that will be at least as good or better than Brantley(Tulane) and Williams(A&M). King's talent pool is growing just like all the other schools that are currently in our district except for maybe Dayton. They're doing a lot of upgrades at the school but Sheldon ISD will just eventually need another high school once the Liberty subdivisions are finished and they'll also see enrollment increases as Generation Park is being completed. The kids in that whole area north of 90 between CE King prkwy dang near to John Ralston are trying to go to King now.

I believe Flannigan still does live in Crosby. The problem with GCCISD trying to get a good head coach is that they don't pay very much starting out, I believe the guy that took the Lee job started around $80k and Gerari was something similar. Hard to attract quality coaches around this area if you're going to pay Beaumont ISD salaries.

No way Jose, GCCISD is one of the highest paying jobs in the area and has been since the 80's. The teachers pay is way way higher according to the websites' salary schedules and the lowest paid head coach in the district is making 98k. So is there a list that will tell us which Beaumont coach it is, Haynes or Flanigan.

  5. If you include college and pro careers then you can only include Jamal Charles, Danny Gorer, Red Bryant, and Christine Michael etc. The best schools who pump out the most of those guys hands down in the area is West Brook, West Orange, and PA. If you don't include the pros then you can throw in some of the other kids like Tony Brown, the Franks kids, Beasley, etc. If you say just high school then you can throw in the kids like the ones from Crosby. I like all three arguments, its always fun to compare stats and athletes.

  6. WOW so all three of those kids put up those numbers in 12 games!!!! Crosby may be the Per Game Single Season Offensive capital of the world. you cant find anther school in the State and maybe country that has had that kind of production. Walter 225 Rushing yards per game, Haynes 350 Passing yards per game, and Beck 183 Receiving Yards per game. Thats impressive all coming out of 1 school in the past 15-20 years. Hats off to Crosby, no wonder they are getting to the semis these days.

  7. DFW parents and school districts pay for results. Teaching pay is higher plus Stipend pay is higher. Parents pay to put their kids in passing academies and personal coaches. So parents are investing more in their kids, and schools are  investing more in their programs, in turn you get more trained athletes on the whole, and the highest paid head coaches in the state, and by far the highest paid assistant coaches in the state. There are countless schools with indoors and multiple turf fields on one campus, weight rooms that can accommodate 400-500 kids at the same time. Not to mention the greatest football complex in the world is in DFW, they have home field because its the Football capital of the world PERIOD.

  8. Correct but the sentence before that though you can see i'm clearly referring to who you put on the schedule. I apologize for not laying it out more clearly and assuming you context clues would kick in. West Orange always has athletes, they have 6 leave but then 6 more show up every single year, bad example my man. Yes they have tradition but that tradition is they have some of the best athletes in the area every single year, like multiple players who started for nfl teams with super bowl rings type of athletes so dont give me youth leagues and tradition, Earl Thomas didnt ball because of youth leagues and tradition he balled because he is a phenomenal athlete. You guys are killing me here, I'm simply saying that as a coach if you don't have athletes of course you are going to schedule winnable games. I'm not implying that nothing else matters in a game of football. Im talking about creating a schedule.

  9. Of course there is more to the equation of who wins a football game Jock Strap, but when you are looking at scheduling from a coaches perspective, you don't think well I have worse athletes than all these teams but I will out coach and outwork them and win the turnover battle. If you constantly think you can overcome talent because you're a far superior coach then you are thinking with your other head and you're assuming your opponent isn't a good coach. I'm talking about the thought process behind creating your schedule as a coach because someone mentioned how weak the schedule was. You'd be an idiot to schedule Silsbee Barbers Hill and Crosby for pre district games because your district except maybe vidor also has superior athletes than you. So like i said when you're at lumberton you aren't winning the athlete battle so you better schedule games you can win or its 0-10 or 1-9 every year.

  10. 3-7 following 1-29 the previous three seasons. Would you schedule ass kickers following 1-29 the previous three seasons. if you do good luck keeping your job. Football wins are about athletes and scheduling. If you don't have athletes you better be good at scheduling or its gonna be a quick tenure. Or at Lumberton they will just fire anyways so i guess it really doesnt matter. Babin is following the 2 winningest coaches in Lumberton history only guys to win7 or morte games in a season in the history of the schools existence, and those guys had no leeway. Good luck to the new guy but even if he wins 5 games this year he loses all the seniors coming back. They have been hyping that group as the best since 08, then you're looking at sub par talent and a board thats not going to give you time. don't see how it can work unless they drop after realignment. Thats not bashing the coach thats pointing out history.

  11. Ive got it down to a delicious money saving science. You get the $10 free refill popcorntub and buy a bottled water itll run you about $13. They have like six different flavors you can sprinkle on top. get it filled once every game use a different flavor and you have snacks for all day, and if you plan your flavors right its like a new freshly popped snack every time, and  the water bottle can be refilled all day in the refreshingly cold water fountains found all over the stadium. But if you wanna go big, and stick it to Eagles fans, get the philly cheese steak BALL OUT!! You're welcome Texas.

  12. I haven't heard of one important kid that is leaving due to Babin's hiring. The bottom line is that the kids loved Haynes and were upset when he was let go. That's totally normal and speaks to what a great man/coach he is/was. As to the board agenda drama posts, in my opinion, there was a chance to bring back a coach they think will be around for an extended period and do well to boot. There wasn't an agenda against Haynes as he had the team headed in the right direction. It was a timing issue. Haynes isn't going to coach forever. He's retired once already. He was paid. Also, I'm hearing Babin will get to carry a larger coaching staff while retaining some of last year's staff. Babin had a chance to advance his career and come home. It was a no brainer. Some of these posts should be in the National Enquirer.

So why wouldn't they let Haynes carry a full staff but now when Babin comes in they let him hire new spots all the sudden. That right there shows the people pulling the strings didn't want to give Haynes a fair shot or do what is supposed to be done. How else can you explain them creating positions for one guy but taking them away from another. So these people who are Principals / Superintendents / Board Members can't honestly say they were doing there jobs with the students in that community's best interest. If you hire a coach he begs for more coaches and you make him coach with only 1 offensive varsity assistant coach, then he has a better season than the last 3 combined, Seniors all coming back, so lets fire him, bring in a new guy(not to bash Babin but fact is he has 140 less wins than Haynes) as an apparent upgrade, then say ok now that Haynes is gone you can hire a full staff. If that doesn't prove that someone who is making the decisions has extremely low character, and has a personal agenda that comes before doing right by the Students you are hired to serve, then everyone on this site is just playing nice and lying to themselves. How can you be in Administration and ask a coach to labor with ONLY 4 varsity assistants in 5A football in TEXAS then fire him and allow the next guy to bring in a full staff, and honestly say to yourself I'm good at my job and operate with type of ethics that student athletes can aspire to. That administration has some serious bipolar tendencies to say the least.

  13. Spot on, Ole' Skool
The agenda was intensified when the Lumberton board found out that Larry wanted out for Hardin. Yarbro and son was about ready to pack up & head to Hornet Land. We didn't care much for Babin, no way. He'll enjoy plenty of 1-9 / 2-8 seasons at Lumberton. I hope we hire somebody passionate and faithful this next go 'round.

Haynes never even applied at Hardin, so they ran him outta town based on a rumor.
