  1. I don't think you can call it the upset of the year. Lumberton was undefeated, and Dayton is now 1-3. No way.

took the words right out of my mouth... it's a nice win for lumberton, and maybe a huge upset in years past, but this year it's just a minor upset (especially since it looks like dayton may only win 3 or 4 games this year)

  2. Julie Foudy said that she wasn't sure that she'd want Hope Solo in goal behind her if she was still playing for the USWNT after the comments that Solo made about the game yesterday.  Solo said that she felt she would have made the saves on Brazil goals, and that Scurry should not have been started solely on what she had done in the past.  I'm inclined to agree with Hope, but i don't know if she should have said what she said.  How do you feel?

    this is what Hope said:

    this is what Foudy said:

P.S. some people on the ESPN message boards were saying Hope was hot.  This is clearly not the case... is it?

  3. What if HJ's quarterback, running back, and fullback hadn't gotten hurt in the 8th game of the season in 2001.  We started out 8-0, then lost two games by a total of 3 points and got our butts handed to us in the first round of the playoffs.  we had to play our last three games with little or no contributions from a 1,000 yard rusher, a 1,500 yard rusher, and a 1,000 yard passer.

  4. there was also an indoor place in longview, and it did pretty well, getting teams from tyler, marshall, and longview.  i was going to school in marshall, and our college team would get a couple of squads together and we'd go play, but soccer is a lot bigger down here with tons of players from lumberton, beaumont, nederland, and pn-g, and good amounts of players from vidor, silsbee, lcm, etc.

  5. i'm glad to hear that there are a couple of indoor options, but i don't know how available they will be to the average joe.  i went to lamar for a year and we got a pretty good club team together, and they would let us practice indoors in one of the gyms, but i wouldn't call it an indoor field.  i'm not sure what lamar has now. is the one at the lamar rec center an actual indoor soccer field, or just a gym where they let you play?

  6. I've been wondering why there is no indoor soccer field in the southeast texas area.  it seems to me that if there was one, it would do quite well.  you figure in girl and boy leagues for every age division up to age 18, and then college leagues, coed leagues, over30 leagues, and so on, and an indoor place would make some money.  on top of this, concessions, maybe some t-shirt and merchandise sales, and a small bar/restaurant, and it could be very profitable.  what do ya'll think?  I know i'd play in at least a couple of leagues myself.

  7. i think by 2010 we should have a team capable of making it to the quarters or semis, if we can avoid playing a top 3 team before that point.  that being said, we could always crap out like we did last year, especially if we continue to get the "quality" officiating that we've gotten over the past year or so.
