Slot t is the most success they've had offensively

Only because they don't know how to coach anything else. If they would have invested the same amount of time they invested into the slot-t into any other offense they could've had success in that offense as well . If you consider sub 500 successful. The slot-t will only develop slot-t type athletes because it is designed for non athletes , the drills and every within the system is non athletic.

  2. Mathews has the entire  community  brainwashed into thinking that the Slot-T is the only offense  that can be ran. Just because it's the only thing he knows how to coach doesn't mean its the only thing the kids can run  Just another way of keeping the Viduh/ Lumberton coaching familia together . Dude thinks he's Jerry Vance and has something worthy of passing down 😂🤣😅😆

It will come down to Dubois or Trahan (current oc).  Either one will run some variation of the Slot-T, the question will be, does the district want to go with an experienced head coach that is retired and looking to double up his pay or an assistant coach looking to make a name for himself.

Trahan the Ex girls softball coach turned OC ? That dude has no idea how to run that offense, he simply emulated what Crueder was doing when he was OC ! Crueders the one that forever changed the offense from methodical to unmethodical. At least DuBois could actually fix what Crueder and Trahan broke !

And they played against Central, Ozen, Nederland, PNG, etc. for almost the entirety of his time there.  Not really sure what your point is.  They played against bigger schools for like 20 of his 22 years.  And how long were they in 5A before he took over?  Also pertinent information.

West Brook and Central were different animals before Ozen came into existence and the BISD talent was split three ways Instead of two ways.  Can't compare them!

Vidor was larger in enrollment than png and equal in enrollment with Nederland during the time Mathews played them. They weren't bigger schools then us until after a few storms had people moving out of Vidor

Vidor had 12 winning seasons between 1940, their first year of football, and 1998.  so basically 12 winning seasons in 60 years.  Mathews had 11 winning seasons (plus two more .500 years) out of 24 seasons.  So for people to act like he wasn't good for Vidor, or that the school district should have fired him long ago, is simply laughable.  I think most of his detractors have something a little more personal, like they didn't start when they were at vidor, or maybe he didn't play their kid enough for their liking.

Vidor was in 22-5A with Beaumont Central , Westbrook, LaPorte, Deer Park, Lee & Sterling up until 1998. They dropped in 1999 , the same year Mathews took over. Its a variable one must consider when comparing before and after.

  6. Mathews was going to leave a few years back and DuBois was set to take over. That year Vidor found out they were dropping down to 4A so Mathews decided to stay because he thought he could make noise in a lower classification. Sadly DuBois gets handed the job

  7.    NO WAY Crueder is even being considered. He got booted from the OC position because he screwed up the offense soOoo bad and it still hasn't recovered. He did some good things at Lumberton for a couple years but he had some great players with Hannah , Beard & company. After those players graduated he was never successful again.

DuBois had two good years in Vidor but he had some great players (EX: Montana Quirante & Company). He also had a few good years at HJ but he had some really good players and never emulated the success after they graduated.

Mathews having a losing record and recommending other coaches with losing records is preposterous  He's sabotaging the process if this is the case. He shouldn't have a say.

These would be perfect hires for Mathews. If he hired a good coach that had instant success with this program using a different offensive strategy ,then that would prove his philosophy was wrong all along. He knows what he's doing plus all the homeboy assistants get to keep their jobs.

He was below .500 doing it his way. It's time for him let it go man, he had his chance and it didn't work.

Is this job still open? is it done deal with someone, I don't want to waste my time if they have their guy.

All signs this far lead to an inside hire or former Vidor OC. The reason for this assumption is that Mathews will keep his job until June and as stated ,he will be there to help the new coach with the acclimation . He also stated in a recent interview he will make at least one practice a week and be there for every game. A coach with a new system wouldn't need acclimation to his own system. Just an observation !
