  1. JASPER will stun some people before the year is out and post some huge upsets in SETX.
  2. H-F has the most favorable schedule remaining. How many wins do you all think it will take to lock up a playoff spot for 2nd & 3rd place in district?
  3. I think they will be better than expected. It will be interesting to see what changes the new coach makes. If he can push the right buttons, I think they'll compete for a playoff spot.
  4. Thanks to Silsbee, both team have a lot of motivation. Hats off to Coach Brooks and staff for making personnel changes that have given the program a tremendous spark. JASPER IS REALLY FEELING GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES RIGHT NOW-AND THAT'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE FROM LAST YEAR. The dawgs are on the prowl in 21-3A -BEWARE OF THE DAWGS.
  5. Dominique Bailey & Malcom Bronson of Jasper.
  6. Say the same thing you say about Sutherland, they are great coaches and deserving of such honors in their own right.
  7. Never underestimate tradition, leadership, and commitment-they have all these and that makes you competitive even when people think your down.
  8. Could Hamshire-Fannett make it interesting? Will Kirbyville's injuries set them up for an upset? WOS 2-0 Silsbee 2-0 Hamshire-Fannett 1-1 Kirbyville 1-1 Jasper 1-1 Hardin-Jefferson 1-1 Bridge City 0-2 Orangefield 0-2
  9. Jasper vs Silsbee Jasper vs Hardin-Jefferson Jasper vs WOS Jasper vs Kountze
  10. Many people point to the lack of overall speed and size on today's team. Also, from those who were a part of Jasper's great tradition feel as though the kids don't have the same drive and dedication, and as we know, kids today have become more selfish so it hard to develop team chemistry.
  11. I think the Kirbyville/Jasper game was huge in week 1 of district play. In week 2 of district play I believe its the Hardin-Jefferson/Hamshire-Fannett game. My reason for this I believe barring injury (especially small school Kirbyville) they will finish 1 or 2 in no particular order. I believe if Hardin-Jefferson pulls off a win here it gives them something to play for against Silsbee or Jasper and right now I think Jasper's confidence is way way down.
  12. THIS IS NOT A JOKE! I coache both girls and boys at a very small school and during my first two years there, more than half of my starters parents were on the school board, it went something liket this: Boys: #1 -School Board President's son #2 - School Boad Vice President's son #3-School Board President's son #4 - Vice Presdident of the school board's son Girls: #2 -Board Member's daughter #3-Board Secretary's daughter #4 - Vice President daughter It was like living in hell for those two years. It's good I enjoyed what I was doing because they could have ruined me as a young coach.
  13. Gamble's luck has finally run out. He's been in and out trouble throughout his coaching stops. I hope he gets it together as this has become all to familiar. I ask a traveling sports salesman as a young coach what are two things that I should watch for as a young coach. He told me more coaches have been ruined by the bottle than any other thing he knows of, and of course, stay away from the girls.
  14. Both teams were defeated by Newton by a good margin, with this in mind, who has the better team and why?
  15. As a result of this game, who do you all think is better, Jasper or Silsbee and why?
  16. Big 1A - Big Sandy Small 1A - Brookeland 2A - East Chambers 3A - Winner/Runner-up of 21-3A 4A - Ozen 5A - Anyone's guess
  17. Grizzly62, What's your logic? I am just curious as to why you think Jasper doesn't have a chance. My logic is last year Jasper was down and barely loss to Kirbyville and I think they will play much better and I think you'll see a better game plan.
  18. Jasper is open this week. Will this give them the edge when district play opens? When it counts, I am taking JASPER. What do you think?
  19. I think most us thought it would be close. Newton's scheme is very simple but efficient and they hit you in mouth, its not good enough for them to break in your house steal your tv, their going to steal you food and eat your table to; if you know what I mean. Barbay and his staff deseves much credit and their kids played very hard and intense. I would like to see Jasper develop some offensive identfy and it better happen fast as district is fast approaching.
  20. I heard Newton is pretty banged up. Is it true that eight players sat out against Crockett?
  21. He's probably a pretty good coach, but I bet he's had some pretty good players. This seems to be the winning combination. Another key point that some miss is a strong tradition. That's why ever after Sutherland left Kountze (even though the current coach is excellent), they still continue win and they won before him. I think and its my opinion, Coach Williams deserves better. STAND IN A COACHES SHOES FROM THE SIDELINE AND YOU WILL DISCOVER ITS MUCH EASIER TO COACH FROM THE STANDS!
  22. I have seen the spread provide great opportunities for schools over the past few years. The biggest drawback I've seen is that I think some coaches stay with it even when that type of personnel is no longer on their roster. For example, it requires a very unique quarterback in terms of athletic prowess and he must be a multiple threat. With all said, it's a very exciting offense and hard to defend when you have the personnel to run it.
  23. Same here! I enjoy football, but I am ready for the roundball.
