  1. Not understanding how the UIL works and moving for the wrong reason(s).
  2. Coach Young doesn't recruit.  The incident in Brookeland is so unfortunate, and I feel bad for Coach Stapert. The students and families made poor choices that will affect all involved.
  3. THE DAWGS WILL BE IN THE HUNT IN 18-3A. I THINK THEY WERE PICKED TO FINISH AROUND THE SAME SPOT LAST YEAR.
  4. Jasper is one of most complete teams I've seen in sometime. Barring injury the will go deep into the playoffs because they are solid on offense, defense, speciality teams and have an awesome strength and conditioning program (that's why you see fewer injuries this year). GO DAWGS!!!!!
  5. Lazeek, Like any serious fan, I just want the Jasper kids to get the credit and support we think they earned. We saw things on this site about one of our players and the team that were downright distasteful and untrue. It got to a point in which I didn't care to post. ALL KIDS IN SETX DESERVE RECOGNITION AND NO TEAM OR COACH IS GOOD WITHOUT GOOD PLAYERS.
  6. AggiesAreWe & Lazeek, The news just keeps getting better for the Dawgs. Today, they picked up a Jr. guard that led his 2A team to the the regional quarterfinals. Hey Aggie since many of you picked them to finish sixth or seventh in district last year and sixth or sevent this season, don't you think just making the playoffs this season would be a huge accomplishment -don't you? Oh we realize that replacing last year's seniors will be tough, but are they trying to build a team or a program down there?
  7. With an improved post game and the return of junior Scott Middleton who didn't play in the quarterfinals and the regional tournament they will be in mix. Here are some names you will hear a lot about. Sr. Anoir Walker 6-2 guard with great shooting range and wing span Jr. Garmarvis Kellum 6-2 guard with good sizes and athleticism (move-in from Dallas who played in a few JV games) Jr. Desmond Berry a 6-3 center who with Middleton will finally give Jasper the ability to score inside consistently. Jr. Kenyon Myers a 5-11 lefty who will give opponents fits with exceptional leaping ability and athleticism. Returnees: Josh Sells a 5-7 senior with good quickness and leapers Cedric McGill a 5-6 senior with you guest it, tremendous althleticism, quickness and competitness. Justim McCullough a 6-4 senior with great rebounding ability. Dimitric Brown a strong 6-2 post who got better as the season progress. Sleepers: Thomas Teagle a 5-9 junior and cousin of Terry Teagle who played in the NBA. He's an unbelievable athlete that give Jasper an opportunity to apply pressure Demarcus Collins a 5-7 athletic, freshman guard who can knock it down. Alex Coleman a 5-11 jr. and son of former Westbrook basketball coach Chris Coleman. He's competive, smart and can knock it down from beyong th arc. Jacquise Spikes the brother of Kwame Spikes, he's a very skilled dribbler who can also light em up. They counted out the DAWGS last year - You count on them being in the hunt again this season. LAZEEK SAVE THIS POST ALONG WITH YOURS, IT COULD SERVE AS EVIDENCE COME DISTRICT PLAY.
  8. Jasper will be in the mix again.
  9. The former Brookeland coach is the new head boys basketball coach at Hemphill.
  10. Got Heart and Land95, The offensive coaches mixed it well enough to get 43 points (Great Job!!!!). The DEFENSE was the problem, gutsy playcalling by Alvarez (and a couple of questionable calls by him when they were ahead by 15 almost had the Dawgs sending him thank you letters). For the last two years Jasper is experiencing a weird problem-usually the defense is much further along than the offense and that's not the case for Jasper. I also wonder if their quick scoring (spread offense) which puts their defense back on the filed a lot, is wearing on the defense late in the game.
  11. Allow your personnel and their athletic prowess determine what you run. If you run zone exclusively, consider the Syracuse 2-3 because it will help cover up the three point shot, guard penetration and you can take away a good post. By focusing on one thing and maybe doing different things out of it, this will allow your players to perfect in practice rather than running 4 or 5 defenses you don't have time to practice. A man defense is great but limit what you ask the players to do by coming up with a few solid principles. Good luck, but don't over coach (that's something that most coaches do) by falling into the notorious X & O trap.
  12. Jasper by 21 plus. Last year will become a distant memory; this is not the same team that lost to them last year.
  13. This guy is top-notch, a super motivator, a solid mentor and friend. How can you not play or work for a guy like this! GET'EM DAWGS!!!!!
  14. WOODVILLE. I don't know who the new coach will be, but with the 6-3 sophomore from Spurger moving there they will be tough in 2-A and could make a good run.
  15. Mustang, What if the baseball coach has won championship and has more seniority? What if the football coach is so consumed by his sport that he neglects other sports? What if the softball coach has a master's degree and has better organizational skills? What if the basketball coach has been more successful than the football coach? My point exactly, how should this be determined? Many people say the person in control of the "money sport"; which is most cases is the football (do you subtract the cost of equipment, travel and all the other associated expenses to determine this???) should be the AD, that to me borders on rewarding coach and giving a coach a bonus (postion/salary) that directly contrast the UIL rule of prohibiting a coach from receiving bonuse money (okay, far reach) but what do you think?
  16. Cardinal Supporter/Stangchain, Could you all let me know who you think should be the AD? I appreciate the responses, but I couldn't tell from your responses who you thought should be calling the shots. However, your post does a great job of posting what the role of this person should be. Thanks.
  17. With emphasis moving to developing "complete programs", should this be a position of neutrality and the person in this capacity not be a head coach of any sport?
  18. A win here would propel Jasper into what I think is going to be a great and exciting season for the dawgs.
  19. Much has been made about the success and or failure of teams playing 7 on 7 football and how some teams dominated teams in this league, but didn't do so during 11-man football in '07. So, can we truely gauge a team by what happened this summer in 7 on 7 and ? I appreciate your comments as we move closer to the start of a new FOOTBALL season.
  20. I appreciate the responses to this post and all the updates.
  21. A friend has left Apple Springs (near lufkin) and has taken the head baseball job at Sam Houston Hiigh School in Houston ISD. How challenging will the move from 1A to 5A be?
  22. Let us know what's going on there. Thanks!
  23. Bowles resigns from Woodville, moving North.
