  1. They (the Tyler news) said that Bullard is loaded, so this seems like a great move for Coach Hargraves. I drove through the area last year and like most towns, they seem to be growing. Good Luck!
  2. I hope it happens, it would be a BIG boost for basketball in an area in which there is a rich basketball tradition. I think the fan support would be great and how many kids in the Golden Triangle area would love the opportunity to see professionals play -I believe the fan support would be tremendous.
  3. Livingston's Sigler resigns. He is the former basketball coach for Silsbee High School. Does anyone know why he left?
  4. Look for one of the Paul's to get this one; Paul Johnson or Paul Essary as I am sure both men will receive strong consideration from Superintendent Gary Martel.
  5. Calobe Isaacs assistant boys coach at Dallardsville Big Sandy.
  6. I read today on Ktre.com that carthage coach leaves post.
  7. You're right, both teams are loaded but I will give Silsbee a slight edge. I wouldn't be suprised to see either one of them in Austin next year.
  8. First congratulation to Gary whom I admired as a young coach. He and his family were first class in my book. He is well connected and I am sure he will bring in a quality candidate.
  9. NO he will not be coaching the boys. The front-runner is Big Sandy assistant boys coach Calobe Isaacs. He is a worthy candidate and would do fine job there if chosen. A high character individual, comes from a fine family and has work his way through ranks. Good luck, I hope he gets it.
  10. Jasper will drug test all student-athletes and students who drive vehicles to school. They have also enacted a tougher dress code "common dress" for students in grades 5-12. I applaud the district. What do you think the impact of this will be, and should more school move in this direction?
  11. I'll stay with my early prediction. Barring an unforeseen injury to a key player(s) and one thing I want reveal unless it greatly affects their program, I want be suprised if they make a title run.
  12. Darrell Barbay will get it done. He's a solid football coach and I foresee this team getting much better under his leadership in 2008.
  13. Tiger90, While I totally disagree with your premise, I respect your point of view. On the field and as in most sports, the start and finish line apply to all, but this is not the case academically. My mother is a perfect example of this. She was the beneficiary of hand-me-down books and everything they received was "second class" so how could she compete with others who were always receiving the best that technology had to offer. Many years of inequality can't be wiped so easily, you see the start and finish lines have been different. Secondly, if Bush has No Child Left Behind, I guess my mother was the beneficiary of No Child Can Catch UP. In my humble opinion standarized test are bias because the interest, the exposure of affluent and indigent families is very different. Finally, inequality can only be overcome with equal access. No matter how many laws are passed, poor children will never attend better schools, because most will not be located in their communities and transportation will not available to them.
  14. Several parents and coaches have talked to me lately about kids specializing in one sport or another and I wanted to know what's your take on this and under what circumstances would you encourage a kid and or a parent to do this? Personally, I would never encourage a kid to play one sport, but I would support a parent if they made the decision to do so.
  15. Super kid, great athleticism, soild character and a rare find, the complete package.
  16. Some posters have commented on how school boards often meddle in school business as far as the hiring and firing of coaches for apparently, no good reason(s). Do you think school boards should be abolish as they exist today, and how would you replace these people or would the district personnel take on their function?
  17. Brookeland, Texas. They will be loaded and should make a run in the small school division.
  18. Coach Sloan must be the most underrated coach in the history of the game. I love watching his teams play, at times it looks like basketball 101.
  19. Broaddus (Barlett to Huntington) Spurger (Stapert to Kirbyville) Chireno Hemphill
  20. No, I am not talking about the SPURS. I was suprised at the number of coaches who were dressed so poorly at the TABC convention. If we want people to treat us like professionals, we need to dress and act like professionals. I commend THSCA for emphasizing a desire for coaches to dress more professionally-I know we can raise the standard.
  21. MUST READ: Roger Clemens and fifteen year old girl in hotel together. MUST READ: Roger Clemens has been giving her money for an unspecified period of time - WHY?
  22. What's the message? No freedom of speech allowed, the UIL is the almighty authority, we (the UIL) can impose any penalty we want and you have no recourse. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS RULING AND THINKS IT SETS A BAD PRECEDENCE.
  23. LOADED! They should be dang good with so many players returning. Last year's freshmen are strong-they're a legitmate contender for the state title.
