Randle and Frazier would be EXCELLENT catches for them...I heard Frazier will have some issues qualifying, but if they get those two, they could be JOB SAVERS in Austin!  ;)

Why bring Houston Yates into this argument? No one has even mentioned them this entire thread...Nederland has an excellent coach that has gotten about as much as he can out of the kids in that program...When order is restored in Port Arthur (and that will be very soon, by the way ;)) It will be back to normal in Nederland..Meaning victories will be few to none against the Memorials, Ozens, and Centrals of the SE Texas basketball world....I think you guys must face the reality, that program has reached it's plateau...Great run though...But they have SEEN their best basketball days over the past few years. Cherish it..

Thus the reason for the demise of the UT hoops program...The BEST players in Texas have signed with Kentucky, and the University of Texas has once again settled...The guy can play, but Texas could find better IMO.

Hey Dove, during our days at Ozen, we would make our reservations in Austin in OCTOBER!  8)...Monday and Tuesday at an undisclosed location and Wednesday thru Sunday at wherever the UIL placed us! It was not arrogance, we will just call it quiet confidence! ;)

Nederland wins this one at home....Central is talented, but they are ALWAYS talented, so this year is no different than other years..This team actually SHOULD win the region, but won't....ANOTHER TIE in district 20-4A... 8)...Just my two cents from far away! :D

The statement was made was that the players on the 2001 TEAM did not receive any scholarships, and I was simply refuting THAT statement.  It was NOT about the 2001 CLASS.

Truth is HJ played awful for 3 quarters, Silsbee was tougher, played harder and played with the energy to be up 30. However, you MUST give credit to Silsbee for causing HJ to play that way for most of the game. That NBA 3 point line had those kids shooting 30 footers as well. I also think that playing at Ford Park took away from this game tremendously. My two cents... 8)

Not true. In 1997 the area's BEST were still at Westbrook and Central. Huge misconception. You are incorrect in your assumption.

Excuse me Mr. Stevenash, but as I recall, Ozen High School WAS NOT an established program when a certain coach took over the program and in 4 years turned it into a STATE CHAMPION... ::) ::)...As a matter of fact it was a BRAND NEW HIGH SCHOOL with no seniors.... ::) ::)..I guess you just FORGOT about that one, huh?  8)

Two...Ozen and Central, with only Ozen winning a state championship...OK, in the ENTIRE Golden Triangle in the last 20 years? How many schools have won a title? 4...Ozen, HJ, Kountze, and Evadale...They aren't GIVING state titles away, man....They are very hard to come by...Nederland has done very well under Coach E., but to expect a state title out of them is a bit much...Not saying that it will NEVER happen, but look at the number of schools in this area over the last 20-25 years that HAVE...FOUR schools...They are not easy to come by my friend.

Yes, and I am telling you that expectations were not that great for NEDERLAND BASKETBALL for that very reason.  Coach E has gone above and beyond with that program.

Trust me, Coach English has surpassed that bar LONG ago in Nederland! They used to get beat by PA Lincoln by 60 and 70 points! I know we put 60+ on them while I was at Ozen...NOW they are competing for district titles and BEATING the Port Arthur team that is now 5A...I would say that bar is LONG GONE!

Hey Stevenash, think you can get me some quality seating for the HJ/Silsbee game at Ford Park? I have decided to go there on tomorrow night....Great experience last year... ;)

Guys, Coach English does a TREMENDOUS job, considering what he has to go through over there in Nederland.  I think that they should take a long, hard look at untying his hands with that basketball program just to see what it can be.  He is by far and away the best coach in 20-4A...And it shows...They just need to give him what he needs to be successful, or they will eventually lose him.
