  1. You will see the overall education go down, enrollment go down, crime go up all to save some pocket change in this district. .

I read this whole thread and if this statment is indeed true then your community has bigger issues than a few kids not playing sports.

Before folks begin comparing tutorial bus trips versus extracurricular you need to get a better grasp on funding.  Title I etc are federal funds designed for academic improvement.  Strict guidelines must be met to receive these funds.  I assure you football practice does not meet the criteria.  Also setting budgets is not based on the immediate economic situation.  Fuels may indeed be cheaper now but when school began they were not.  This topic has been discussed prior to today.

  2. Now if Mr. Yates wants to start conducting himself with a little more professionalism than that of a 10 year old.. I would have no problem with him... I do not see any of Coach Roc's assistants on this board talking trash about them or any other program.. That is for the fans to do not the coaches..

Agreed.  The nonsensical diatribe that gets spewed here and in the Ozen threads is nauseating.

  3. Tom Halliburton never ceases to amaze me. What is his motive for such an opinionated article when we are talking about a man's livelihood? I can understand the PNG faithful being unhappy with the coach and the season, but this article is extremely unprofessional in my opinion.

    Agreed!

For the board member who wants to relive the glory days of the 70s how about a reality check.  The game has changed but more importantly so have the kids.   What is it with this entitlement attitude a lot of programs have?  Far too often you read about how "good" certain groups of kids were in the pop warner leagues whether it be football, baseball, basketball, etc.  I see all the time on these forums of folks wanting the coach's head because" this group of kids won at (fill in the blank lower level.)  It is ridiculous. A lot of towns are cyclical.  You'll see years of doing well followed by years of being down.  Few teams stay on top forever.  The whole mid-south Jefferson county seems to be down to some degree.  Nederland, while still in the playoffs, has not been as dominant as in recent years.  Port Arthur doesn't seem to be able to be consistent nor does Ozen.  Maybe just maybe it isn't the coaching in these areas maybe other factors are in play here.  No that can't be it obviously these rag writers and former players know better than anyone else.

  4. Not a Soph.-- a Fr.-- Jacob Keefer from Silsbee.  Strong side Linebacker. This kid has done well this year. Hes made all the reads and the adjustments for a D that is still in the playoffs. He has Size and Speed. We don't have him for 2 more years.....we have him for 3.

Agreed.....I think we need to throw Prentice Lane in as well.  He will be a very good wr for the next 2 years.

The thing is Silsbee has some seriously good talent coming up.  This was supposed to be the down year.

  5. You know it is disheartening for someone to come on here and say that Silsbee must have played bad, that is the only way the game was close.

How about the fact that Huffman had two fumbles in the 3rd quarter with the wind that cost them the game? They had their best offensive linemen get hurt in the 3rd quarter and lost a starting safety in the 4th? No one mentions that at all because most of you have no idea, you see a box score and it automatically makes you an authority on the game.

Silsbee is a good football team, but so is Huffman. For anyone to get on this board and say otherwise makes you and IDIOT!

If you want to know a little about Huffman, talk to the HC and DC of Silsbee. I believe he said, "the most physical football team he has played all season."

Get off of your high-horse, I don't believe anyone said any squad  wasn't good.  As far as the Silsbee folks, we have seen quicker and more physical opponents this season and a lot of last night was the fault of our kids making some poor decisions.  That doesn't take anything away from Huffman.  They played hard.

  6. I put A Thread on here last night so we Deweyville Fans could talk about our football team and its coaches and some one deleted it Please leave this one. I really want to here from the people of Deweyville on the subject of our new coaching staff. I my self do not think any of the seniors or going to play for these coaches next year.Give me your thoughts

It is real simple....bashing coaches will not be tolerated.  Repeatedly this board has stated such.  If a tread has been deemed to cross the line it will be deleted.

  7. These coach bashing threads are getting ridiculous.  It is always easy to sit in the stands and think you can coach.  If these people who dedicate their lives/careers for the betterment of your children are inferior then how about you guys get a teaching certification and get on the sidelines.  I'm sure there won't be anyone critical of your decisions in the stands.

  8. Well as far as not making it past the 2nd or 3rd round, I unfortunetly would have to agree with you there.  Not meaning this in a bad way but the district WOS is in does not offer much competition which hurts WOS in the playoffs.  Again not wanting to offend any of the other schools, but the level of play, speed, strength and aggressiveness on the football field is not even close.

I vaguely remember an OT district game WOS narrowly escaped with this season.
