  1. Ya'll need to go read the post on Smoaky before making comments.  According to Smoaky, the policeman escorted her from the gym after the official signaled for him, she walked onto the court (not charged), she was recognized as being a fellow basketball official, etc. She still should be arrested, but know all the facts before ripping into other people.

Exactly.  Amazing how some folks instantly jump to one side of the fence without hearing the entire situation.  Calling for someone to lose their job based on a message board post is crazy.  With a big problem the UIL and can discipline a school.

  2. Gut says it failed.

If it does in fact fail I can honestly say the University didn't push hard enough for it.  We have been speculating here for months if not years and until just the past 6 weeks or so has the University officially really said anything about it.  Where would LU go from here?  The old mindset of basketball is "king" and we don't need football has been an abysmal failure.  It has taken LU 20 years to semi recover.  Without the added programs LU will not grow much larger than it is now nor will community support grow.  I'm an alumni and honestly this football thing is about the only thing LU has to even peak my interest in supporting.

Here's to hoping my gut is wrong.

  3. NA$CAR will give Toyota some success this season.  If nothing else they will make rule changes especially for them.  NASCAR has catered to whoever is dumping the most money into their coffers for years.  They have been loyal GM backers, but GM is having to pull back some money.  Dodge was coming on strong 4-5 years ago then all of a sudden NASCAR demanded they change their engine layout due to the big chevy owners (Hendricks, Gibbs, etc)complaining.  Much like the late 60s and early 70s when Mopar dominated with hemis etc NASCAR deemed them too powerful and mandated they change.  Anyone notice Dodge was dominant in the Craftsman truck series until they were forced to change......Dodge then basically quit their factory sponsorship.

  4. Obviously you misread my post if you take what I said as insulting Lumberton.  Lumberton as well as the other two schools I mentioned have been viewed as inferior for years.  Lumberton has taken lumps for years but as soon as it looked like they were going to make the playoffs the school pride swelled as did the community support.  That is what makes going to the playoffs does.  To answer the question, yes, making the playoffs regardless of record sets most smaller communities abuzz.  I will say it is sad however to see the big 5a schools, some here as well, not even go to their games.

In regards to more schools making it I understand the nonsense with a 5 team district, but with an 8 team powerhouse of a district it isn't fair either.  Like I stated if it is watered down then the "cookie can crumble" in a week.

  5. The term "scrub" is relative.  Judson proved if anything how unequal districts are.  Look no further than the local 3A district, the 4th and 5th place teams would have won the neighboring district's championship.  You'll never make everyone happy, but at least those in a strong district get a chance to "stretch their legs" outside of their district so to speak.  What difference does it really matter when after week one it should be apparent who should be in the playoffs and who shouldn't?  The system quickly corrects itself and allows programs to taste a little success.  The schools with perennial success probably really do not see the point and feel it waters down everything but to a program that rarely if ever gets the opportunity it is a tremendous feat for their program.  If a Vidor or Kountze were to make the playoffs it instantly boosts the program and community, look no further than what it did in Lumberton.

  6. I sense it will be a "name" coach that is past their prime but has the ability to create an immediate splash recruiting and via media.  This person will have connections and put together a solid foundation with good asst coaches and then turn the program over in 2-3 years to someone he has groomed.  I say this based on the contacts Tubbs has and the "money" people supporting the program.  I think we all know who those people are and their reputations are not to be associated with losing.
