The good days remembered. Memorial's problem isn't Talent, the problem is you can't simulate Pride & Tradition, something Memorial severely lacks. There was no other place many of us as kids would rather be than our HS Football games on Friday night. We couldn't drive ourselves, so our Parents took us to the games we speak of so fondly. PA kids parents loyalty & pride is split 3 ways, leaving 1 Memorial HS suffering from within the City Limits. I've lived in Beaumont for nearly 13 yrs and I attend as many Memorial Football & Basketball games as I can. My kids attend Ozen, some of the same Pride issues as PA going on here in Beaumont with the pride lines being split. I tell my kids often how unfortunate for them they didn't get to experience the Beauty of being a Proud Lincoln Bumblebee. I can't imagine being at any other School in any other Town. Nothing Like PA(the PA I remember)

I went to school and graduated from EC, but I was born in Port Arthur (moved to Winnie when I was 5). My dad was a die hard TJ grad and started taking me to Yellow Jacket games when I was 1 year old. Even after we moved to Winnie we went to the TJ games on Friday nights. I bled maroon and gold when I was a kid. When I started high school at EC I had probably attended as many if not more TJ games than any of the freshmen at TJ.

This begs the question. Do you miss the old Beaumont High Purples and South Park Greenies ? Beaumont, South Park and TJ had rivalries going back to 1909.

I saw the coolest parent t-shirt at a girls bidistrict volleyball game tonight. On the front it had the team logo. On the back it read: "Some people wait years to meet their favorite athlete....I raised mine".
I thought that was an awesome way to tell their daughter (and everyone else) how proud they were of their hard work and accomplishments.

Although my son and his team were knocked out of the playoff picture last Friday night, I suddenly realized this week will be his last HS practices and game.
We are very lucky that he will get to go on to pursue his education and play at the next level, but as he told me "Dad it just isn't the same as my HS team"
Got me thinking so I found this while surfing the web.

    Dear FOOTBALL PARENT,
You dreaded this year’s arrival, but it has come just the same. A year full of promise, but so many “last times.” Over the years you have helped with countless team meals, washed mounds of sweaty uniforms, chauffeured to more early morning practices then you care to remember. You have been top-of-the-world elated when your son has had a good night and endured his deathlike silences when he hasn’t. It is amazing how the family mood bobs with the rhythm of each game. You have laughed, cried, screamed, sulked, pouted, sweat, pulled your hair, bit your nails, bit your tongue, paced, worried, shoved, frowned, and smiled all very gracefully and within a two hour span.
Such is the life of a football parent.
You may not be in on the big play, but you feel the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat right along with your son. You keep your composure when some fan behind you wants your son’s head while the opponent on the field is mashing it into the grass. “Get off him, that's my baby” you’d like to shout! You breath football at this time of year, especially this time of year when your heart whispers “just a little longer” as the season slides by. You plead and bargain, knowing full well that some other parent on the opponent's team is making their own deal with the Almighty, but you do it anyway, because you no more want it to end than your son does. You do not want to see the desperation in his eyes and the pain on his face as he struggles to put away his childhood dreams. You are helpless in the stands, with no way to make it better.
    Is it worth it?
    YOU BET IT IS!
Every lost game sock, busy Friday night. Every recovering Saturday, every aspirin, every ruined hair do, hot bath, goose bumps, and every obnoxious fan and sports writer you’ve had to tolerate is worth it. The fun isn’t measured by how many times your son gets into the newspaper, the game, or what he does when he gets there. The fun - what makes those trips to the ER for the pigskin stitches all worthwhile, is watching a game, what a sport experience can do to convert your little boy into a young man. Watching him tackle the world and you have a front row seat.
You still see that rambunctious 5 yr old playing football in the yard. You bite your lip and hold back the tears because though you are fiercely proud of the young man he has become, you miss the boy. In fact you mourn for all the little boys. You have watched them grow up together, plot and scheme together, win and lose together. They have raided your kitchen, camped out in your basement, stole your heart. They are blessed with something they will never have again. They know it and you know it. So you pray that wonder will last another game, and then another, because as long as it does, you hang on to a piece of your boy for a bit longer. Watching him walk off that field one last time will be no less painful then giving birth to him all those years ago.
We will miss this group of young men.
We will miss watching them run on to the field like soldiers going to battle, the hi-fives after a great play, the chest slams after a great tackle, the celebrations over a big win and the sober faces after a disappointing loss. We will miss watching the boys we love, play the game they love.....Football.

Since I have not seen either team this year, I'm not in a position to judge either based on the "eye test". Based on what I have gleaned from the discussions regarding these two teams during the year, this is my take on the game:
With the exception of two games the teams have played the same schedule. I'm not sure how big of a difference there is in playing Hamshire-Fannett and Orangefield, but Bridge City is definitely a better opponent than Tarkington. That would give Kirbyville a bit of an edge in schedule, but it was one game and early in the season. Probably not a major factor at this point (at least in my mind). Kirbyville's forte appears to be offense. Great offensive numbers this year but will probably find it more difficult to move the ball and score on the East Chambers defense than most any they have faced this year. East Chamber's forte has been defense. Great defensive numbers this year but will probably find it more difficult to stop Kirbyville's offense than most any they've faced this year. The Kirbyville defense and East Chambers offense don't get as much credit as the Kirbyville offense and East Chambers defense, but neither appears to be a glaring weakness. This game could come down to which teams strength is able to get the upper hand. Likewise, the strengths could even each other out and it could come down to the match-up between the Kville O and EC D. I don't really think either team will win dominating just on offense or defense. The team that has most complete performance on both sides of the ball is going to come out on top. Add the third side of the ball: This could easily be a game that is so evenly matched that it turns on special teams. I just don't know enough about the special teams units of the two teams to know how they might factor in. Of course I could have just been wasting my time typing this.....I have been wrong plenty of time in the past...LOL

I absolutely love everything about what  PNG is & how well they are supported=none better I've ever seen, but on the fb field I promise Dayt fears nobody.Look back yrs, playing great teams early/many larger class than we prepares & finds talent under pressure.Every year posters say"whats wrong w/Dayt=my answer=Nothing, 22 or less srs every year.Takes time to develop younger kiddos but we plug em into reality.Scrimmages help to Friendswoods a 6a playoff team,5a former power,FB Elkins/Angleton/Aldine Ike/former real Bay City Blackcats/more recent CV.I like BF as a coach, play up on early sch vs great teams w/big enrollment(size/speed)if you win/lose you learn=works for NS,Ned & WOS & Newton & recent Crosby

Prayers! So glad they got him to the hospital.
I was wondering why I didn't see him get injured. Tough young man to get right back out there and continue on. So many of these guys don't want to let the team down. I hope all the players know to take care of themselves. Some injuries are serious and could be life threatening. Your life is worth so much more than a football game.
