  1. Will be interesting to see who the replacement is and their resume.
  2. Would be nice to see some updated photos of the stadium and turf progress. You can hardly call the Construction blog on lamarcardinals.com a blog. There are two posts...not a blog.
  3. Agree...and in a city that does not have an SLC team. I'm all for rotating the entire tournament each year. At least give the revenue to the cities in the SLC that can host. (ie. facilities and hotel availability) SLC is run by idiots anyway.
  4. I was told the chairbacks would be at least $100 a seat per game. Also, those seats will have at least a $1000 to $1500 PSL to each seat. No way...I think someone is sharing some bad information with you. Season tickets will go for about 90-100 bucks TOTAL. That will include all of the home games. PSL's on the other hand may run a little higher but not in the 1000-1500 range... LU will ask for donations for first come season ticket preference. They may give folks that 'donate to the scholarship fund' first priority and that will be it. After that season tickets will be available for 90-100 bucks. If you want first choice, donate as much as you can afford to the scholarship fund and you'll get first pick. Works pretty much the same way throughout college football. There isn't really a PSL. So you are telling me that I can purchase a chairback seat for all the home games for just $100?? That's just $17 a game!!! No way!! I believe the chairbacks will go for at least $40-$50 a game. Yep. SHSU chairbacks go for $75. I'm not sure LU can get too much higher...but maybe. McNeese is $102.

  7. Haven't made up my mind if 'protecting' the Lamar name is a good idea or not. As a graduate of Lamar University - Beaumont, I have a tie to the name. However, there are so many Lamar 'name' affiliations it gets confusing. With all the Lamar High Schools and the Lamar Institute of Technology (LiT), Lamar State College, and, and, and...maybe a name change wouldn't be too bad. Not to mention most folks don't even have a clue where Lamar University is once you get outside the SLC. While I wouldn't want to see Lamar absorbed and the name changed to The University of Texas at Beaumont, or Texas A&M - Beaumont, I wouldn't mind seeing "The University of Southeast Texas" or "Southeast Texas State University". Quite frankly, I'm tired of picking up the Chronicle and trying to figure out of the article on Lamar is for the University or for the local High School. And which local Lamar High School. This occurs in other parts of the state too. There is a Lamar HS in every region of the state, even a Lamar Consolidated ISD. Same thing applies to Sam Houston and SFA...
  8. Great advertising for Katy...the tourney is still poorly attended though. 1200 hotel nights (300 rooms per night) is pretty weak for a four day event in a facility that seats thousands. ???
  9. Good article. Interesting subtopic at the end re: SLU cuts: "* A worst-case scenario situation has SLU putting two sports on the chopping block, according to a proposed budget-reduction plan put forth by the institution. Southeastern, like other schools in the state, were told to prepare for large budget cuts and while the state legislature could reduce said cuts, plans had to be made. "
  10. The really sad part is that if they drop athletics, enrollment tends to drop. In turn less students means an eventual uptick in tuition prices. While they might save the $96/semester now, future students will likely end up picking up the tab at a higher rate. Might as well call it New Orleans Community College now.
  11. FYI, there is no vaccine for this strain of the flu. The cause for concern is that this is a new strain of flu that can mutate quite rapidly and become more resistant to anti-virals like Tamiflu with each case. The H1N1 you're seeing in folks today is not the same as what will be out there in a month. We have no natural immunity to this version of the flu and there is no vaccine. If we're all lucky this will die out in the next month and there will be a new vaccine available for it in the Fall.
  12. All of these schools are already D1. What are you referring to? Are you referring to the 15 sport minimum the Sun Belt Conference requires?
  13. A bad joke on my part. UH avgs around 20k, Rice around 14k give or take a hurricane and accurate reporting.
  14. I absolutely agree with you coach. Especially at Rice and SMU where the alumni base is extremely small. UH is still trying to figure out what to do with the attendance problems with such a huge alumni base in Houston. Many point to concerns about the neighborhood that Robertson stadium is in to the facilities, etc.,etc. Some are valid, but others just don't pan out. The Dynamo draws big crowds in the same stadium. Even when UH is doing well (and they're exciting to watch), the folks just don't come out to the games.
  15. While I get your point UNLV, it doesn't equate to: 1980 UH Football Attendance: 300 2008 UH Football Attendance: 300 1980 Rice Football Attendance: 50 (mostly band members) 2008 Rice Football Attendance: 52 (and a winning season)
  16. You're comparing Houston to the 80's? 20 years ago? The Astros averaged about 15k per game in the Astrodome during the 80's. Since 1997 the Astros average over 34k per game. Attendance has jumped from an annual avg of about 900k to more than 3million per year now. The Texans have averaged 70k per game, the Oilers never had those numbers in the 80s. The Rockets attendance in the 80's averaged around 9k per game, in the past 10 years that number has jumped to 15k on average. Houston also has many more professional sports to choose from than it did in the 80's as well, MLS Houston Dynamo, AHL Houston Aeros. Try attending an international soccer event here in Houston. If Houston is not a sports town, you would not have seen the 2008 Mens Basketball Regional in Houston and again in 2010 with the Final Four in Houston in 2011 and 2016. Even the Texas Bowl with it's crappy teams over the years has seen attendance of 52k, 62k, and 58k the last three years. Things have changed a bit since the 80's...except at UH and Rice...I'll give you that...but thats the alum and students.
  17. I don't know about including Houston in that. Texans suck and every game has been sold out since day 1. Rockets - good luck getting a ticket, and the Astros well they haven't shown up for a game all year and are still drawing decent crowds. UH and Rice are different stories and you could say Houston is a bad college sports town in relation to those two universities. However, try trekking down Hwy 290 towards Austin or towards College Station when UT or A&M have home games. I'd be willing to bet that a very high percentage of those fans are from Houston. People tend to support their alma mater in college sports. Folks aren't going to go see Rice play just because it's in Houston. I'd drive to Beaumont to see LU play football, but I could give a flip about UH or Rice. Didn't go there, don't care.
  18. Couple of articles and photos in the April version of Cardinal Cadence on Football. In one article it says work on the stadium is scheduled to start in April: [Hidden Content]
  19. Sorry, I meant to put PSL. Ah, ok. Thought maybe LU was going to allow folks to put their name on seats (not unheard of) for a fee. I know of no colleges that have instituted a PSL like the pros do. However, most call it a 'donation' which generally goes to scholarships, stadium improvements, etc.,etc. I'm guessing they'll give 'preferred status' for those that want season tickets when they donate some minimum dollar amount..
  20. Terror I do not believe it is a cut. In Dec 2008 the THECB required Lamar University to break out the allocation for Lamar Institute of Technology from the main Lamar University allocation. By breaking them out, you'll see a decrease in LU and an increase in LIT. Using the breakout formula it actually caused a net reduction between the two locations of about 500k based on the formula which includes many things (ie. facilities, condition of facilities, etc.,etc.) The better the condition of facilities the lower the allocation. Note: LU has had many upgrades in the last few years and insurance from Rita and Ike damage has helped improve facilities too. If you want to read about all the allocations/reallocation you can find the info here: [Hidden Content]
  21. What is a PNL? Private Naming License? Perhaps LU is going to allow folks to name seats for $1000, unrelated to season ticket sales. LU may charge a PSL (Private Seat License) like the Pros do. Season tickets however for reserved seatback will probably be in the 90-125.00 range for 5-6 home games. Thats total. Best seats at TxState are 99 for the season and SHSU is 100. Doubt LU is going to charge any more than that. General Admission season tickets will probably be far less.
  22. What is the significance of the PA News running this story again? Not enough depressing things going on in PA these days? Gotta try to drag something else down like LU Football (a positive in the area)?
