  1. Me too, but getting updates from my sister-in-law. 7 -2 Buna.
  2. BC is likely to regret this move. I for one would certainly be concerned about applying...
  3. Texas beats Texas A&M 15-9 at Big 12 tourney Associated Press OKLAHOMA CITY — David Hernandez hit a three-run homer as Texas jumped on Texas A&M for seven first-inning runs and held on for a 15-9 win over the Aggies on Thursday in pool play of the Big 12 Conference baseball tournament. Texas (35-20) remained alive for a potential berth in the tournament's championship game, while top-seeded Texas A&M (42-16) continued its late-season nosedive, losing its eighth straight game. Texas closed the regular season by sweeping a series at Texas A&M. Hernandez's shot off Texas A&M starter Brooks Raley (7-1), along with a two-run triple by Kyle Russell, highlighted the Longhorns' first-inning outburst, during which they had six hits. Texas added three more runs in the second — chasing Raley — and two more in the third to take a 12-0 lead. Texas A&M rallied with a six-run sixth inning, but Texas' Brandon Belt answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Belt finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs. All but one Texas starter contributed to the team's total of 17 hits. Nick Fleece led the Aggies, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs, two on a seventh-inning home run. Texas starter Austin Wood (5-3) allowed seven hits and six runs in 5 1/3 innings.
  4. I'd have to think that somewhere along the way in this process that LU has had discussions about their plans with the SLC. I'd even venture to guess that the SLC would likely want to accomodate LU as much as possible. I'm sure there is a contingency plan at the SLC for working LU into the mix in an earlier timeframe. Just my opinion.
  5. Thanks Terror. Good info to know about the moratorium (I didn't keep up with many of those posts until recently). I certainly don't want to spread any misinformation...enough of that going on
  6. Lamar averaged about 6K per game when Lamar was independent and everyone knew they would probably do away with football, plus the local economy was in the pits with unemployment over 9% and people were leaving SETX. Compare 5,999 to what the schools in the SLC averaged last year: McNeese: 12,819 Texas State: 11,408 Central Ark: 10,283 SHSU: 9,627 SFA: 8,480 NW State: 7,977 Nicholls: 5,383 SELA: 4,951 Lamar wouldn't even be last in attendance. Now Lamar has a steady source of income to help support football, the local economy is healthy and will stay healthy for a while, Lamar's financial situation is vastly superior than back then, Lamar is guaranteed a conference to play, and Lamar will have top-notch facilities now. Football will definitely prosper this time around. Some interesting attendance figures that plays into the FBS requirements. Unless it has changed recently, in order to be FBS there are stringent attendance requirements (these may have changed recently): Beginning August 1, 2004, institutions were required to show the necessary degree of public support by averaging 15,000 in actual attendance (as opposed to paid attendance) each year. There was philosophical disagreement among Division I-FBS institutions as to whether or not public support measured by attendance at home football games is an appropriate criteria for determining an institution’s Division I-FBS status. Another concern was that linking Division I-FBS membership status to actual attendance was linking an important institutional identity to something outside the control of the institution. In response to these concerns, the Division I Board of Directors adopted Proposal 2005-20, with an August 1, 2005 effective date. This rule requires that Division I-FBS institutions annually average at least 15,000 in actual or paid attendance for all home football contests once every two years. This new rule reinforced the philosophy that public support is an important component of Division I-FBS membership: it also provided relief from the 2004 attendance requirements and continued to distinguish Division I-FBS institutions from the less rigorous membership requirements to field a Division I-FCS football team.
  7. Interesting: "Among Woodard’s strongest non-coaching backers, meanwhile, is one of Lamar’s biggest financial boosters, Walter Umphrey. The high powered Beaumont attorney, who has been extremely generous in his donations to LU, admits Woodard won him over during a 30-minute visit when he was on his way to a meeting with Tubbs."
  8. I have to agree with you on this one. Whether we like it or not, I-AA does not exist and media should not be using this terminology any longer.
  9. Something else really stood out from the press conference that I'm not sure was discussed was his ability not only to recruit in SE Texas, but Dallas, Central Texas, and Houston. We've been talking in terms of SE Texas, but he has ties to Dallas, Houston, and Austin.
  10. I'm not sure after what I've read that there was any choice better than this one! Walk-ons in the Fall of 09.
  11. Congrats and welcome to Coach Woodard! I'm glad you're here!
  12. He's got my support. Seems like the right guy. Go Big Red.
