  1. Just not their year...i think  Stang fans will have to come back down to earth. No one wanted to hear what people were saying earlier this year. The writing was on the wall from day one against vidor... when they got shut out. Hell Bridge City shut them down for a half.  They'll be much improved next year with the experience of what it takes. I knew they weren't going to be as good as years before,  but this is kind of shocking

But of course, if the DAWGS hold on to win. It will be "Mustangs not as good as they usually are." Personally I don't care! Anytime we can get a win against the silver and blue I will take it!

If you think this is a typical WOS team then I can't help you. JASPER SHOULD win this game! Pick on the Ponies this year, get your licks in...because next year these will be full grown STANGS!

  3. ...and saying there's no point in playing a school bigger or smaller than you is crazy. So Carthage, WOS, Gilmer, Sweetwater, Argyle all need to play schools their size? In most years these schools would go 4 deep in the playoffs in 5A....especially Carthage. Getting your athletes hurt?? Deionte Thompson can play for Alabama but he might get hurt playing WB or PAM...get out of here with that. That is what WOS does and that is why that program is what it is...NO BACK DOWN!

Newton has 7 players going to major D1 shcools but they can't be on the field with Crosby or PAM

I'll tell you one thing...get your shots in on WOS this year because they are ponies, but next year they will be full grown Stangs!

I don't see any of these posts coming from Newton fans. My daddy can whip your daddy, my brother can whip your brother.............We ,Newton people, know we can be beat.

this is just fun and games...but by your rationale they should just stop espn because that whole show is speculation on what people think will happen. Come on lighten up

They hung with Crosby and it went down hill for them in the 2nd half. Which makes sense, because they are working with probably 1/3 of the numbers. Which is an argument as to why Newton wouldn't beat PAM. Eventually the numbers and fresh athletes would wear on the smaller schools.

That would not be the case in a PAM vs Crosby match up

Ain’t nobody beating Newton they too good this year Barlow and Brown are head and shoulders better than everyone in the area and Slyvester is a 5 Star DE Kid is a physical speciement and we gotta stop throwing out Memorial and Westbrook as if they are just so great they have never won a thing and always early exit in playoffs let Newton have there light

You don't seem to get it. WOS this year, is probably the weakest most inexperienced team they have had in the past 5 years. Hanging with Crosby for 3 quarters was good! Now if you take the "past" 3 teams WOS has had and matched them with Crosby, PAM etc... this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion. The numbers didn't catch up to WOS...the inexperience did. The only team I think that would handle Newton is SETX this year...only this year is WB.

and on a side note...how old are you people? Does anyone on here remember WOS going toe to toe with WB over the years and winning their fair share? Or did everyone forget that? So if the numbers didn't matter then, why do they matter now? People get so caught up with how many jerseys are standing on the sideline. No coach goes three deep in a game at any one position...No coach! And in a tight game you may go 2 deep every now and then but very selectively. Just because you have 60 suited out doesn't mean all 60 play...geez.

So why doesn’t ET3 take all of the snaps on O and D? Heck, special teams, too. I mean, he used to run the Mustang Mile.

I can't speak to that. I am just telling you what I and others experienced playing for WOS. Westbrook, Central, Aldine MacArthur (#2 in the nation at the time) have all had 30+ players more than us. What people don't understand, is that MOST good coaches aren't just throwing bodies out on the field unless you can play. Hardly ANYONE goes 2-3 deep at a position in a game especially a tight game...this is not LCM or Bridge City where everyone plays because they got a helmet LOL.

It’s not the D1s that are the weak link. There’s a reason that “D1s” at bigger schools don’t play both ways. They have OPTIONS, which is something that Newton doesn’t have.

I don’t care who your offer is from, if you have to line up as a receiver against a good CB and then turn around and try to cover a fresh D1 receiver series after series, both of those guys are gonna make you look silly in the second half.

Same goes for the lines. Playing both ways works fine against smaller schools. It even works well enough against mediocre big schools.

When you run into a team that has a few decent players like Newton has, AND an abundance of kids that match up well with Newton beyond the skill positions, Newton would lose every time. It’s just the way things work in the real world.

tired agrument...WOS been doing it for years

Not necessarily...WOS been doing it for years.Unless you're use to playing that way, you wouldn't and don't understand. I went through the program at WOS and the number of people suited out on the other side NEVER phased us.

Why even go play football anymore. Let’s just let the computer decide who will win the state championship. No one is allowed to play football anymore. We will all go by Calpreps. I’m sure that website had Nederland losing to both WOS and United.

    2 hours ago, Cactus said:

Agree.. calpreps  are close on most games . Go look at games already played and check for yourself.

Nope it had Nederland 19-17 over WOS... actual score 19-18 also had Nederland 27-7 over United...lol

    NEXT....

I just cant see this PAM defense giving up 40 to anyone let alone a team 4 time smaller than them. Newton my have some athletes but dont forget Pam have them also.

I'll take the computers on this... It has been pretty spot on for the most part

people forget WOS use to beat up on 5A schools back in the day with 30-35 varsity players (Westbrook, Central, Aldine MacArthur (ranked #2 in the NATION at the time). Don't put too much in school size. You can only put 11 on the field at a time.

  10. People finally realizing what truth speakers have been saying...this is a young team still trying to grow. I know everyone was thumping their chest about taking out WOS but now we see they are taking down a team that is just inexperienced at this level. Shut out by BC the whole second half?? Are you kidding?  A bad BC team at that. They got throttled by Silsbee and Jasper. That Vidor scrimmage shows some truth now when you shed some light on it. And for the record, speaking truth does not mean you don't support the team.

No I've said Nederland and netwon were the better that  that night and made more plays the we did. My point is we didn't lose because we r young or whatever people say for copouts, we lost because we just didn't get it done and they did

So every team, every year, whether they lose 20 senior starters or 1 starter WOS trots out the same team with NO drop off in talent or "experience"? Essentially that's what you're saying. So inexperience is not an excuse or for that matter even a factor? You can't be serious. The reason those routine plays were not made on those nights, is because of those things not in spite of. You do know that right? That's why and how teams improve. It's ok to admit that.

Newton was just better...BECAUSE of the experience and senior leadership...that was the difference...come on man.

  12. It's funny when WOS is winning and everyone else says in years past "well if we would've made this play or that play we would've beat WOS"...and WOS fans say well you had your chances buddy move on, you didn't make the plays...you lost. NOW the tables are turned and it's WOS fans making that SAME tired excuse..."If we would've made that play or this play we would be GREAT!!! We would be 3-0! Funny when the shoe is on the other foot. Every team that comes out of WOS is not equal just because their helmets are silver and blue. If some of you can't admit that, then there's no need to argue the point.
