Spurger has the best club by far but HD can be a tough place to play. -

West Hardin vs. Evadale predictions?

I think Jason Wilkins is the coach over there now.If he is it's great to see some of these young coachs coming home.I think Evadale can split with SP but I dont think the Sharks will lose 4.I can see both clubs finishing at 7-3 and playing off for the second spot. -

I don't think little dribblers hurts by any stretch but it's not responsible for success once you get to the high school level.I think for the kids to be successful in high school it's all about staying in the gym throughout the off season.Spurger went to the regional finals 2 years ago with a very good group and a different coach.Phillip Whittacre,JT Sheffield and Coach Stappert were the main cogs in that wheel.I will agree with ya 100% about the coach they have now ,he is doing a great job.Spurger will be lucky to keep him.I think this group has the potential to go at least as far as the regional tourney and then anything can happen when you get there.I hope the fans over there really get behind them ,they are fun to watch. -

Spurger has been good the last 4 or 5 years because they have had a group, actually 2 groups, that work hard and play alot throughout the summer.I'll agree they may have a little advantage early in the season but by this time of year everybody should be about equal. The only thing that may hurt the Pirates in the playoffs is depth.I was surprised to only see 3 players on the bench the other night and foul trouble could be an issue down the road. -

Just seeing if Matt was still watching the board. He could definitely play, just messing with him a little bit.Got to visit with Matt while he was in for the holidays and he seems to be doing well.Wish him nothing but the best. -

For the most part I agree totally with your game summary. This entire game for the Sharks was whoever got the ball went 1 on 5 and forced everything. No floor spacing,no passing and absoluely no defense. The only 2 players I saw for SP that were a factor were#30 and #25 and they are going to have to be given some help on screens to win against the good teams.#10 isn't a bad player but only can shoot the wide open set shot,he isn't going to score on his own.I was surprised that with all the returning players he Sharks haven't gotten any better. -
Honestly the only thing standing in our way of austin is New Waverly... but after this year it will prolly be two years before Kountze makes a big run at the title again.
Kountze is good but you never know what's out there.Always some good clubs around Tyler.Gotta agree with AAW they better win it this year. -

I know Daniel can shoot it a lot better than he did last night.McGallion doesn't have to shoot the 3 for Spurger to win.If he passes the ball like he did last night and Whittacre plays the post like he did and Daniel is anywhere close to his game this matchup isn't even close. It was still a 17 point win and would have been 20 if not for a silly foul on a last second 3.The first thing SP will have to do to even stay close is collapse on George and make the Pirates shoot from outside.I believe the Evadale game with the sharks will be close. -
Either one will get you beat but you can score if you have a good defensive club off the break and still have a chance to win.A good shooting team that trades baskets and plays soft defense won't be successful because shooters will have some off nights. That's a long way of saying a good defensive team gives you a better shot at winning.

Your right about Spurger they are gonna be solid, especially if they get the injured kid back. The other kids have gotten a lot of experience while the Pirates had injuries and that will help down the road. The SP players almost looked confused last night running the press.I don't think they are quick enough to press the Spurger club.I'm gonna watch the SP/Evadale game I think it's going to be real close, especially at Evadale. -
WHS alum where is ur list for the warriors?
Warren doesn't have a rich basketball history as of late but they used to put some really god teams on the floor. If I had to make a list it would have a lot of old schoolers on it: 1-The Whites-Reuben,Daniel,Wayne and Jessie.Throw in a couple of sisters and they beat most teams. 2-Jessie and James Wolf. Two great high school players who went on to the NFL. 3-Jimmy Rawls-He played in the late 60's I believe and could score 50 on any given night. 4-Johnathan McNeal-Big guy with a soft shot who could fill it up. 5-Jacob Terrell-Great player on a average club. 6-Jerrod Walles-Spent more time on baseball/football but was the real deal. 7-Alan Danos-Didn't play but 1 year but was the piece that made Warren go. 8-Paul Sims-Shot over 80% from the FT line and over 40% from behind the arc for his career. 9-Fred Dunham-PG-Could single handidly beat the press. These guys are not intended to be in any particular order but if I had to pick 1 as the best it would we Reuben White. This guy cut 4 fingers severely on his right hand in an ag shop accident and learned to play lefthanded and never missed a beat. -

Athletic competition does both build and reveal character. These type issues can usually be traced back to whoever is sitting on the end of the bench. This isn't someting that just surfaces 20 games into the season,it's an issue that wasn't addressed and spiraled out of control.Nothing that happens on the BISD sports front can surprise me.This school district needs to get a grip and it needs to start at the very top. -
You gotta lok at the total package at HJ. I got to take a quick tour of the school during HJ tournament and the new school is absolutely amazing. The only down side to the gym is seating size but it's no dump by any stretch.
-
Nobody in this district is even close to the Lions.I have watched Kountze several times over the years in Austin and have never seen them have trouble with the officials.I'll have to give Devin a little slack this year because his attitude is light years ahead of where it used to be.Make no mistake about the Kountze coach,he is the captain of that ship and regardless of what star is coming thru the program they know it.Duane is the real deal and the Lions are lucky to have him.

FINAL---SPURGER 69 SABINE PASS 52
whsalum replied to court side's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Yep, I guess the final is all that matters.I was hoping to see the same type game I saw there last year.I think two things have happened here.Spurger has matured as team and the Sharks aren't quite as good as they were last year.I think the strength of schedule has played a huge part in Spurgers success last night. After games against Cleveland and Silsbee the SP press had absolutely no effect last night.I stll think the Sharks will make the playoffs but it will be a battle for second if they don't get some type of offensive scheme that gets their two shooters some help off screens. -
They need to recruit another McKinney ;D ;D ;D

Dang my computer was down the last part of the week,I didn't know you started a pic em.

Gotta say I'm gonna miss the atmosphere of the old one but the new digs are certainly top notch.

We must have watched 2 different games. The Sharks have a couple of pretty good ball players but have no rhyme or reason on the offensive end.Spurger came out in a zone early and SP attempted to beat it off the dribble. When that didn't work whoever got the ball shot the 3.At about the 4 minute mark in the 4th the pirates were up by 20 and relaxed a little on defense.Sabine Pass hit a few 3's before the Pirates called time out and quickly went back up by 20.This could have easily been a 30 point game. The young guy on the Spurger bench does a great job of working a game. -
Say it ain't so CATMAN.I don't know if I've ever seen Big Sandy at 0-2.They must be young this year.
-
If Ricossa is back at 100% the 2 games with Silsbee and HJ will be a lot of fun to watch.
-
Warren has absolutely no offensive threat this year. They play hard but are real small and don't shoot the ball well and thats a tough combination to deal with..
