1. The biggest mistake was for the officials to let the game continue after the first fight of any magnitude. A little pushing and shoving with offsetting penalties is one thing. The game should have been called immediatly after the first brawl. I wasn't there but from what I'm reading to let that game continue after a lengthy fight created a dangerous situation. If a kid, coach, official  cop, or spectator would have been badly injured or died from such the worst consequence would have been the impact on that person or family. Both sides would be guilty of contributing to bad business. I really don't think the UIL will do anything except slap wrists. This incident should never have gotten to the second round.
 2. Nederland had some down years on the field and lost some support in the stands. Just like players learn the old/new offense and use it with success, fans probably learn to be real fans. The parents of whoever are currently participating will be supporting their kids this year, (players, drill team, cheerleaders, and others) may or may not ever attend another game after the kids graduate. I understand this but wish it weren't that way. There were more fans this year than previous several years because the team is winning. Some of us have attended most games for 50  years through the good times and the bad, and are hard core fans because of love for the game. Contrary to some opinions it isn't a good thing to be very loud when your team is on offense. I believe the team is in an upswing talent wise for the next couple or so years and will draw a better crowd. Football from any point of view is an entertainment thing, and people treat it as such. The more entertainment the bigger and louder the crowd. Give the fans a little time watching success and they will come around.
 3.
Taunting should draw a flag for unsportsman like conduct every time, If the ref's saw a player taunting another teams coaches it should have been a 15 yd penalty after the half. The UIL needs to take action on taunting and do it this off season, make it clear to the ref's this will not be tolerated whether it is towards a player, a coach or the fans.
When this becomes acceptable, and evidently encouraged behavior by a coaching staff It makes me wonder why the district administrators tolerate these actions. It sets bad examples for kids whether they're a part of it or witness it. Someone has their priorities askew. Treat others with respect. Play with class. Win or lose with class. Act like you've been there before. The life lessons in the formative years last a lifetime. Turn great athletes into great citizens, but it's hard to be a positive influence when you condone disrespectful behavior. And todays society wonder why the jails are beyond capacity. Go figure.
 4. Matt Burnett would be a good hire. A fine coach and really good guy. If he could find a good OC and DC he could do some damage. A mans job is none of my business but would be good for Crosby.

Lost to Bay City 7-0 in the Astrodome in the state quarterfinals after getting stuffed at the one yard line as time expired. I still believe our receiver got the Td on the play before but we will never know. The sad part is that we dominated that game stat wise. We were on there side of the field a ton and couldnt come away with points. Bay City went on to blow out the remaining two teams to win the state title if i remember correctly.
Bay City had about 107 total yards.....They went on to win the State Championship, this is one that slipped through our fingers.
If I remember correctly Bay City ran 4 plays on our side of the field the entire game , they just happened to get a TD on a bootleg pass and we spent all night on their end of the field only to come up short, they also had a heck of a defense, but I agree that was our best chance for a state championship.
Bay City capitalized on a turnover on or about our 20yd line.....This loss broke my heart.
This without a doubt was our best chance at a state title. Joe Ramoin was the running back and caught a swing pass out of the backfield. As he turned to the end zone he slipped and his knee touched when the ball was at the half yard line. I watched the replay many times and sadly he truly was down. We had time for one more play in regulation. The call was 30 base. The bay city linebackers were stacked in the middle. One jumped the snap, leaped over the center and blew up the play in the backfield. An off tackle play would have scored. Had we gotten to OT we had a huge advantage at kicker. And yes bay city blew out the next two opponents for the title. I've replayed that final series in my mind many times. If recall is correct we had two td's called back in that game on penalties. That game was truly the big one that got away.
 6. Great game and great year. We came up a little short against a team with D1 talent, size, and speed at lots of positions. Our senior leaders have been outstanding. Underclassmen have gotten lots of experience this year. All the "experts" expected a blowout in Dawsons favor. They got out of the game with a close win and big scare. Our community as a whole is very proud of you guys. You gave us six more wins this year than last and are in the position to reload and go next year. Hard work in the off season will always pay off. Thanks from the fans!

It was free and at a high fence ranch ($7500 a gun for a weekend) but I had that feelin that I would see a 3rd round game. My meat is being processed as we speak so I had a win / win weekend.  ;D ;D ;D First game I have missed in 5 yrs  ;)
Shooting deer in a cage, yep, that's hunting...... I love me some venison, but ain't no deer meat worth $7,500
I agree hence "FREE"  and it was on a leash  ;D ;D ;D  The open bar sure is nice too  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I hunt on the back of my 5 acres and have a few pretty nice deer.  If you would like you can check the pics out here..... [Hidden Content]
Bird you are a fortunate man. You get to ease out back to hunt and then go see that great Tatum football. My aunt has a nice place in Timpson. I love that country. I lease a good chunk of land next to her place. It has some whopper deer but when I'm up there I have to listen to Nederland games over the computer. It's just not the same as seeing it. Good luck in both these wonderful sports!

Shoot, at this point I'm trying to decide whether my JOB is more important than hs football!!
You and I are in the same boat!!
too funny LOL , but I'm thinking, DUH! You ask this question on a football forum.
I know huh. It seemed like a good idea at the time but so did the teacher thread we got locked from our south of the border humor. I haven't checked this thread in 36 ounces or so but it looks like football is leading in the poll by a three to one margin. All is right in the world. I submit to the other voters.
 9. Yeah I'm sitting here unharassed because the warden is spending Thanksgiving with my outlaws up north in kentucky. That gives me time to think about things :). I've missed a lot of good deer hunting on account of football and vice-versa. Sooner or later one of those pretty smart scientist guys are going to invent a way to make horn implants for deer. Any deer you shoot can be sent to a vet (post-mortem would be best) and have his horns blown up as big as you want them. This just stands to reason because some of the things men love most have become just that easy.(All this thinking was enhanced by the thread about the teacher and a few holiday libations.) That won't ever replace football and will make it easier for us to see more games. And you'll only have to shoot one deer. I would still shoot more than one deer but I guess that I would lose the desire to shoot more than I really needed. Similar concerns were a problem when I was young just like all you guys. Nothing can ever replace high school football. You can enjoy that sport once or twice a week till you are at least 110 unlike some things in life. I hope to see lots of you at the game or games this weekend. Those deer won't go anywhere in the next several weeks.
 10. We were being bad on another thread and got it locked with due warning; sorry boys. So what do you think. Playoff football this weekend or deer hunting? I personally wouldn't miss the Dogs game Saturday to shoot Bullwinkle J Moose but I've shot lots of deer. I may not have a chance to see another district 20-4A as strong as this year's in maybe my lifetime. What do the rest of you guys think?
 11. I'd hate to be one of the guys investigating this grade changing matter. They may have their hands full in this case.
 12. I didn't notice the non-grades issues till they were pointed out. I bet a cop with a coat hanger could bare out the truth; the real meat of the matter. My wife is a teacher but she's only 5'2". She has a sweater like that only much smaller :'(
 13. I sadly admit the first thing I noticed was how tall she is  :(.
 14. Vidor will pound away and eat clock just as they have all year. Speed doesn't matter much between the tackles. This is the third round. No cupcakes left. All of the speed in the world won't help if you can't put it on the field. If Angleton can stop Vidor's ball control offense that would be a first this year. Turnovers are Angletons only shot at advancing. BTW stack the box and they'll get you over the top. They can throw the ball. Just don't have to very often.

I know-everyone is innocent till proven guilty. What has happened to discipline and common sense. Something this violent should be a no brainer to school administrators. I suppose that if these punks are proven guilty MAYBE the state equal to our UIL could strip their title but that will not help the teams they defeated to get there. Truly bad stuff.
It shouldnt help the teams that got defeated.. Thats not the point. Eligibility/performance enhancing is one thing, but a criminal act that doesnt improve performance on the field is another. I hate to be the devils advocate here but if there has been no trial and no conviction, then these kids are still innocent. What happened to the Duke lacrosse team was a tradgedy.
True. Gonna be a bad deal however it is handled. My wife is a school administrator. There are many things that happen on and off campus. School districts have lawyers.  schools handle these things through stringent legal parameters. She doesnt talk about these proceedings. Unethical and probably illegal. I dont know. Maybe its different on collegiate levels. I do know there are penalties to students for bullying but Im not well informed on these things. In the days of my youth it was different.

 17. I may be dead wrong but it seems we play up or down to the opposition at times. I believe Dawson will force us to play our best game. We ve surely been challenged by some good teams Vidor PN G Ozen BH Stratford WO-S Liv and others. We came out of those with a W cept BH and probably should have won it in reg time but uh-oh. We ve played 7 games vs playoff teams and are still 11-1. woulda been 8 if Liv was in a weaker district. I believe most of those teams could give nearly any 4A team a good game. I honestly believe the offense will pick it up and hit another gear. The defense is reeeaaallly good. I think we shock people and win another close one. If we get a dose of continuity on offense with focus and game plan it will be a game for the ages. We ain t scairt of Dawson but surely do respect them. GO DOGS. You re the best we ve had in a decade! I ll betcha Dawson is a little nervous and doin lots of homework. They also know three of the teams we squeaked by are in the third round of the playoffs.
Naw, really we love each other. BH really loves Crosby for getting rid of Flanigan so that the Eagles and Broncos can fight things out between each other. We will have the twins though.
Bottom line...BH can't hang and 20-4A Reigns Supreme!
I don't know about that....  When's the last time 20-4A won the region?  1999?  If so, that's 12 year!  Doesn't seen to superior! 19. I think it's a good play between th 20's. I just don't like em deep in the red zone cause the defense is in your face and leaves little room to be successful here in Ned. Course the play design does have an effect. I like the one where the receiver is in motion toward the formation. It's not as scary; I think a db has a much tougher time jumping that design. JMHO

 22.
congrats to nederland, well played game, you came up with a few good plays in ot...   super proud of stratfords efforts, they played their hearts out,and when the starting qb and leading reciever both went down with fluke injuries early in game, they circled the wagons, and the d stepped up, team just came up a little short.......good luck in next round, enjoy the ride.......
You guys have a good program and gave Nederland all we could handle. The difference in the game was a nice pass in ot and a defensive series. Hope the injuries aren't serious and quick recoveries. Had those not occured the outcome could easily have been different. Best of luck.
