1. I've never understood going with 4 teams on the first crack at the playoff. I think the right number is 16, but 8 would be a lot better than this and I don't know why they didn't go with that to begin with.
 2. Ryan Fitzpatrick makes too many mistakes and Romo's have been limited by an emphasis on the run game. The Cowboys' underrated defense will shine again as Murray and Company use ball control to shorten the game and keep the defense fresh.. I'll take Dallas 27-17.
 3. I'm a huge Husker fan too and I think this is a make or break season for Bo. He seems very high on the defense and it better be good because I have a feeling that the offense will drop off some. I'm thinking he's right and 10 wins is doable.
 4. No love for Jasper in these rankings when compared to most polls I've seen. It's good to fly under the radar. Go Dawgs!!!
 5. Why is there such confidence that Jasper will run away with this one? I know expectations are really high for the Bulldogs, but is Liberty as bad as the predictions say they are?
 6. Jasper is hands down the best program in the area not to win state. The Bulldogs had several teams during the Walkoviak era that were among the top 10 in 4A at some point during the season that never advanced past the quarterfinals as well as the teams of the early 2000's that went even deeper. They've won state in track and baseball, though...
 7.
Coach Barbay will have a 2nd year at Jasper under his belt, the qb will be a senior, and we get some other key personnel back. My expectations are winning district (it's time to beat Carthage) and getting to the regional finals.
I'd be good with that, too. I think the offense should be just fine, but I'd like to see the defense improve so that we can stay in tough games when the offense has an off night. We got blown out twice (Carthage, Navasota) and with more consistency, that won't happen against the better teams on our schedule.
 8. WO-S 10, Navasota 9. The Rattlers will meet their match in this defensive struggle and it could really go either way. I'm going with our archrivals to the south, though. Good luck to both teams and may the winner take the whole thing...
 9.

Grinnell's been at this for years. They're like the old Paul Westhead Loyola Marymount teams, but much more explosive. I could go out tomorrow and shoot alone for an hour and have a hard time scoring half of that. I saw the story and he took 108 shots, 71 of which were threes. He jacked it up every time he touched it. It's an incredible accomplishment nonetheless. BTW- A kid on the OTHER team scored 70.
reminds me of the Marble Falls vs Boerne Champion football game, Marble Falls QB breaks the record but BC's QB sets one as well with no recognition lol
Nobody ever remembers who lost. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how soemone can get that many shots up in a 40-minute game...

But, our weakness is still in the secondary. So, Navasota will be successful if we are unable to get pressure on the quarterback. On the offensive side, Navasota can stop our offense if they can stop the run. Our passing game is average and totally feeds off our ability to run. We'll have to play a near perfect game. My prediction is a Navasota win via blow-out OR a very close Jasper win. Go Dogs!
Good analysis. More often than not, athleticism and size win games in high school. If Jasper is going to win, it will be because of coaching and execution. It's gotta show up early, too. We're not built for comebacks.
Yep, Jasper vs. Burnet in 2002 comes to mind. Jasper was the overwhelming favorite because we were hands down more athletic and had D-1 level size all over the field. But, we were totally out-coached and out-executed in that game early on. By time we caught on, Burnet was up 21 points and we never recovered. That has to be the most heartbreaking loss in Jasper history - we were the favorite to face Everman in state that year after dropping down from 4A.
Also guys that next year we played burnet and they were the favorite and would almost had that game till the last minutes of that game. That game plan work pretty good working the play clock down to the last sec. keeping the ball out of there hands.
The 2003 game was the one I thought about that compares with this one. We'll have to do a lot of that same thing (ball control) and disguise what we're doing on defense. They have an all-state caliber QB, so it's gonna be a challenge to force mistakes.
Jasper won 40-22 but up 32-22 with 30 seconds left in 4th and on the 5yard line they decide to punch it in for one more score with 23 seconds left.
And then we went for two. That's classy, right? Actually, I hate when coaches do that crap.
 17. Thanks, guys. Falcon's right. Where does LoneStar get its data? Most of Jasper's stuff is correct, but there were a lot of errors when they moved it from whatever database it came from.
 18.
stupid princeton offense dont work in the pros, mike brown will be fired by January.
It's funny that you say that because I could have sworn that they fired him a few months ago. They'll regret that crappy bench that they have, too.
 19. I don't think I've ever seen a player become the undisputed leader of a team in two days. He played very well last night, but he also made everyone else better with him. Lin didn't try to do too much and Asik was a presence in the middle against a team that has two good big men. It was good to see....
 20. Are there any websites that have accurate histories and rankings? I would like to get as much of Jasper's data as I can find and it seems that most of the sites that had it no longer exist. Thanks...
 21.
Call me old school, but I would rather see it go back to just the district champion making the playoffs than have a situation where 4 of 5 teams in a district will qualify for playoffs. Heck, there are a couple of district where all 4 teams will advance. You could actually have an 0-10 team make the playoffs!!! Since the UIL has made their decision to have 4 teams, then they should make every district at minimum 7-8 team districts. Also, to give some incentive on winning district games and winning district championships, they should allow the #1 seeds in DI and DII from each district host their 1st round games.
Agreed. If I had a time machine, I'd just go back to the old 9-4a district and add WOS to it.
