  1. I was just on another prominent message board that covers East Texas football and while they easily nominated Carthage @ Jasper as the game of the week, a poster suggested that Jasper was lucky to be coming into the game at 6-1 and got to this point because of an easy schedule. Most people in that area think that Carthage will win easily while most of us on this board think it will be a close game that either team could win. As a Bulldog, I would love to see Jasper win...but I don't know enough about Carthage's Bulldogs to speculate on what will happen. How good are they?
  2. Prediction: Jasper 2133654 Huntington 0 At halftime... ;D Really though...Jasper 31-7. Hopefully we can get the offense going a little before Carthage rolls into town.
  3. I'm not a fan of the spread in general, but it's a good idea to have a few plays to run from it when you're playing catch-up. The triple-option isn't conducive to coming from behind at all.
  4. This prediction of the final score was very close. : Yeah....someone had spiked red kool-aid to come up with that one. Like a lot of Jasper fans, I thought it'd be a close game and it definitely could have gone Silsbee's way. You guys have a good team. They just need to learn how to win. That's something that Jasper's still learning. I don't think any of us expected to come into district play at 4-1.
  5. This one was tough to listen to. We didn't play well at all in the second half, but still gutted it out. Huge win for the Dawgs...
  6. I wholeheartedly agree. I don't know where in the heck some of these outlandish predictions come from. 48-0? Come on? There's no way that it's a 48-0 game. It'll be decided by 7 or less. Throw the records out. JB94, some folks just aren't too intelligent. : Or they are doing their best bait job.
  7. If you throw the Gilmer game out, then you have to throw the Hamshire-Fannett game out. As good as Gilmer is, HF is equally as bad. HF will not win a game this year. I thought about that when I wrote that message. Good point...
  8. Throw the Gilmer game out, which seems like the exception for the Dogs rather than the rule, and you get 124 pf and 48 pa...which is roughly 41-16 per game. Two of those three were against ranked opponents, so that's pretty impressive.
  9. be nice. wasn't long ago the dogs were down and getting kicked around. Exactly. We're not in any position to get cocky.
  10. That '82 team was something else. Why couldn't Thurman Thomas forget his helmet the night he personally knocked us out of the '82 playoffs? ;D
  11. South Park was way before I was in high school, but I remember us taking it to them every year until they closed the school. Lumberton and Cleveland took it worse from the teams I was around (Ben Bronson, Terence Davis, etc...) than anybody else we played.
  12. Might be. I remember loving games like this when I was a kid, usually against Lumberton and South Park, but now I kinda feel bad for the H-F kids. Who knows what the score will end up being....
  13. In a shocking turn of events, Jasper still leads 56-0 at the half...
  14. Very reminiscent of the 82-0 Cleveland game in 1989. For H-F's sake, I hope it's not that bad...
  15. yaaaa.. they do but our offence needs to stay in longer, and control the clock... and that keeps the other team off the field... which means they cant score... defence is doing amazing right now.. we just got to start clickin every where else.. and then we can shut ppl out Shutouts are impressive, but not that important. We need to be consistent on both sides of the ball and then the score will take care of itself. It's not about style points. Just win.
  16. Agreed. With the way people come and go nowadays, that's a lot to ask...
  17. There just aren't really that many Jasper fans on the board to begin with. I'm not there and haven't been in years, but it would be cool for some of you that are to spread the word. If you do, please get fans that can be objective and actually know what they're talking about. I get tired of the ones that have no common sense that either disrespect opponents or make predictions after three games of a state title run when we should be thinking about the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns.
  18. I like seeing coach Beckham at the middle school games arguing with the officals and coaching kids up...back in the day we almost never lost a middle school game. That's what I remember, too. There were coaches at JMS (Brack, Willoughby, etc.) that knew exactly what was done at the varsity level and did a great job coaching the kids to run the same thing. By the time they got to high school, they were in better shape than other kids and used to winning football games. Granted, it never translated to state titles even though we played some great football, but Jasper's tradition was built on those days and how things were done.
  19. My buddy j_dog pretty much nailed it. When Jasper's program was at its best, every level from 7th grade all the way up was very deep and could mop the floor with 75% of the schedule. We need to get back to that level before we can expect to be an elite team that can go deep into the playoffs every year. We'll learn more every week, but there's a long way to go...
  20. Please tell me that you're not satisfied yet. This is a great start and I assure you that everyone in that fieldhouse would be very disappointed if they had a meltdown and lost every game from here on out. It's way too early to classify this season as anything, but it's as satisfying a three-game start as I can remember in a long time. The Dawgs have made great improvement, but there's a LONG way to go.
  21. Jasper plays @ H-F this week. The way teams have snuck up on each other this year, this is no time for Jasper to rest on its laurels. I know H-F has struggled so far, but Jasper has been known to show up flat after big wins over the years.
